[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] I DON’T THINK I DESERVE IT, SELFLESSNESS What on earth was Axel doing? He should have been long gone and out of Chicago by now right? Of course not. He was actually sitting in his truck making his way back to that stupid little witch shop of a place that he had just dropped her off at. Oh you bet Axel did his homework on the woman. She was a nice girl, didn’t seem to get into any trouble and tried to go out of her way to help others, which was probably a good reason why she had such an easy time getting his cell phone number out of him.
Honestly, Axel shouldn’t even be doing this. He knew the consequences of bringing someone into the life of a hunter, the ending result wasn’t pretty. And right now with Axel’s current rap sheet, he knew that Ellia would not be safe around him. So what the hell was he doing here? Why the hell couldn’t he just forget about her and continue on his somewhat merry life being a hunter and tracking down the damned demon that had killed his mother?
Because Ellia was so much like her…. She was nice, kind, caring, outgoing, clearly didn’t take no for an answer, and was absolutely beautiful. Axel felt a strange tug in his chest whenever he was around her, and he had no idea what the hell that it meant. He knew that he couldn’t have been developing feelings for her, no. It was more of the fact that because this woman reminded him so much of his long dead mother, that Axel felt the strange need to want to protect her. To want to make sure that she got everything that she needed, and that everything in her life went the way that she needed it too.
And being in a witch house certainly was not one of them.
He had parked a little bit down the street from the little shop and sat there in silence with Winry sitting next to him in the passenger seat. He was a hunter by birth and because of that, Axel knew that the right thing for him to do was to go into that shop, remove Ellia, and most likely kill every single witch that had decided to go in there today. Axel wasn’t one of those hunters that hunted those things that were only evil. No he didn’t believe in that. If you were carrying a title other than being human, you didn’t deserve to live. That was how the young hunter saw it, and that’s all that he knew. Of course his mother had tried to teach him differently, that not everything out there that was considered to be evil actually was… but because of the life that Axel had growing up, he didn’t believe that at all. He of course knew that humans could be evil, but nothing could be more evil than the monster of the supernatural.
Personally, Axel viewed himself as someone evil. Yeah, that’s right. He was a terrible person who led a terrible life and did terrible things. Do you think he cares? Of course not. He had nothing to live for anymore. His father had left his mother long before he was born. He had to watch the only person that he was pretty sure was the only person in the world that loved him die right in front of his eyes, and the only other family that he had left was currently possessed by a demon and running around the planet doing the worst things imaginable. After living something like that, and continuingly living in a life where he saw nothing but death and despair, how could you not be evil? Scientists believe that there is a ninety percent chance that children that come out of an abusive home or life, are going to end up just like their parents. Axel was in that ninety percent.
He’s killed people. No, not monsters, people, and he didn’t care. Why should he? A human life was waste less, there was no meaning to it. Nothing at all. And that was the reason why Axel had such an urge to just burst into the shop and kill everyone inside it, and bring Ellia out of there safe and sound…. But it was also because of Ellia that he couldn’t do that. There was something about her that made him feel human.
A feeling that he never had before.
Taking a glance at his faithful companion who sat in the seat next to him with eyes locked on him and her tail wagging, Axel made his decision. He grunted at Winry, and rolled his eyes. “Only because you like her so much…” |
[/b] Winry released a happy noise as she nuzzled in close to her master and licked his face as soon as the engine to the truck roared to life. He pushed his foot against the gas pedal and slowly pushed the truck to the very front of the shop, putting the beast into park, his hand had touched against the horn about to press into it when Winry began to whimper happily, her tail now going a mile a minute. Axel couldn’t help but give the tiniest of smirks, shake his head and press his fingers lightly to the window button, rolling hers down. Instantly the five year old German Sheppard stuck her head out of the window and started barking, calling for Ellia. Her feet pawed against the arm of the door and her tail wagged hard enough to give Axel a homemade fan. Of course, when Winry gets to see Ellia exist the shop, she was going to go crazier, her barks were going to turn into happy yips and whimpers and she was going to try to stick her head out further so that she could get the chance to lick the woman’s face when she was close enough. Ellia wandered absently around the shop. It had been a couple of days since Axel had dropped her off, and she'd spent those days relaxing, having needed it after the couple of months she'd had. So much had happened, and though Lillian and even Brennan had offered to listen if she needed to talk, Ellia couldn't dump her own trivial problems on them, not when they had much more important problems of their own... So, despite the pain she'd been feeling since breaking up with Riley--the first person in years that she'd opened up to and gotten involved with--Ellia kept it all inside and simply went on like she always had, until of course her car had broken down and left her in the lurch. And, until she was able to get the thing towed back here and repaired, Ellia knew she'd just have to get used to sitting around waiting, though it went completely against her nature. That was why when she finally decided to get a hold of Axel to see if he was still in town, she was actually glad to learn that he was. It only took a bit of convincing--and ample usage of her charm--to convince the man to take her out on the town. It wasn't a "date" really, she knew better than that, but getting out and doing something would make her feel better. When she heard the sound of Winry's barking right outside, she smiled and waved hastily at Lillian--who was ringing a customer up at the counter--and headed out to the curb, where Axel's familiar truck was waiting. The dog's head was sticking out the window, and Ellia couldn't help but grin at the sight as she opened the door and good-naturedly shooed the dog out of the seat so she could sit down. "So, what's the plan?" she asked, flashing Axel a bright, excited smile. "You got anything in particular in mind, or am I in charge of this excursion?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] I DON’T THINK I DESERVE IT, SELFLESSNESS The moment that he had seen Ellia exist her place of dwelling, Axel knew that this was a mistake. He shouldn’t be doing this, this went against everything that Axel was as a hunter. He was breaking every single promise that he had ever made to people that he didn’t even know yet, and he had this thing about breaking promises. He was getting involved in someone’s life that he really shouldn’t be. She was going to get hurt, and he wasn’t going to allow himself be the reason as to why she got hurt. Axel wasn’t going to allow someone else to turn out to be like his mother.
There was nothing that he could do right now. Well, he could always start up his truck and leave her there at the walkway of the little witch’s shop, if he really wanted too, but he didn’t. There was a part of him that craved human attention and companionship. Of course he had Winry-Ann, but sadly, she just wasn’t really enough. She was there as his protector in a way, she made sure that he didn’t get himself killed, and because of his lack of smell and sometimes his temperamental left side she’s needed a lot on his hunts. She was faithful to Axel. He loved her like she was his baby, but after awhile you tend to go insane without human contact.
That’s what was going on with him now.
Winry-Ann lapped away at the hands that were offered to her by Ellia before she moved into the back seats of the truck. Winry thoroughly enjoyed Ellia presence in the truck, Axel had no idea if it was because there was another female with them, or if it was just because there was someone else besides her master that could shower her with attention. It was most likely the latter.
Axel had his elbow resting on the door of the truck with his head in his hand. He had glanced at the beautiful woman to his right as she closed the door and started talking, yeah, this was really a bad idea. It was a good thing that after this, he didn’t plan on ever talking to her again. She deserved better than Axel, even as a friend. He didn’t want to drag her into a situation that he was going to regret later… it’s actually rather amazing that Axel even felt regret about something like that, considering all of the things that he had done before and how many humans have actually died in his presence or because of him… or even by him.
He turned the key of the truck swiftly, listening to the roar of the engine as it came to life. Next he pulled the truck into drive, turned on the blinker then looked over his shoulder for oncoming traffic. When it was clearly, Axel pulled into the street and drove off.
“Hn…” |
[/b] He said to her, in the means of telling her that he wasn’t planning on going anywhere, it wasn’t his responsibility to do that. She wanted to see him again, she should have a schedule of the things that they were going to do today. “I don’t know the area. You figure it out.”[/b] It was true, Axel didn’t know what the hell was out there for the two of them to do, all that he really could provide for the day is a one-sided conversation, a lovably puppy, and truck with a driver that has excellent driving skills with a great sense of direction. Then again, he had a feeling that he was going to regret the fact of allowing Ellia to plan out their day and figure out what they were going to do… for all he knew, she was going to drag him out into the public and make him actually talk to other people. Or as Ellia liked to put it “expand his vocabulary.” Axel believed that there was nothing wrong with his vocab… she was just expecting too much out of a man that has avoided human contact in any way his entire life. Ellia smiled brightly, finding Axel's gruffness somehow endearing. As he started the truck and pulled away from the shop, Ellia tapped her chin thoughtfully, wondering what exactly they could do. It'd been a while since she'd been out on the town with someone, as Riley had preferred quiet nights in that tended to not stay very quiet for very long... Ellia shook her head to clear it of those memories. Their break up was still a sore subject for her, a raw wound that's edges had only recently begun to heal. Most of the time she just tried to keep busy and keep her mind off of it--of off him--but sometimes it just didn't work out that way. She blinked, realizing she's fallen into an uncharacteristic, brooding silence. God, I've been spending too much time around hunters..."Um... Well, why don't we go get something to eat, then we can head to the pier? There's a Ferris Wheel, and some rides and stuff," she told him, her smile returning. The pier might be a little cliche and touristy, but that was exactly what she needed right now, some mindless, simple fun. "I think there are fireworks tonight too, actually," she added, glancing at him to gauge his reaction.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] I DON’T THINK I DESERVE IT, SELFLESSNESS As soon as Ellia started talking… he knew that this was a bad idea.
She was too much for him honestly, and everything that she planned on doing with him involved crowds and stranger. Guess what? That was something that Axel would rather avoid like the plague. He wasn’t a people person, and he was sort of hoping after the long car ride with him, Ellia would have gotten that by now.
He exchanged a glance to her, and then rolled his eyes. “Hn.” |
[/b] That was the only response that he was going to give her at the moment. Lucky for him though, Ellia understand what most of his grunting meant. This time, it was more of the disappoint of knowing that he was going to have to deal with people other than Ellia. He had a feeling that he was going to tell him to get over it. It was also a good thing that he knew where everything was now. How did he know that? Well, Axel had photogenic memory, so during most of the night not only was he doing background checks on the people that Ellia happened to be staying with, but he also took the time to drive around the beautiful city of Chicago. Every road that he took and every street sign that he looked at was soaked into his brain like water into a sponge. He didn’t say anything more about the plans for the day, because he knew that no matter what, he was going to have to do what she wanted. Why? Because he had told her that she could anything that came to her mind, and Axel wasn’t about to go back on his word, though… he wasn’t about to let her pay for anything. Why? Ellia had no money, and even though she had made these plans, he was a gentlemen, he was going to pay. While stopped at a red light, he leaned over her lap, opened his glove box. He reached his hand inside and pulled out his wallet and stuffed it into his pocket. Then he rested his arm on the steering wheel, and glanced at her once more. “Hn… you have any idea where you plan on eating?”[/b] Yeah… Axel in the social light of life… this was going to be rather interesting. Ellia could tell that Axel was uncomfortable, though he was doing an admirable job of hiding it. That was alright, honestly. Ellia knew she could be a handful at times, and that combined with Axel's natural reticence was probably pushing the man closer and closer to a total meltdown. It didn't matter to her, though, because she had faith that somewhere inside of Axel, there was a real person, a person who wanted to have friends, and fun, and nice things, even if he was far too stubborn to ever admit it to himself. So the little blonde didn't spend a lot of time dwelling on her companion's discomfort, and instead began thinking about where they should eat. Tapping her chin as she thought about it, Ellia figured she should probably take it easy on Axel, at least a little bit. There was a little cafe in the park that she liked to frequent, especially when she was playing over there to make a few bucks. They could get their food, then find a nice quiet place in the park to eat without having to deal with a lot of noise and a lot of strangers. "Alright, I know where we should eat. We'll head there before going to the pier," she said, turning a bright smile in his direction. "It's not too far from here, and the food is amazing, trust me."After giving Axel directions to the cafe, Ellia shifted the seat to a reclined position, crossed her arms behind her head, and propped her feet up on the dash, humming softly as they wended their way through the traffic of the city. Every so often she'd glance over at Axel, and she eventually couldn't help but chuckle lightly at the expression on his face. "Aw, come on, don't be like that," Ellia told him, grinning. "You should at least try to have a good time, or even just pretend for my sake. It's like they say: 'If you spend enough time pretending to have fun, you just might actually have some on accident.' "Laughing again, she winked at Axel before closing her eyes and letting out a long, content sigh.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] I DON’T THINK I DESERVE IT, SELFLESSNESS There were things that Axel Sastre Maverick didn’t do. And going out and mingling with society was really one of them. As sad as it was to admit, Axel didn’t particularly like people. Mainly because while he was growing up he had learned that it was much better to be alone than to have to constantly leave everyone that you care about, he learned that lesson at a young age because of the life that he was forced to live, because of the life that his mother had given him… and it was all because she was dead set on finding the man that had fathered him.
At the simple thought of his father, Axel gripped the wheel of his truck so tightly that his knuckles turned white. Whenever the guy was mentioned or whenever he danced across his thought Axel wanted to just punch something or go and kill something. He called a lot of daddy hatred and he didn’t give a damn. Being twenty-eight years old, he still found himself acting like a fifteen year old with a dead beat father. Axel always hated his father, but it really didn’t get bad until he had lost his mother and made the discovery that she was trying to find him, and she had been trying for years. Axel was convinced that if he had never found everything that his mother had left behind about his dad, he wouldn’t have as much hatred as he did.
He glanced at Ellia quickly from the corner of his eye and nodded his head. “Then we’ll park.” |
[/b] he commented, his eyes scanning for a parking garage or even a parallel parking space for him to pull into. “No need to waste gas to a place that we can walk too.”[/b] Axel didn’t mind the walking part, it was good for him; mainly it was because he could feel his leg starting to get numb from all of the sitting down that he had done and all of the driving. He needed to get out of the driver’s seat and exercise before he took a spill and then had to explain to Ellia what the hell had happened and the reason why he couldn’t get back up. From the corner of his eye, as Ellia kept talking, Axel caught the sight of a parking spot, and instantly decided to take his opportunity. He had glanced at her again and frowned once more at the simple little request that she had asked of him. Really the reason that Axel knew that he wasn’t going to enjoy this was really because he knew that he was[/b] going too… and he didn’t want too. Axel lived a strict life of hunting and then moving onto the next spot. He never gave himself the time to sit down and enjoy the company of another person. The last time that he had he was with Remy and the two did nothing but bicker at one another because of Axel’s current condition and that the hunter was convinced that his medical remedies could help him. He didn’t want to enjoy having friends for the simple fact that Dante could use them as bait, he was even nervous of getting a dog because of him… “Fine.”[/b] He grumbled. “Don’t expect any smiles.”[/b] When he got his massive truck into park, he reached over the young woman’s lap and pulled open the glove box and pulled out an envelope in which he continued to fold and stuff into his pocket and slipped out of the front seat, holding the door open so that Winry could hop on out. Once she did though, she wandered over to Ellia’s door with her tail wagging in excitement. Axel also followed her and opened the door for her, afterward he pressed the lock button on the remote for his truck and then shut the door as soon as Ellia was out and ready to go. The weather was gorgeous, so walking was perfectly fine with Ellia. When Axel mentioned not smiling when he parked the truck, Ellia couldn't help but grinned. He'd made a huge mistake with that comment, as not making him smile before their date was over was the young blonde's primary objective. Her grin widened when the hunter opened her door for her, in what was a very gentlemanly gesture that honestly surprised her. As she stepped out, she leaned close and planted a light kiss on Axel's cheek. One surprising gesture for another, she figured. Kneeling down, Ellia scratched Winry vigorously behind the ears, leaning forward to bury her face in the dog's fur. She loved dogs, and had always wanted one of her own. Having Winry around was great, and made her wonder again if maybe she shouldn't get one of her own. It'd definitely help with the nearly-crippling bouts of loneliness she'd been struggling with recently... Standing back up, she casually slipped her arm through Axel's, leading him into the park. There weren't a lot of people around, surprisingly, though she figured that was a good thing considering Axel's reticence around crowds. Not for the first time, she wondered what in Axel's past had made him like this. After all, he was handsome, seemed to be smart enough, and had great manners. The fact that he was a gentleman and knew how to be polite to women didn't hurt either. So why was he so uncomfortable around people? She'd never ask, of course. Ellia wasn't one to pry, and she knew what it was like to have secrets. After all, she hadn't told him about her powers, and really she had no intention to. At best he'd think there was something wrong with her and not want to see her again. At worst, he'd think she was insane, maybe even call someone on her. Awesome. It didn't take them long to reach the cafe, a small open-air affair where they could order their food, and sit and eat it without ever having to even go inside if they didn't want to. Tugging Axel along with a smile, Ellia went to the counter and placed her order, then waited on her companion to do the same.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] I DON’T THINK I DESERVE IT, SELFLESSNESS
Axel closed the door of his truck after Ellia had dropped herself to the ground from exiting. Although he couldn’t help but make a face at her the moment that her lips had touched upon the flesh of his cheek. Honestly, he was more shocked of her gesture than anything. Part of the reason for that was because it had been a long since he had had human contact like that. Well, not entirely of course he got himself laid when he wanted it, but it was the fact that Ellia had kissed his cheek as a reward for the kind gesture that he had given to her.
It had been ten long years since someone had done anything nice for him.
Winry’s tail went buck wild as soon as the attention had been brought from her master and onto her. She yipped with happiness and ran her tongue straight up Ellia’s face as soon as she had pulled it out of her fur. For a dog that had been trained to slaughter on command, she was certainly a loving and caring creature. A lot of people believed that the soul of someone reflected back in the animals that they raised. At least that’s what Remy had thought, and he was constantly reminding Axel that somewhere underneath that rough exterior was a loving man who just needed people in his life.
It wasn’t for him.
Because of the life that he had lived, Axel refused to allow himself to do what his father had done to his mother. He told himself that a long time ago, and so far it had seemed to be working good for him, that is until he had realized that he actually was responsible for someone’s death and he just didn’t shit a give. Spending the last ten years alone in his life with no one but Kaylynn had left him cold and emotionless. Not entirely to be honest, Axel was a little disgusted with himself and with the man that he had become, but that was part of the job. You needed to be cold and emotionless to get through your days, if you weren’t you were most likely going to end up burying yourself in your problems with alcohol or drugs and Axel already drank enough.
Having a social life just wasn’t something that he wanted…
His eyes took a moment to look at the arm that Ellia had linked with his, and like a gentlemen, he had closed his arm tight into his side to keep her hand warm and secure as he stuffed his handed into the pockets of his leather jacket. He wanted to make sure that Ellia felt safe with him as they walked in silence. There was a small part of him that felt bad that they weren’t talking, he knew that Ellia was like his mother. She was talkative and outgoing and wanted to have company. Axel wasn’t the best company to keep.
As soon as they had reached the park however, Winry had thought that it was time to play. For the hunter that meant that he had to keep a close eye on her. She would never however take off running or anything towards something that would have caught her attention, but there was still that thought in his head that she was going to see something and she wasn’t going to be able to contain herself. After several minutes of Winry behaving, he had waved her off for her to find herself a stick, and as they walked, Axel threw a stick for her to enjoy herself. When they had left, Winry was right by their sides this time, except she was at Ellia’s side instead of her master’s.
They had finally reached the café, and Axel stood with Ellia as she placed her order, while she was busy, he looked around the place and then glanced to his faithful companion who had sat there next to Ellia and didn’t move, which was usually a sign that there was nothing but humans here.
Good.
Finally, Axel turned towards the woman behind the counter, place the order for his burger, and then looked at Ellia.
“Would you like to sit?” |
[/b] What kind of question was that? Of course she wanted to sit, the two of them had just walked together in silence. Instead of waiting for her answer, Axel led Ellia to a vacant table and pulled her chair out for her before he had walked to the other end and lowered himself down into it. Winry laid down at Ellia’s feet putting her head onto her paws and closing her eyes. [/div] [/center][/td][/tr][/td][/tr][/table][/center]

Ellia hadn't felt so light in a very long time. Being around Axel just made her feel good. And honestly, she didn't really know why. He was definitely not the sort of man that Ellia generally fell for; Axel was quiet, brooding, moody, and even a little short tempered it seemed. He was as far from the the partying, fun-loving guys Ellia tended to date, but for some reason she didn't care. Maybe it was the way he always treated her with such respect, like she was something to be treasured. Sure, all the guys Ellia had been with had treated her nicely, and had always been polite and kind to her, but Axel showed a whole different level of respect than she was used to, and she had to admit that it felt nice to be treated like a princess from time to time. Now all I have to do is get him to loosen up a little and have a good time...Did that mean she wanted to change him, so he was more like the guys she usually dated? Not at all. Axel was unique, and that was why she liked him. But that didn't mean it wouldn't be nice to see him smile more often, or laugh even... Smiling brightly, Ellia sat across from Axel and reached over the table to take his hands as they waited for their food. It was a gesture that she hoped didn't seem to intimate for the man, who she doubted was really into public displays of affection. But, at the same time, Ellia wanted him to know that maybe--just maybe--she was interested in more from him than just a casual friendship... Ellia St. Claire, knocked head over heels by a grumpy, brooding guy like this? And so quickly? What's the world coming to?She smiled a bit more at that, giving his hands a squeeze and deciding to try and draw him into a bit of conversation while they waited for their food. "So, what is it you do for a living anyway?" she asked, since she couldn't remember the subject having come up before.
