A BRIEF CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
Rumour was born to a pastor and his wife, but grew up far from the idyllic upbringing you might expect. Being a ‘monster’, her mother left her when she was five years old to face the beatings and mental torment of a drunken man who believed it was in his god given right to beat the devil from her body, a plight that seemed to be working, for by the time Rumour reached seven, she could no longer shift into the monster her father so feared. By the time she was 13, Devlin Everley had gone so far as to blind her. To put it simply, the girl was down on life, and longed for a death that never seemed to come. Then she met Shoshanna Bracey, and for a little while at least, things were good – better than. She had a reason to live and enjoy living, even if she did always pass up broken arms, bruises and scratches as a result of her clumsiness. The two planned to run away together…. but it never came to fruition. One day at school, Shoshanna simply wasn’t there anymore, and Rumours life returned to a circle of lies, punishment, torment and longing. Rumour became sarcastic and uncaring as she got older, caring little for herself and what other people thought of her, and taking to bed anyone who would have her for those few minutes of feeling wanted. She had no friends…. And became somewhat adept at hiding her weakness, her blindness, from the world, the same way she tries to hide her family life from the do-gooders who try to help.
Like seriously… when will they realise there is no help for her anymore?
