set em up to knock em down
Another Saturday night. Where the hell had the week gone?
It was amazing how quick time could fly when you were rotating between getting your ass kicked and kicking some ass. The bad guys just never seemed to pay attention to nine to five hours and you busted your ass all week long with odd hours and even odder projects.
By the time the weekend rolled around, Chloe was more than ready to relax at bit and have a few uncomplicated drinks. Ok, maybe more than a few but that was to be expected when your body sported more bruises than a cheetah had spots. It was a hazard of the job but that didn't ever make it easier and it wasn't any wonder more than a few of the old timers were alcoholic.
After all, the whiskey helped dull the pain and it was better than all the questions a doctor would ask before prescribing pain meds. As a hunter, questions weren't something any of them looked forward to and avoided at all costs. Instead, she took her comfort in a brown bottle or a pint of medicinal liquor. Better know as Jack, Jim and Jose. A girls three best male friends.
That thought in mind, Chloe Reynolds showered up, dressed up and headed out on the town. Thankfully, there was a decent bar down the road from her hotel room so she didn't have to go far before finding good atmosphere and rockin music.
Feeling quite at home the moment she walked through the door, she let a grin spread over her lips and headed for the front counter. For a Saturday night, the place was buzzing but it didn't take long to order a drink and then head to the pool table area to see if there were any good games going. As much as she loved a good race in her car, a good pool game came in a close second. That is, as long as she was winning money while playing.
Finding an empty table on the edge of the pool area, Chloe made herself comfortable and settled back to watch. After a few minutes, she smirked and got up to lay her money down on the edge.
"Ya'll mind if a lady tries her hand?" she asked sweetly.

Driving along in his rusted old 1990 Ford F-150, Nate's eyes caught sight of the the large illuminated sign that read 'Bar'. That was all it took to get the werewolf hunter spinning the steering wheel toward the parking lot for an alcohol filled good time. Putting the truck in park, he gazed up at the rear view mirror to see a bloody face starring back at him. "Fucking hell..." He muttered while beginning to search in the backseat for a clean towel. Lets just say his recent hunting job got a bit messy.
Being a bachelor male, naturally the inside of his vehicle was a complete nightmare. Empty beverage cans and papers littered the floor. He realized it was going to be near impossible to find anything actually clean so he settled for a wrinkled shirt to wipe the blood from his face and hands.
After he was finished making himself at least somewhat presentable to the public, he swung open the door to his truck and stepped down. It was finally time to get his drink on and it was way overdue. He closed his door and then causally strolled towards the Bar's entrance. A few big biker guys stood outside smoking and Nate passed them giving a friendly nod of his head. Surprisingly, he wasn't looking to start any trouble this night. All he wanted was to have some drinks and let his sore muscles relax. Although, that could all very well change if he was to start drinking too much.
Pushing through the front door, Nate came to a stop just inside. Blue eyes scanned the crowd and took note of the two other exits just in case he ended up needing to make a quick escape. He smoothly maneuvered himself to the bar and rested his arms on the counter. "Hey, one shot of Jack Daniels and keep them coming man." He said to the bartender with a smile.
While the man set-up a row of shots Nate turned his back to him and looked around. His eyes were drawn over to the pool tables where he saw a beautiful brunette standing. She wasn't the only woman in the bar but she was definitely the prettiest. He turned back to the bar and started downing the row of shot glasses one by one. When Nathan was finished he flagged down the bartender again. "Give that lovely woman over there as many drinks as she wants, just add it my tab." He said with a smirk.

set em up to knock em down
It was always good to waste a few hours on unimportant nonsense. Playing pool was distracting as well as rewarding when bets were on the table and Chloe had always had a competitive streak a mile wide. There was nothing she liked more than proving she was damned good at something and this evening was no different. As another ball sank in the right hand corner pocket and she stood up to grin at her opponent, she gave him a wink and picked up the money laying on the side rail. Thankfully, her new "friends" took it all good naturedly and she was able to hand over the table gracefully with a laugh.
"Nah.. you boys go ahead and play awhile. I'll take another round here in a bit. I think I wanna just sit and watch for a few..." she was saying just as a waitress approached and whispered something in her ear.
Arching a brow, she glanced down at the shot on the tray and then to the bar where a line of men sat drinking. While being bought a drink was nothing new, she was selective about who she allowed to buy them for her. When her gaze landed on a scruffy, tousled haired man looking in her direction, she gave him a good looking over and then grinned. Picking up the shot glass off the tray, she raised it to him in a salute and then tossed it back before setting the tumbler down and looking at the waitress.
"I'd tell you to thank him for me but ... I think I'll do that myself." she drawled out, pivoting carefully to meet the mans eyes. "From the looks of him... This might actually be interesting."
Swaying jean clad hips, she sauntered through the crowd and headed back for the bar. Her keen gaze took in every detail of his person and there was an edge to the way he held himself that spoke volumes, at least to her. She'd seen it in the mirror a time or two herself. It was the bearing of a person who was never completely relaxed and kept themselves on constant alert.
Oh yeah, this was going to be interesting.
Reaching a span of empty space a foot or so away from the man, Chloe leaned on the bar and then looked at the bartender. Ordering a Jack on the rocks, she eyed the shot glasses and then turned to face the crowd. From the corner of her eye, she watched him and then grinned.
"So..... You gotta a name or should I just call you Jack since you seem to like the stuff?" she fired out, turning her gaze back to him finally. "As much as I enjoyed the whiskey... I don't normally let a guy by me drinks until we are at least on a first name basis. Never know what kind of psychos there might be lurking about."
Nodding to the bartender as he slide her drink to her, she continued.
"I'll even start... Hows that? My names Chloe....."

Four shots of Jack down and Nathan was starting to feel pretty damn good. Those stiff sore muscles that were aching earlier were suddenly without much pain. With a roll of his shoulder the werewolf hunters expression softened to a content smile. He was starting to feel loose and relaxed, just like he had hoped for, but he still kept that awareness about him. It would take many more shots to get this experienced drinker feeling truly buzzed.
Nate leaned his back against the bar while his blue eyes watched the pretty brunette finish her game of pool. He could see what game the woman was really playing, using her stunning looks with a hint of innocence to get herself into a game. She's just a girl after all, how well can she really play pool? No doubt the men would be foolishly thinking that. Then she just simply sets em' up to knock them down. She wins the cash and gets some laughs. Nate had to give her credit, and respect, for knowing how to work the system.
Just as the waitress was making her way to the dark eyed beauty, Nate's attention was derailed by the drunken older man beside him who had suddenly put an arm around his shoulders. "She ain't gonna take no drinks from you, son. Just LOOK at her!" He yelled into his ear. Nate simply smirked in response while returning the drink salute to her. "Judging by the way she downed that shot glass, I'm not too concerned at the moment." He said with a laugh before removing the smelly drunks arm from across his shoulder and standing straight. Nathan closely watched as the woman sauntered over, taking in all the details; the way her long hair gently swayed with the movement of her hips and how every piece of fabric framed the curves of her body. It was a sight for sore eyes. As she leaned against the bar's counter-top his gaze immediately drifted down her frame until he was starring at how wonderfully she filled in the back of those jeans. "Hot damn..." He muttered softly in practically a daze. Then she spoke with that saucy voice and it was like Nate was snapped back into reality. She was a feisty one, that much was obvious just by looking at her. He found himself enjoying the company of those types of women most though, they keep things interesting. The only downside being when he either, a) breaks their heart or b) makes an asshole out of himself, then he gets the short end of the stick. Well to be more exact the stick is used to beat him senseless. "Chloe, it's a pleasure to meet you love. You can call me Nathan, or Nate, which one don't really matter to me. There, first name basis established, now lets have some more drinks." He smirked before turning to find another row of whiskey lined up in front of him. In one swift motion the werewolf downed three more shots of Jack without hardly a flinch. "Oh yeah.." He turned to look at Chloe with a grin. "Regarding the whole 'Psycho' thing... I have a feeling you can handle yourself; but don't worry your pretty head, that is what my medication is for." Nate playfully explained with a wink.[/blockquote]

So he fancied himself a comedian, did he? Chloe couldn't help the burst of laughter that exploded from her throat as she shook her head. With her long, dark hair dancing around her, she watched him down the liquor before grabbing one for herself and tilting it bottoms up. The burn was warm and familiar down the back of her throat and she savored it before setting the tumbler back down. A grin played about her lips as she moved in closer to get out of the path of another drunken rambler.
"A gentleman after my own heart, i see. At least, with the whiskey, that is."
Picking up her own glass, she relaxed a little bit more as she eyed him over the rim. He definitely wasn't the sort that normally caught her eye but there was something about him that drew her. Probably the fact that he had enough confidence to carry off a devil may care attitude and made no apologies for his bold behavior. Everything he said or did seemed genuine and that was a big appeal to Chloe. She'd always been one for the bad boys, all right.
Letting her gaze travel over him in a circumspect manner, the young huntress tilted her head and arched a brow. When she spoke, it was in a light, teasing tone.
"Oh, I assure you... I'm more than capable of handling myself but... Whats the fun in that?"she teased, giving him a wink as she took a sip of her drink. "Should I be worried that men in white suits might storm the door any moment? If they start waving around those snazzy jackets, do you want me to kick their asses? I hear those happy drugs are something else but the fashion statement those aides and nurses make.... Seriously, you'd think they could at least update their uniforms or something."
Taking another drink, she gazed at him with her dark eyes twinkling merrily.
"So, Nate..... Besides take drugs, what is it that you do with your time? Forgive me but you don't seem like the others in here. Something tells me that you might have a very interesting story."
Tossing a lock of hair behind her shoulder, she waited for his reply even as she took in his build and posture. He looked like a man use to working with his hands and he didn't have the air of someone who sat in an office all day. Leaning closer, she drew in his scent as best as she could and caught the faintest trail of... what? Woods?
Shrugging inwardly, she was just about to continue on in her perusal with a fleck of something dark red at the base of his neck caught her eyes. Instantly, her gaze narrowed and she barely resisted a frown. Was that blood? Shifting her gaze back to his face, she eyed him even more keenly.
Oh Yeah... The night just got much, MUCH more interesting.

A smile spread across Nate's lips when the dark haired beauty let out a explosion of laughter. Was it possible? Someone who actually liked his somewhat twisted humor? Apparently it was and he was feeling damn good about entertaining such a pretty little thing. It was a refreshing sight, to see a woman that could actually handle liquor. Nate was thankful she was not one of the those spoiled barbie dolls sippin' on soft fruity shit.
'What's my count up to now?' He began to question in his head. Nate was starting to feel the effects of the whiskey, but not nearly enough to hinder his judgement, just his movement a bit. Resting his elbow on the bar's counter, he focused his attention back on Chloe just as she spoke. For a moment Nate was silent as he tried to get past actually being called a gentleman. Then again, he was being much nicer to the lady than usual so naturally she would get that impression. There was something about her though. Something calming and trustworthy... or perhaps that was the booze.
"And a woman after mine." He finally commented while gazing into her dark eyes which peeked over the rim. Taking note of her sudden look of distraction, Nate couldn't help but wonder what Chloe was thinking. She seemed to be checking him over, causing his body to flinch ever so slightly with uneasiness. Feeling like he could trust her and actually being able to were two very different things, which was something he had to keep in mind.
Then that inevitable question popped its ugly head. "What do I do with my time..." Mental images of werewolves, blood, and killing began to clutter his mind as he repeated the question. Raising his free hand, Nate clutched the large scar on his neck while shifting his blue eyes away. The hand around his empty shot glass tensed before he took in a deep breath. It was pretty damn obvious that it wasn't an easy topic for Nate to discuss.
Regaining his composure, Nate looked back over at Chloe. "I hunt... bad people... animals. There is a story behind it but it's long and boring." That had to be up there with one of the biggest lies he had ever told, and with that he quickly changed the subject. "What about you, huh? Let's hear your story." Leaning forward, he closed the space between them while dashing a small charming smile.

set em up to knock em down
Well, well... What do you know. Looked like it was a very small world after all. If what he was saying was true, that is. However, she didn't see any reason for him to lie about it and since she was in the same line of work herself.... She understood just where he was coming from and what it was his words weren't saying.
"Is that right? Thats very interesting... Since I just happen to be of the same employment." she returned, leaning one elbow on the bar and positioning her body with one hip cocked and facing him. "So.. what are you? Fed? Local? State? Or private? From the look of you... I'm guessing either undercover brother or private. Unless your some sort of game warden and then all bets are off."
Raising her glass to her lips again, she observed him calmly and didn't let her eyes stray to his throat. The scar that stood out there was one that many a hunter might carry but what exactly it was from was still up for debate. If he was truly a hunter then the blood could be explained too. She was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for the moment.
Chloe was, after all, an equal opportunity sort of girl. Until proven otherwise, that was. If things went south..Well, there as always the glock tucked in the small of her back, not to mention the blade in her boot. Her own private arsenal. She never left home without it.
"As far as stories.... Well, I'll show you mine if you show me yours. I never was one to spill all my secrets at the first meeting." she teased, amusement dancing in her dark eyes. "Course, that would require a much more... personal.. relationship and .. I dunno..... You might not be able to handle it."
Winking to show she was kidding, the dark haired huntress downed the rest of her drink and then eyed his bottle. It was already half gone and that amount of alcohol would knock most people on their asses. Either he was a man used to holding his liquor or he was going to be passed out in his vehicle or hotel room before the night was through. Hopefully, it was the former instead of the latter. Now that her interest was peeked, it would be a damned shame for it all to go to waste.
"I'm just in town working on a case... or finishing up one, you could say. The grave kind, if you catch my drift... " she said, turning serious for a moment as her gaze flickered to the people around them and then frowned. "I just stopped in here for a few drinks to relax... Long day and all that."

What luck, to be drawn right to someone with the same type of bone breaking job. He would have never guessed his night would be spent in the companionship of a fellow hunter, but her words spelled it out quite clear. Thankfully it wasn't one of those dreaded full moon nights that would awaken the beast inside him. For now he was safe pretending that part of him was not even in existence.
"Smart girl... I'm a little of both, undercover and private all rolled into one badass package." He laughed, starting to feel the affects of the alcohol. Nate had consumed far too much of it now to handle any kind of serious conversation. 'Looks like I will be spending another painful night in the truck.' Groaning at the realization he was too broke for a hotel, he took another big gulp of his half empty bottle of whiskey.
Suddenly Nate got an interesting idea. 'Unless...' He turned his attention back onto Chloe with a somewhat devious spark in his blue eyes. All he had to do was get the beautiful huntress to let him crash at her place. Regrettably, he was too drunk for what he really wanted, which was one night of passionate sex with her. It was probably for the best though. He wasn't sure if she was that kind of girl. The type that would be heartbroken when he would be gone in the morning and never call.
Then there was the whole genuinely liking Chloe. Why ruin a good thing? Now all Nathan had to do was give her a reason to invite a strange man, who was on the verge of being totally wasted, to her hotel room. It wouldn't be easy, but he'd been against bigger odds in the past. "Yeah, I catch your drift love. Long day for me as well, putting down a vicious animal and all. I was just passing by in my truck, saw the neon sign." He responded back, slurring his words here and there.
Without warning Nate felt a large hand grip tight around the back of his neck. The unseen force then slammed his head down against the counter-top. "FUCKING HELL! Spilling what was left of his whiskey, he was suddenly spinned around and starring up at a very large and angry man. "You look familiar..." Nate muttered while squinting a bit. Some of the other folks in the bar looked to see what the problem was but for the most part no one gave a damn.
"I know your secret, Berwick!" The large man yelled while tightening his grip around Nathan's neck. Starring coldly, the man pulled him closer. "You are no hunter... werewolf." Though the words came out in an angry whisper, the man made sure Chloe could hear them. [/blockquote]

set em up to knock em down
Awwwwwwwwwwwww Hell. Just when things were going so smoothly, some drunken idiot had to intrude. An idiot who'd obviously had one to many to drink and decided to get stupid. The type of idiot that irritated Chloe to no ends and left her gritting her teeth in order not to bash their nose in.
Having been about to reply to Nate's comment, Chloe felt her brows shoot up when a meaty hand came out of nowhere and slammed into the back of her companions head. When his face met the bar and bounced back, her hand immediately started to reach for the weapon at her back but then paused, thinking better of pulling a gun in front of so many people.
As Nate turned to blink blearily at the redneck, she shifted slightly so that her weight was better balanced and gave the attacker a good look up and down. He was a big boy but she'd taken bigger. He obviously didn't have any qualms about picking on someone smaller than him so why should she feel bad if she gave him a dose of his own medicine? She shouldn't and didn't. If he wanted to dances, she could certainly teach him some new steps.
Watching the man lean into Nate's face and seeing the fuzzy look upon the "hunter's" face, the dark haired beauty knew he was in trouble. He'd obviously had to much to drink and his reflexes were slow because of it. When the attackers works registered in her brain, she paused only momentarily to give her companion another looking over and then shook her head.
Werewolf. Well, that explained the scars at his throat didn't it? The only thing she didn't understand was why people in this day in age automatically seemed to think it was a death sentence.
Sure, being a were wasn't a good thing but there were things like silver cages during full moons and drugs that helped one remain in control in some cases. Chloe wasn't one of those hunters that believed that every supernatural was an evil supernatural and as long as they showed the ability to reason and keep themselves out of trouble?? Well, she'd seen humans that were worse monsters.
Feinging a nonchalance that was completely at odds with the emotion snapping in her eyes, she eyed the hand around Nate's neck and arched a cool brow. "Mister.... Your obviously drunk so I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you aren't completely stupid too. You've got ten seconds to let go of my friend here before you get introduce to a whole new form of trouble." she said just as softly as he'd spoken. "See... Cause I don't like my friends being picked on and you have an unfair advantage. Normally, I'd just step back and let Nate here take care of his own business but since you've deliberately picked a time in which he can't very well do that.... I'd say that makes you the trouble making asshole with piss for brains."
Waiting calmly while those words sank in, Chloe reached for the bottle of Jack and pretended to take a sip from it. As a snarl chased over the mans lips and the words "Stay out of this, Bitch." rang out, she smiled evilly. "And why should I do that? And who the hells going to make me? You? I'd like to see you try, asshat!"
With a roar that resembled that of a furious bear, the redneck let go of Nate and swung around to face her. Having stepped way from the bar with nimble ease, the huntress grinned as she waited for him to make the first move. She didn't have to wait long.
Lunging forward with a speed that belied his size, the fool opened his arms to grab her in a bear hug but got only empty space as she ducked under him and spun around to kick him in the butt. That blow and his own momentum sent him sprawling into a table and it busted into shattered pieces as the combination crashed to the floor. Bellowing like a mad bull, the man flailed around before making it to his feet and glaring at her.
"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU, GIRL!! Best say your prayers."
Rolling her eyes at this comment, Chloe waved at him with the bottle of liqour still in her hand. "Damn!!! I've gone downhill from bitch to girl??? I'm hurt.... As far as killing me... Better men have tried that job, buddy... Better men have tried... A few women too, come to think of it...."
Risking a quick glance over her shoulder at Nathan, Chloe shook her head before hissing. "What are you waiting for, Berwick?? Get the hell outta here would you? I'll meet you outside or... better yet... the hotel down the road."
Hearing movement coming at her, the dark haired beauty whipped around in time to catch a fist to the jaw. Flying backwards into the bar, she swore a blue streak before using the counter to bring both legs up and into the asshats belly as he charged in after her.
"Didn't your mother teach you that its not polite to hit a woman, jerkface? Or were you the one raised by monsters?"
With a solid anchor for leverage, she sent him spinning backwards into the gathered crowd and he went down in a tangle of limbs.
"Damn it... Lets get the HELL out of here!!" she hissed, wiping blood from her mouth and wheeling towards the door.

It was always amazing how a good time could turn bad within a split second. Starring coldly into the man's angry eyes, Nathan recalled how his secret had gotten out. It was the night of a full moon, something Nate had completely forgotten. He was walking to his truck from a monthly werewolf hunter meeting when the painful transformation took place. A fellow hunter, the one who currently had his hand gripped around Nate's neck, watched the whole thing take place. The man also saw Nate kill an innocent civilian that night. She was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Nathan's deep blue eye's shifted over to Chloe. They had a hint of sorrow, the kind a person that hated what they were would have. Now the beautiful huntress knew his dark secret and he questioned what she would do about it. Would she jump on the bandwagon of hate or would she stand up for him? They barely knew each other, it was true, but one could not deny the mutual understanding and connection between them. With a wince, Nate felt the large man's grip tighten. He was in a much too drunken state to defend himself properly, so for the moment he allowed the man to keep the upper hand.
Just then Chloe's firm words were softly spoken. Apparently she had decided to not hold Nate's dark secret against him. It was a first for the werewolf, to have someone in his corner. Momentarily is lips spread into a relieved smile, that was until the word 'Bitch' was directed at the young woman. Nate growled under his breath and was just about to give the other man a piece of his mind, but before he could Chloe responded. Nate couldn't help but let out a burst of laughter at her 'Asshat' comment.
Suddenly the grip around his neck was released as the heavy redneck turned his attention to the dark haired beauty. Nate let out a raspy cough while rubbing the red hand print that was left behind on his neck. He watched in a drunken daze as the huntress sent the man crashing into a nearby table. 'Damn... He muttered out softly in awe of her ability to kick the ass of a man three times her size.
"What are you waiting for, Berwick?? Get the hell outta here would you? I'll meet you outside or... better yet... the hotel down the road. Nathan shook his head as he stood up straight. "Not a chance in hell I'm not leaving you here!" He yelled out in response to Chloe. Stumbling forward, he made a poor attempt to go to her aid as she continued to fight the pissed off redneck. Before Nate had time to regain his balance, the huntress was making a hasty retreat towards the exit and yelling to get out. Using the bar for the support, Nate pushed himself off the counter. It gave hims just enough momentum to go stumbling out the door and into the parking lot outside. Turning to face Chloe, the werewolf hunter noticed that oh so familiar crimson color leaking from the corner of her mouth. With a slow raise of his arm, Nathan placed his hand gently on her cheek with a look of concern. "Are you okay?" He didn't wait for an answer. "What the hell were you thinking?! I had everything under control. That ugly bastard could have seriously hurt you and then I would of had to kill him." It was such a new experience, having someone stand up for him, Nate couldn't bring himself to merely say 'Thank you'.[/blockquote] OOC // Sorry it took so long, I was helping my best friend move \\
