Simi:
It was a smiling Simi that bounced into her cousins house mid Saturday. Her steps were light and a genuine grin was on her face as she hugged Karlie, tormented Damon a bit and then snuggled her kitty that had been staying with them for a bit. As always, hot coffee and various baked goods were shoved in her face and she laughed at the love and warmth that always surrounded her here. Here, she didn't have to put on a false smile or force laughter because of the secret she hid from her mother nad brother and it allowed her a bit of ease to the tension in her shoulders.
The good lord knew she'd been staying here more than her own home on her random breaks and school weekends. Now that she was out of college, she was still trying to figure out what she wanted to do and this had seemed the right place to come to manage that decision.
After a few hours of cooing over her darling baby cousin, pelting Damon with chocolate covered raisins and making a general brat of herself, the slender blond excused herself to take a hot shower, slip into her HELLO KITTY flannel pj's (yesh, she was still a bit of a kid at heart) and taken her laptop to Karlie's office to check her email. She knew that her cousin in law was probably putting little Kayla down so she hoped to catch Karlie doing some work for the bar there.
Tapping on the door lightly, the pretty blond peeked into the room and spied the older woman doing just what she expected. "Hey Sissybug... Can I use your wireless for a few? I haven't check my emails in a few days and I 'm sure that Mama has seen something by now that if I don't respond too.. She'll send Bastian after me!"
Karlie:
Karlie loved having Simi there with her. They'd grown up quite close and since Simi had been at college, she'd been to Karlie's often. Karlie didn't mind in the slightest that Simi would come to stay, they had all those rooms that they had nothing to do with and Kayla and Chelsea ADORED her! Damon did too though getting HIM to admit it would be a problem.
Karlie liked to spoil Simi, though they were close in age, Karlie had grown up far too fast and Simi still kept a slight child like innocence. She'd retained more of that before the event.. the event that had clearly been praying on her cousins mind far too much and that had made that sparkle in her eyes go away.
Simi had gone for a shower and Damon had offered to sort the girls out so Karlie happily snuck off to her office. She had heard the tapping on the door and changed the screen very quickly. She'd love to say she was actually doing work but she wasn't.. She was shamelessly trying to beat Damon's high school at pacman. She'd smiled as Simi poked her head around the door. She asked if she could borrow Karlie's wireless and she nodded. "Of course sweety, you don't have to ask!" She said, spinning the other chair from behind her so Simi could sit down.
Simi:
Grinning impishly, Simi bounced in and plopped down in the seat offered. Setting her laptop down carefully, she wrinkled her nose and flipped it open to wait for the sign in menu. Her voice was playful as she looked at her cousin. "I know but... You know how mama is about manners and drilling them into Bastian and I. Its like.. a permanent habit"
Turning her attention back to the sign in screen, she quickly typed in her password and the mac loaded up to its main page. Hitting the email client, she signed into that and then glanced at the half dozen messages recieved. A frown settled on her brow as she saw one with the sender name of Gregg Steiner. Her breath suddenly caught in her throat and her finger hovered over the mouse pad before it hit open of seemingly of it own accord.
The caption that caught her eyes read "You were suppose to be the first."
Dread pooled in her stomach as the images began to load and bile rose in her throat. The first images were of herself in various states of dress and undress and being forced into horrible actions. A strangled cry escaped her throat but what truly horrified her more where the pictures of the other girls that followed. All in the same state... But all where undoubtabley dead.
"OH GOD... OH GOD.. OH GOD..." she cried, stammering to even breath
Karlie:
Karlie figured herself pretty safe letting Simi know her little secret so as Simi set herself down, Karlie started again in her pacman quest. Simi seemed to get on with her own thing as she signed into her laptop. Karlie hadn't thought anything of anything until she heard a cry escape Simi. She snapped towards her cousin and noted the look on her face as she started to cry out. Karlie grabbed the edge of the laptop, turning it towards herself so she could see the screen, actually gagging as she saw the images on the screen. She promptly pushed the laptop away and threw her arms around Simi. "Its okay sweety!!! It's okay!!!!!! I've got you and you're okay!" What the hell could you say?
Simi:
Shuddering from the impact of the pictures and the text, Simi's eyes were wide and wild. A small scream seemed to bubble from her throat until it worked its way into a full blown bellow. Vaguely, she knew it was her own voice but it felt as if it were coming from a million miles away.
Thankfully, before long, she screamed herself out of breath and could only gasp as she tried to breath through the terror and horror. All those images... Before, she had only a vague recollection of the events of the night and now.. Now it was back in full color clarity. Not only that.. But she knew now that she hadn't been meant to survive that night. WHY? Why would the sweet, funny man she'd fallen in love with two years ago do something like this?? It truly didn't make any sense.

Karlie:
Karlie continued to hold Simi. This guy was disgusting. Karlie had ACTUALLY thought he was a nice guy!! Well now she just felt disgusted she ever let him into her house or near her or her children, not to mention her gorgeous cousin. She had no idea how to make this better for Simi, it was one of those things and Karlie took 10 years to even deal with her similar experience so she just settled for doing the best she knew how to do, holding her close and stroking her hair. "Calm down simi! Its okay!! You're safe!! He can't get to you now!!" That was a lie, he was getting to her with that email, he was getting to her every time she thought about what happened. Karlie moved and knelt down before her. "Simi look at me, I'm not going to let anyone get to you!!"
Simi:
Vaguely, Simi heard her cousin's words and felt the arms wrapped around her. Rationally, she knew she was safe but the images kept flashing through her mind and the events seemed to be on repeat of that night. Suddenly, she started to gag and shot out of Karlies arms and run for the nearest bathroom, barely making it before she was violently sick. So many emotions whirled in her middle that she knew that she hadn't even begun to deal with that night.. No matter what kind of front she'd succeed in putting up.
Finally, with nothing left in her and having given up the dry heaves, she pushed herself up, washed her face and exited the bathroom to find Karlie standing worriedly in the hall. With hollow, haunted eyes, she went into her arms and allowed herself to be lead as her mind whirled angrily.
"I don't understand, Karlie... How could I have been so wrong about him? How could he have deceived me so throughly? And .. What did that mean? That I should have been the first? The first what? To die? Oh GOD... WHat if i was MEANT to die that night, Karlie??" she cried hoarsely.
Karlie:
Karlie wasn't surprised that Simi had run away to be sick. Karlie half felt like doing the same thing but she kept together for her cousin's sake. She'd stood outside the bathroom door for a while, chewing mindlessly on her thumb as she waited. Her husband had come up to her and asked her what the hell was going on and Karlie simply told him she couldn't explain but asked if he'd get her hot water bottle and a glass of water for her, instructing him to leave them in Simi's room and he left her to it. God love him, he knew when a girl needed space and totally respected it!!! It was a while before Simi returned. Karlie heard her dry heaving, like she stil needed to be sick but nothing was coming out. This whole thing was hurting her heart. But it was the look in Simi's eyes that alarmed Karlie the most. The hurt in them was so overwhelming. She'd walked into Karlie's arms and the petite ex-hunter managed to just about hold her up, despite the fact that Simi was almost half a foot taller than her. Karlie felt like she was almost carrying Simi as she got her into her room and listened to her speak.
Karlie had got them both to the bed, encouraging Simi to sit on it as she let out a painful sigh. "I don't know sweety. I really don't know. He had us all fooled, not just you! You couldn't have known!! And i don't know what its meant to mean, all i can say is that he wont get away with it!! I promise you!!!" The idea that Simi was supposed to die that night was overwhelming for Karlie. She couldn't help but wonderif she was meant to die that night then.. why didn't she? Why didn't they do it when they had the chance?? She couldn't even respond to Simi's question, she couldn't even bare to come up with an answer. She just thanked any god up there that Simi's fate hadn't been the same as all those other girls, even if it seemed like right now the world was ending!
Simi:
Thank God she'd managed to get to Karlies before she'd opened her laptop. That was all Simi could think of as she allowed herself to be coddled and then tucked on to her bed. God, if she'd opened that email while at the motel with Ryder.. The good lord only knew what she would have done. The last thing she wanted or needed was to drag anyone else into this mess and it looked as if she couldn't just tuck it under the rug. There was a reason that he'd sent that email to her but Simi was just to worn out to figure it out. Gradually, with her cousin stroking her hair, she drifted off into exhausted sleep.
Her savaged mind simply could not handle anymore and all the exhaustion of the last few weeks of being at home and then this took hold
