Notes: There were things that Axel never did with reason. One of them happened to be what he was doing right now. He never went out into public unless he needed too, and that usually only meant when he needed to feed himself and Winry, or when Winry needed to get out of the truck that they had been sitting in for a couple of hours. Other than that he often tried to keep to himself and avoid the subject that a lot of people these days wanted. Friends. Axel didn’t need them, nor did he want them. He was a hunter and having friends meant that they were going to get in danger, or that there was a possibility that they were going to be used against him. He didn’t want that. He wasn’t going to have someone else’s death hanging over his head or be because of him. Of course there was the occasional innocent person that died but that wasn’t his fault and he didn’t have any feelings towards this other person so it was a little different. With a friend however it meant that there were feelings involved, there was a personal attachment to them. Axel couldn’t risk that. There was too much shit going on his life for him to get close to anyone, and he knew that he was the type to get attached deeply. Winry was the perfect example, whenever she was hurt, or whenever something tried going after her, he’d often get pissed off and go into a killing spree. Either that or he felt extremely guilty for bringing her into the life that he had now, though he knew that he needed her because of his leg. He kept trying to tell himself that he didn’t need people like Ellia in his life. Nothing good was going to come out of this friendship other than the fact that she was going to get hurt, and she was going to get hurt because of him or because there was a monster that was after him. With Dante still out there on the loose, he couldn’t risk having anyone in his life at this moment. He didn’t even want to have Winry here with him, he knew that the demon could use the dog because of his attachment to her. Deep down inside he always felt bad for stealing her out of that pet store and forcing her to become his sidekick in all of the hunts that they go on together. If he couldn’t have friends, if he couldn’t have attachments, then why did he have Winry-Anne? Why was he here with Ellia right now? To be honest, he knew that he needed people in his life. He needed someone to be there for him when he had nowhere else to turn. For the longest time he had thought that he only needed a companion, he thought that he only needed Winry-Anne. But he needed human contact, he knew that, but who wanted to be around someone who was just so grumpy, so stubborn, and so mean all the time? Apparently Ellia. She was different though Axel could tell. In the long run, she respected the fact that he didn’t like be touched, and it seemed that she respected the fact that he didn’t like to talk about things, which seemed to be the reason why she always talked. Ellia – in some ways – understood the kind of person that Axel was. Why was that? He didn’t know, and honestly he didn’t care. When he was around her, for some reason he felt human. He didn’t feel angry, he didn’t feel like something was going to drop dead out of the sky. To him, it felt like it was just the two of them and no one else. He wanted to be here. Ellia was a beautiful and intelligent woman, he couldn’t help but look at her and feel in awe about her. There was no one else on the planet that seemed to understand him anymore. She was just so full of life and looked at things in a positive light that Axel wished that he had the same energy, the same personality and the same ability to be able to look at things like she did. Although he led a very different life than her, one more dark and sinister that turned him into the beast that he was now. However, the touch of her hands caused him to jolt out of his thoughts and instantly tense up. He’s been alone ever since his mother died. For ten long years he’s gone without human contact (except for the occasional whore, but they didn’t count). He didn’t pull his hands back though, of course he was extremely uncomfortable and he couldn’t help but make a face while looking to their hands and making that one syllable sound… “Hn…” |
It was her question that had brought him to look up and make eye contact. He didn’t know what to tell her. Why? Because he never actually had to tell someone what he did for a living. He never had to talk to anyone else that wasn’t a hunter. He didn’t really even talk to other hunters, the only time that he talked to anyone was when that stupid little device called a cell phone rang and that thing rarely ever did. It just sat in his pocket all day without use.
He shrugged his shoulders. “Don’t really have a job.”[/b] He answered, being as vague as he could. “Just travel around.”[/b] God this was a touchy subject, she could have asked him anything else other than this question. Then again, he wouldn’t have been happy with any question she might come up with really, he was the silent type and a man of many secrets. He didn’t want to tell her anything.
But he was doing it to keep her safe.
