Zophiel grinned sheepishly, and once more felt the urge to show off. With the surplus power he received from her, he did just that. He zapped the stain right out of his shirt after checking to make sure no one was looking besides her.
"I'm glad you took my offer." Zophiel grinned, "We could seal it with a kiss, but I think that'd be a little awkward." he winked, trying to make sure he made his point. He was only joking after all. Though he wouldn't refuse if she did wish to kiss him. He was only human, after all... so to speak.
"So, how should we go about this? Maybe we should starting meeting up once or twice a week? Or you could just call me when you need me. It's entirely up to you. I'm not all that social so... I'm usually pretty free unless I'm at work. Even then... I'm a manager, if I need to take a long lunch, I can."
Zophiel took another bite of food, but realized if he didn't tell Aubrie now about his ulterior motive, she might find out later and that wouldn't be good for anyone. He nodded to the waitress for a refill, and then sighed, contemplating for another moment before speaking.
"I'm afraid I'm not being completely unselfish in helping you. I wanted to wait until you agreed to tell you this... I didn't want to scare you off, making you think I only wanted to use you."
He had to pause as the waitress came back with his drink, waiting for her to be out of ear shot again before continuing, "You see... Over time I've been becoming weaker and weaker... It wasn't too noticeable at first, but these days I can barely exorcise a spirit or even teleport without getting winded. The energy you gave me today... that I siphoned off... Hell, I feel like I could take on Michael. That's crazy, I know but... I haven't felt this good in years. Centuries..."

Aubrie listened to Zophiel's confession, nodding silently.
She considered what it was he was telling her, that in fact through helping her he'd be replacing some of the energy that he's been losing over the years. It didn't bother her, really, since if her overflow didn't go to him, it would just be violently discharged and wasted. Besides, if he'd really had ulterior motives, he wouldn't have made this confession to her at all, though she wasn't sure how she felt about him waiting until the last minute.
Still, it did seem like a pretty convenient arrangement, at least for now.
Once Aubrie started working again--if she did, anyway--she wouldn't have quite as much energy to spare, and she wouldn't be so hyper-sensitive to everything. Of course, even when working there were times when her powers got the better of her, and knowing that there was a way to siphon them off to Zophiel meant she wouldn't have to be so worked up all the time...
"I'm glad you told me," Aubrie said to the angel honestly. "If I would've gleaned some hint of your intentions from your thoughts, I would definitely have believed you were just using me for your own devices."
Watching him for some time, she finally went on.
"And I think that meeting once a week should be good, for now. And... I can call you if I need anything more often than that?"

Zophiel nodded as he munched down on his last few remaining french fries. That was exactly why he had told Aubrie about his motives. He didn't want her to figure it out later and get the wrong impression. That wouldn't end well, especially if this demon did care at all for Aubrie.
The rogue angel had now eaten every single crumb off his plate and looked up to Aubrie. He liked the idea of meeting up, but that led to another small problem.
"Good, once a week... thing is, we need to do this somewhere private, and... well, I'm not so sure we should do this around... your demon friend. It'll be tense for me and her and since this whole thing is about your powers, we need to be able to be in a relaxing environment. I don't care where we meet, I'm just suggesting we meet alone. You know how our... people... don't get along well with her kind."
Zophiel hated to sound like a bigot, but when it came to demons, he had to be. He had been on earth a long time and never in that time had he ever once met a demon that anyone could trust.
Zophiel glanced around. It was pretty damn late. He was tired, even with the energy he just siphoned off Aubrie, so she must have been tired too. Perhaps it was time to call it a night?

Aubrie nodded, understanding what Zoph was saying.
She really wasn’t sure how Nik would act around an angel. From what Aubrie could gather, she hadn’t been a demon for a very long time, all things considered, and she did seem more human than demon for the most part. Still, better safe than sorry, she figured. And it seemed to her that Zophiel would be more comfortable without Nikita around as well.
“Alright, we can meet in private,” she told him, nodding again. “We can just set up a place when I call you, if that’s alright. I mean, that way we don’t have to meet at the same place all the time, you know?” She shrugged, supposing it didn’t really matter in the long run, so long as they were able to get together and work on her control.
“Well, it’s getting late,” Aubrie said as she stood up. “I don’t know if Nik will be home or not, but she’ll worry if I’m out too late without her. With Darian still out there and all…” She let her voice trail off, shivering a bit at the memory of the vampire who had nearly killed her. Finally, she spoke again, saying, “So… I guess I’ll call you then, next week?”

Zophiel was glad that she accepted, and nodded to her terms. He still didn't know how he felt about this demon/human relationship, but it wasn't really his place.
The angel leaned on the table and gave the girl a reassuring smile.
"I'm glad we've come to an agreement." he slid a piece of paper over, "Here's my number when you're ready to call me."
After that, the angel put some cash on the table to pay for the bill, then with a grin and a wink, the angel vanished from sight, as if he was never there to begin with.
At his small apartment, the angel sighed and rubbed his face, wondering just what he had gotten himself into.

Aubrie blinked when Zophiel vanished.
She smiled a bit and picked up the paper with his number written on it, slipping it into her purse and looking around to see if anyone had noticed her companion's strange means of departure. It seemed the other people in the restaurant, though, were all lost in their own concerns and conversations, so the angel's vanishing act didn't attract any undue attention.
So, content that she'd be able to slip out without being asked a dozen uncomfortable questions, Aubrie shouldered her purse and got up, heading for the door and stepping outside into the cool night air. Closing her eyes, she breathed in the scent of the flowers outside the restaurant, and the soothing evening breeze.
As she headed for her car, Aubrie felt at ease for the first time in a long, long time.
((Finished))
