Well this was it, her new "home." Yeah right. Everleigh hasn't had a "home" since her dad died. Places like this are more like extended stay hotels with room service...if the place was nice. Her last foster family paid so little attention to her that she didn't eat on a daily basis. Thankfully her new case worker was a good one and she was pulled from that place after only a couple of weeks.
It was situations like that that made Ever wish that she could be honest about her ability without sounding like the crazy girl. She can "feel" when a situation is gonna be bad for her but she obviously couldn't tell that to her case worker. "Hey yeah, I could tell that place was going to be bad when I walked in because I could 'feel' the badness." Uh huh...suuuuure. And then she gets sent to a psych hospital until she's eighteen. The end.
Everleigh sighed to herself as she dropped her bag on the floor of the room she was going to share with some fifteen year old slut named Jackie and looked around. It was clean and at least she had a bed so she couldn't complain. She knew that these foster parents weren't drunks and didn't have psych issues. She could "feel" that much already. But that didn't mean anything. Bad people come in all shapes and sizes. She rummaged through her bag, putting away the few pieces of clothes she possessed and shoving anything valuable to her into her backpack. Her backpack went everywhere with her. The kid had trust issues.
After settling as much as she could she made some mumbled excuse about checking out the neighborhood and slipped out the door. It was surprisingly easy to do this. No one really paid much attention to kids that weren't really theirs. As she wandered down the street she was careful to stay alert to her surroundings. She wasn't that dumb. She didn't want someone to get a jump on her or anything. This town didn't seem any different than any of the others that she's been in. Typical neighborhoods fenced in yards and people that would wave as she walked by. Nothing new.
She came to the corner of the street finally but didn't know which way to turn, right or left. Left seemed to continue into another boring neighborhood like the one she was just leaving. Right seemed to take her onto the main street and into town. Well right it is then.
As she turned the corner and headed onto the main road she found that the center to town wasn't all that big. There was a corner store, some other buildings and businesses but nothing too exciting. She decided to check out the corner store. A kid had to know the best candy places, after all.
The bell on the door jangled as she entered and she was relieved to feel nothing out of the ordinary upon entering. The cashier just seemed bored and there really wasn't anyone else around. Everleigh figured that most people were in school and still at work right about now. That was fine with her.
She looked up and down the aisles for the candy and found it in the fourth aisle down on the right side. They had a pretty wide selection so she settled herself down on the floor, scanning the selection of merchandise. It wasn't like she had any place else to go.

SHINY NEW PLACES AND PEOPLE TO SEE Trips especially around the holidays could make due for some good shopping, but Skylar wasn't here for the shopping, but that of a convention she had to go to for nursing… It was hard for her to be away from home, but it was a big change for her. The north east was much cooler then it was in Texas, and she missed her home and the hospital not to mention her animals, but it was a trip she had to take and with the new year right around the corner it was best to get this convention out of the way and done with and at least it was paid for as well. She was set up in a hotel down the street and decided it was a nice day for a stroll. It was a little nipper and the smell of snow lingered in the air.
She walked down many of the streets people friendly and waving and of course, she did the polite thing and waved back… It was good to see some places were just as friendly as where she is from when she had been adopted by the Norrington's and she herself has lived a pretty decent life in Texas and wants to make a difference and that is why she had became a nurse and worked with children on the children's ward. She would see some young mothers walking with their little babies and it made her heart flutter a little at their cuteness.
Sky herself had many friends with children and she adored them and envied them in a way to settle down with the right person and start a family… She wanted a family someday, but right now that just didn't seem like something that was in her cards. She hadn't met the right person just yet, but hey, she is still pretty young at the tender age of twenty-six so she has plenty of time. She hasn't seen her sisters in sometime and one of them was off to college up here so maybe just maybe she'd drop on by and see how things were going.
Skylar had went into this little corner store on main street it was a quaint little place... she had been browsing the aisles, and seen a little girl sitting in the candy aisle all by herself… it made Skylar wonder what she was doing there all by her lonesome and where her family was. Was she possibly lost? Skylar was one with a big heart and wanted to help the poor dear. Sometimes her curiosity gets the better of her and she mucks things up, but she had to see if the little thing was okay she couldn't be over the age of ten or so, but one never could tell really these days.
"Little Miss, are you all right?" Skylar said as she cautiously made her way closer to the young in. "You’re not lost are you?" She asked hoping the dear girl would answer her and that she didn't scare the poor dear. It just seemed like she should be in school or something with her age and all, but it is possible they could be on school holidays because of the holidays. Every Place is different after all. Therefore, Skylar stood there to see if this little thing would open up to her or run. She wasn't in any trouble. Skylar was just curious and had to make sure the little things is fine.
((Notes : Let me know if this works for you darling.. all my characters are in the south, but wanted to throw one in to thread with you. ))

A small pile of candy had started to gather at Ever's knees and she was just reaching for more when she heard the woman's voice above her. The child looked up at the woman standing over her and smiled a bit* Yeah, I'm fine. It didn't even occur to her that she was supposed to be in school so she had no idea why the woman had asked if she was ok. It also didn't occur to her that she shouldn't be wandering around alone. She did things like that so often that it didn't even bother her anymore
Lost...was she lost? She didn't answer that right away. Obviously she knew where she was. She wasn't that kind of lost. For Everleigh her loss was more emotional but she was sure that that wasn't what the woman meant so she just looked up at her and shrugged. No, I'm not lost. I just moved in down the street. She didn't realize that how she said that was weird. She didn't say that her and her family had moved, only that she did. Children didn't move on their own but Ever didn't consider the people who fostered her to be family so she never included them when she spoke. ((I don't mind at all! Thanks for joining!))

SHINY NEW PLACES AND PEOPLE TO SEE
Skylar had been worried about the little girl that had been sat there in the convince store. Did the clerk not think she was skipping school and try to contact her parents? It was not normal for a little girl to be in here on her own on a school day was it. Perhaps she was the owner’s daughter and Skylar was just being nosey. Sky asked if she was okay and the child looked up at her and grinned at her saying that she was fine… “Okay just checking it isn’t everyday I see a child alone in a store sitting in the candy aisle by her…” Skylar had explained to the little thing. She had been reaching up for more candy, and for all Skylar knew she could be on Christmas break or something from school, but again had to be sure and all in case she should be getting her study on.
So again, Sky had to be the nosey woman she is when it came to children or animals and ask the dear girl if she had been lost.. She had explained to Sky that she wasn’t lost, she lived down the street, and that she just moved here. “ I see, and where are your parents do they know you are out wandering alone?” She asked curiously and it was apparent by the look on her face that she was truly concerned about the child’s well being, but this did seem like a safe and friendly town so perhaps she had nothing to worry about since this wasn’t the big city where Skylar had been earlier at a nursing convention.
The town seemed safe, but Sky knew the world had some bad people or well things in it, and she just wanted the little stranger to be safe that is all. Sky really was too caring at times and she hoped she wasn’t scaring the little thing. She seemed to have no problem talking to strangers so it made her wonder if he parents taught her that she shouldn’t talk to them. What Skylar didn’t know was the little girl before her was a foster child. She wasn’t a mind reader.. “ I am Skylar and you are?” She asked the little thing to see if she would indeed give her name or tell Sky that she shouldn’t be giving out her name to strangers.
Skylar just didn’t want to see the little thing get hurt that is all. She is a beautiful little girl and in a way she reminded Sky of herself at that age.
((Notes : Awesome, and it is no problem at all. Welcome to Out of the Ashes <3 ))

Her face dropped a bit at the woman's next question...did her parents know where she was. Well, Ever did call out to them that she was leaving so...but, no, they didn't know where she was exactly. Everleigh just shook her head at the woman's question and frowned down at the floor. Now she was busted. If this woman offered to walk her home it would only be too obvious that Ever was a foster kid. The family she was put with didn't look anything like her at all. They all had darker skin and hair coloring than she did.
She only looked up again when the lady asked Ever's name. I'm Everleigh. The child didn't even think about not answering. The little girl was just way too friendly and open...well, about most things. She stood slowly and brushed herself off before gathering her candy together. She didn't know what she would do or where she would go now but she had no plans to go back to that foster home. She didn't wanna know those people very well. They were all the same anyway. Maybe there was a park nearby or something. The idea of doing some exploring around town made her smile a little to herself. Well um, I should go now. Bye. She made her way around the woman and over to the cashier who was half asleep at the counter. This had to be a boring job considering how small the town was. Everleigh handed over the four dollars for all the candy she bought and took the little brown paper bag that it was all put into and turned back to the lady that she had been talking to. She really did seem nice. It didn't occur to Ever to find her nosey, just concerned maybe. It made the child briefly wish she would meet more foster parents like that. Have a good day. She said before she started walking to the door. ((Thanks! ^^))

SHINY NEW PLACES AND PEOPLE TO SEE
The child that had been before her getting some candy was a beautiful child why anyone would not keep an eye on her was beyond Skylar, but at least the little thing wasn't lost and she lived down the street that was a plus. It made her wonder what the girl’s parents was like if she was here getting candy alone. Did she sneak away? Were they mean? Loads of questions flooded Skylar's mind. She was a curious kitten someday. Can she be blamed. At least the child wasn't finding her nosey.
The little girl introduced herself as Everleigh so her parents didn't seem to teach her not to talk to strangers, but in this case, Sky was just curious and didn't want to see the young dear hurt. She is a very generous person and loves kids. "Pleasure to meet you Everleigh. Such a beautiful name for such a beautiful young girl." Skylar had said complimenting the little one. It wasn't before long that she said that she should be going and said bye and headed up to the cashier… Skylar had grabbed herself a drink and walked up to the register as well, and paid for her bottled water before the little thing had said Bye.
She started to walk out the door. Telling them both to have a good day… One thing for sure was this girl was a polite young thing… "Are you sure you don't want me to walk you home?" Skylar asked. Just to be sure, since she was not sure if other kids her age wander the streets alone in this town. Skylar just wanted her to be safe is all? Skylar herself wasn't from around here nor did she know what the people were like. If the little one didn't want to be walked home perhaps Skylar will take her walk in the direction of the little one to see where she heads just to make sure she is safe, but that would be sorta stalkerish wouldn't it.
She reminded her so much of herself… Sky just did not want to see anything happen to her was there problems with that. She works with children on a daily basis so she is almost as if she is a big child herself at times and hates to see bad things happen to good people.

Everleigh had to think about the offer for a moment. She stopped at the door and bit her lip, feeling kinda awkward. She turned to the woman and fidgeted lightly on her feet before answering. No thanks. I'm not heading home yet. With that the child pushed open the door and headed out into the winter air.
Now that she was outside again she didn't know where to turn so Ever just headed in the opposite direction that she came from. This way led further into town and eventually to a little town square that had a small park with benches and a tiny, frozen over pond. She sat herself down on one of the two benches and pulled her knees up to her chest for added warmth before pulling open her bag of candy. She unwrapped a Tootsie Roll and munched on that while she looked around to get a feel for the area. She had to admit that this was a pretty little town and if it weren't for the fact that she was stuffed into yet another foster home she would be happy here, she thought. Given the circumstances, though, she didn't think she could be happy anywhere that she didn't really belong.

SHINY NEW PLACES AND PEOPLE TO SEE
Skylar really did not know why she was so drawn to this child and wanting to help her, but she was… It was just her nature and perhaps she does have a bit of a maternal clock going on and is motherly towards all the children she handles and offered to walk the young girl home, but she said she wasn’t heading home yet.. “ Okay. I figured I’d ask.” It is very well possible the child didn’t want to show up back home with a stranger she just met and all too. Skylar shrugged and watched her go out the cool winter air blowing in as she exited.
Skylar went out of the store sipping her water having no idea where the child had gotten herself to, but continued with her walk around the town. It was an amazing town and did seem like it was a good place to raise a family, and would be a decent town for the little one who had just moved there. So perhaps she should not worry as much as she did. Skylar scooped out some of the shops that had been in town and they did have some pretty nice places, but one thing was for sure she missed her home and her friends and family.
Skylar kept walking till she came to the town square, and that is when she saw her again the little girl sitting on a park bench eating the candy she had bought. “So we meet again. Must be a very small town.” Skylar had mentioned. “May I join you?” Skylar asked not really wanting to intrude so had to ask. She really was curious about this child’s story. Why would she want to be here alone was she an only child?

Everleigh's attention was drawn to a man walking his dog on the sidewalk in front of the park. His German Shepard was huge but he was beautiful. The child was reminded of the dog that another foster family that she stayed with had, Toby. Toby had, for some reason, decided that he was Everleigh's bodyguard and best friend from the moment that she entered the house. He would be at her feet under the table at meals, at the end of her bed at bedtimes and always ready to play with her whenever she wanted. The little girl had never felt so safe and loved as she did around that dog. Being reminded of him now made her a bit sad and she turned her eyes away quickly.
It was then that she heard Skylar approach. If it wasn't for her empathic ability Ever would have thought that the lady was following her but Ever could feel that the woman was very motherly and friendly so she didn't think anything of it. She turned and smiled up at the woman. Yeah, this does seem like a real small town. She replied to Skylar's comment. Everleigh moved over on the bench to make room for Skylar. Sure. The child liked this woman and wanted to get to know her more.

SHINY NEW PLACES AND PEOPLE TO SEE
The town really was small for her to have run back into the girl whom she met at the store. She was a sweet little thing and Skylar loved that and asked if she could join her. She was sat there on a park bench eating her sweet treats. Everleigh agreed that he place was small seeing as they met up once again. Skylar liked that about small towns and everyone seemed to know everyone and stuff…, so much different then the cities,
She asked to join her and Everleigh agreed that she could join her. "Why thank you darling. Do you come here a lot or is it your first time being new here."She asked looking out at the man with his dog playing. It made her smile a bit she loved that the dog had a home. She hated how many animals end up in the shelter and have to be euthanized daily. She just wanted to take them all home like she does with the adorable kids on her ward at work.
Skylar had a seat next to Everleigh sipping on her water and loving the view… "This is a lovely view don't you think?" It was very pretty… "So different from where I am from. It is a nice change." She said with a grin. "So Miss Everleigh what are you doing out here all by your lonesome don't you have any brothers and sisters to come out and play with you?" She really was curious more about the little person beside her.
