3 minutes.
How can life really change that much in 3 short minutes?
3 minutes is the amount of time it takes to brush your teeth, update your face book status, soft boil an egg (this one is rather important in Tameryn’s case as it is in fact one of the few things her daughter will eat, although technically Tammy can’t even boil an egg), oh and you can wait for the display on a pregnancy test to tell you if you can be expecting the pitter patter of tiny little feet.
That last one was rather appropriate for Tameryn too. It also answered the whole ‘life changing’ question didn’t it?
For a while now Tammy hadn’t been feeling, how you’d say, quite right. When you have a lot of friends around you who are also ill, run a bar that keeps you almost constantly around people and have a child who picks these things up like they’re toys she has to collect, well getting sick is a way of life. Tam’s boyfriend was still studying as well and when he got sick too it seemed like a no brainer. Being sick hadn’t been too bad, especially not together. Tammy seemed to have more get up and go than Kellen did so when something needed to be done she was capable of doing it. They still had a 15 month old to take care of. The world couldn’t just stop.
While spending your days curled up in bed together with your baby and watching disney cartoons that totally didn’t interest you in the slightest seemed like fun, and while it was fun, it wasn’t all that great when you had jobs and deadlines. Tam was quite fortunate that she had her own business, well technically her Mom’s, to run and a group of staff that stepped up to the mark on the rare occasions it was needed. Kellen however had come to the point where he needed to go back to work or get a doctors note a few days back. He’d been, got his note and had some routine tests done before heading back home.
Their doctor had rang them early in the morning to tell Kellen that his blood work was in and to pop in for the results. Honestly neither of them thought anything of it. He just got dressed and headed out. While he was gone, Tammy had attempted to have a tidy about of their bedroom. There was nothing major. Mainly Eden’s toys. Eden was their little cookie face currently asleep face first and bottom up on her parents bed and snoring so cutely that she could get away with it. As she was cleaning Tammy had lifted up her bag, the bag that she kept in the closet until a couple of days before aunt flo was due to hit. Their bedroom had an en suite and it was easy if it hit in the middle of the night to grab the bag from just underneath the bed and go sort herself out.
But then it hit her - She’d put that bag there at least two weeks ago.
No. She wasn’t late. She definitely wasn’t that late. That late was like alarmingly late. She hadn’t been that late since she was pre…. - SHIT! Shit crap fuck buggar wank! God she picked up too much british slang in the 15 years she’s known her future husband.
Tammy opened the bag she had found and pulled out the one thing she kept in their in case of an emergency but had never had to use and hadn’t planned on using any time soon and well she hadn’t used one like it for…. Whats 15 plus 9? Oh right, 24. 24 looong months. The second youngest child of Karlieann and Damon Rhys Damara now had to brace herself for what came next as she squatted over the toilet seat and peed onto a little white stick.
Her bathroom door was wide open so she could look and see if her baby girl woke up and as she lifted herself back up and cleaned herself up she knew that just by looking into the bathroom mirror she had a clear view of the room behind her. Tammy stood over the basin as she waited for the result on the test. Her straight and newly blonde locks fell over her face slightly as she looked down at it.
As she heard a voice behind her and the three words she’d been dreading more than anything for years, the test fell from Tameryn’s hand and into the basin beneath her and she looked up into the mirror to see the love of her life stood there. He was slumped against the doorframe and just staring down.
Tammy’s body spun around so fast she felt that her stomach stayed where she’d been originally. Maybe that was shock or fear or one of the million other emotions hitting her as she looked between her fiancée and the papers in his hands. She could see the tears staining his face despite the fact he was yet to actually look at her.
Her body shook for a moment before she practically ran at him, her body attaching to his and her head pulling itself to his chest like some sort of magnetic force pulled it there. She swallowed down the lump that had suddenly formed heavily in her throat. It felt like she was trying to dry swallow a tennis ball or something.
Tammy’s gaze turned up, the tears already dripping delicately from her lashes despite the desperate attempts to stay strong. “It’s gonna be okay.” Was that a lie? She didn’t even know. She didn’t know anything right now. “What do we know?” Tameryn was a “right go to it” kind of girl and didn’t always realize that not everyone else was. But right now if she didn’t start trying to thing of ways to fight this she was just going to break down and that wasn’t acceptable.
She loved Kellen. She loved Eden. She loved their little family more than anything. She couldn’t live without them, either of them. Tammy needed Kell to keep her strong and Eden needed her daddy.
One thing was for sure…. Those 3 minutes changed Tameryn Rhys Damara’s life and she hadn’t even seen the result on that pregnancy test.

Kellen had been sick for sometime now and he didn't like it. Sure it was possible that he could have got sick in various ways, but something just didn't seem to right about it so the other day he went in for tests to be done to make sure it wasn't serious. He couldn't bare if it was serious. He knew it was possible he could just be really ill with the horrid flu going around not to mention that well the weather isn't very warm this time of year and he always seemed to be doing something and that sometimes wore him out not to mention their little to that was forever bouncing about getting into messes. She was their cookie face and he loves her to bits.
He had got a call from the doctor to come in and have a talk with him the lab results were in so he got dressed and kissed his future wife, and little girl thinking nothing of it and headed out to the appointment that visit was one of the most horrific and shocking talks he had in a while his heart sank when he got the results and he couldn't believe it all this time he had been in remission only for it to relapse now when things are so good and he is so happy. Figures this was the next bad thing to happen in their lives right? Her brother is getting divorced her cousin had a twisted Demon her arse trying to kill her. Chey was attacked by a demonic sky squid from hell, and this was their hell. He didn't know how he was going to tell Tams.
He slunk out to his car and had a good cry. Yes he cried. He feared dying and leaving his family behind. They mean the world to him. He knew he just had to tell her he couldn't keep it a secret. Her family was like the no secrets type of people. He calmed himself down and drove home in disbelief. He braced himself for telling Tams. He didn't want to upset her or make her cry. He knew she would too he knew she would cry like he was. He sat there in his car for a bit sighing to himself his hands running threw his hair as his hands were on his head. Asking himself how am I going to break this to her? He wondered if Eden was awake or asleep. He loved his little cookie monster.
" Here goes nothing." He said getting out of the car, and heading into the house it had been quiet down stairs so he headed up to their room to find her looking in the mirror in the bath room and Eden was on the bed with her tooshie up in the air looking so cute if he wasn't so upset it would be a kodak moment for sure. He strolled over to the bathroom and slumped against the door frame. His hair was all a mess and he had the papers in this hand looking at them still in utter shock and disbelief. He had told her the cancer is back and she spun around quickly and launched herself at him hugging him, and clung herself to him and his chest as if they were magnetic, his head resting upon hers as they hugged. He felt horrible.
He couldn't even make jokes about it. She had tried to tell him everything would be okay. Would it really? It could very well be possible that it isn't. She was crying and shaking he could feel it and could tell by her voice she was fighting back more tears she asked him what they knew. "I know it is a good thing I went to get tests done otherwise it would have gotten really bad." he said in almost a whisper his voice was drying and cracking as if he had a lump in his throat. He had been nervous to tell her any of this, but best he got it straight out.
"I should probably start treatments soon again. It's bad, but it could be worse." He said with a frown on his face what were they going to do? He worked, and was going to school. He didn't know what he was going to do about that. She had been a trooper when he had it when he was little. " I know we will make it threw this like last time." He told her knowing that it may not be true and that it is possible he could die. He was just trying to comfort her some and try to put her at ease a little knowing it probably wouldn't work, but they had to have hope right?
He clung to her, and held her close the door jam that he was slumped against keeping them up, he had began to stroke her back softly, and closed his eyes trying not to cry again. He hated her crying it always made him want to too. He didn't even notice what was in the sink, he just held her close and stayed that way. He didn't feel like sicking up right now, but surely he would in a bit his nerves were on edge. Kel had whispered in her ear. " I love you." and just clung to her as if his very life depended on just that. The papers he once had his hand dropped to the floor.

Kellen. That was what was important. She knew that. She knew she shouldn’t cry. But she couldn’t stop.
He’d told her it was a good job he got tested before he got really bad. That was their favorite line when it came to cancer. ‘Best to catch it early.’ He told her he’d have to start treatment again soon. Was it going to be the same as last time? Months and months of fighting and not knowing what was going to happen or even if he’d be okay?
Were there going to be days lost going through chemo and sucking on popsicles again? And really what about their baby girl? How was she going to react when daddy got too frail to play? Or when he started to lose his hair? How could she be so freakin’ scared? She was so much stronger last time.
She’d spent her life being scared of this.
Kellen was being the strong one now. He told her he knew they’d make it through like they did last time. She felt bad that he was trying to comfort her! He was the one with cancer!!! She could feel him cling to her, his hands clutching at the material of the hoodie she wore. His hoodie for that matter. She thanked god for the door frame or neither of them would have likely been able to hold themselves or each other up. The feeling of his hand stroking her back was like nothing else in the world and it forced her to look up at her baby once again as an I love you was whispered in her ear.
Tameryn leaned her body up, her hands taking each side of her babies face and her lips working themselves against his. They both tasted like tears but his were lingering and barely there. More proof of the tears the stains on his cheeks had already given away. Hers however were still dripping down her face, landing gently onto her top and probably him.
The kiss while delicate and romantic was also slightly desperate. Like she needed him. She needed proof this moment was real.
The twenty two year old stood there, completely lost and confused had been about to muster up something profound and useful when another loud cry came from her. Her hands covered her eyes as her chest rose in almost a hiccup. She didn’t know what was stronger right now. The need to cry or the need to vomit. Both were quite prominent.
Tammy bolted towards the toilet without a second thought, her hand literally grabbing the seat and throwing it up as her head moved over it. She wasn’t sure if it was the sound of her or the wooden toilet seat hitting the cold ceramic back of the toilet but the next thing she heard was Eden crying. She couldn’t quite keep the little that was in her stomach down though. She could simply listen to the poor little imp cry. That surely wouldn’t be helped when she saw the state of both of her parents.
Kellen & Eden. She needed to get herself together for them. She shouldn’t cry. So she tried really hard to stop. She tried to be strong.

He couldn’t blame his lover for crying she had all the reason to cry as does he. He was ill. What if he didn’t make it threw? They had a little girl to think about to, but it wasn’t his fault that he was ill. Things happen. They needed a good cry about it. He would do what he could to live threw this for the best girls in the world. He really just couldn’t believe that it happened to him again! He looked over at the bed again briefly, and seen their cookie face still fast asleep on the bed with her butt in the air. It was the most adorable thing in the world and he didn’t want to miss any bit of that. How was she going to cope with all this. Would she even remember when she is older? If he passed would she remember him? It wasn’t something he wished to think about. He wasn’t giving up like some would and give into defeat. It wasn’t an option.
He was trying to be strong for his family. He was trying to be strong. He had to be strong and beat this. At least they did catch it early. He had to fight. He would start treatments straight away. He wanted to finish his courses, but what if he can’t? He couldn’t do them laid up in bed. What will happen when he gets to tired to play with Eden? He was going to do his best to try not to let anything change their routine, but he couldn’t promise anything. All he could promise was he would fight! He held his beautiful lover in his arms, stroking her back softly, tears stained his face and surely were hers as well. The door jam was the only thing keeping them where they were right now. He wished he would wake up tomorrow and this would just be some kind of nightmare.
He was clinging to her for dear life. She maybe emotional right now and crying, and it proved how much she loved and cared for him. If she was heartless she would have just left with the baby and told him to screw you I hope you die. He is honored to have such a loving girl by his side and she and Eden are what make every day worth living and fighting. Right this moment he just wanted to cling to her as if it would make everything okay, and he wasn’t going down on a sinking ship.
His hands clutched the material of the hoodie she was wearing which was his. He loved that she would wear his stuff it looked sexy on her. She makes them look all the more beautiful. He thinks they look better on her then they do on him. He had whispered to her that he loves her. He does with all of his heart and with all his heart has to give fully. She had placed her hands on his cheeks, and brought her lips to his and they shared a romantic kiss. He wished they could just stay this way forever as if her lips really could bring him back to life and make everything bad go away. Her lips were so soft and delicate, and he kissed her back closing his eyes getting lost in the moment. Both their lips tasted of tears, but that didn’t phase him right now. He just was enjoying the moment.
After they shared a beautiful kiss. She began to cry again, and it made him feel bad he hated to see her cry, she ran off to the loo to be sick and now he was worried about her. Was she okay? He could ask that, but it would be really stupid question of course she wasn’t okay. They found out that he had cancer again it was enough to make anyone tummy turn. His was in knots as is. He just didn’t know what was going to happen or what they could except, but at least they caught it early enough. He just stood there, and watched her. Right there that is what the next few months or longer could be for him. The loo would be his best mate.
He could make jokes about naming the loo, but he doubted she would be amuzed right this minute. Eden had woken up and started to cry. He loves his baby girl, and she surely would know something is wrong, but the tearstains on their faces, he had stood there for a moment where he was against the jam, before stranding up, and walking over to his little mite, and picking her up. He was biting back his own tears trying to be strong. “ Shhhhhhhhh… Daddy’s here.” here cooed at her, would she noticed the raspiness of his voice?
He would always put on a brave face and try to be strong for their little girl and act as if nothing was wrong if he had to. He had stroked his little girls back, and paced around the room trying to sooth her she continued to cry. “ Is someone hungry? Perhaps there is stinky in the diaper?” he asked his nose scrunched up a little, as he lifted her to take a whiff. He was trying cheer her. “ Phew, Eden. What did you eat!” he said totally faking. She didn’t stink, but maybe it would cheer her and she wouldn’t notice he or mommy have been crying. He flew her around the room as if she were super girl. “ Are you okay in there?” He asked his soon to be wife. He hated the fact she was getting sick too, but could he blame her of course he couldn’t this is a stressful situation. Eden continued to cry. Super Super girl wasn’t working. She was irritated or something. “ I think Eden wants her mummy too.” Kel had stated they could have a big group snuggle.
Poor Kel just flying her around the room now and he was already feeling a little tired, he had cuddled her in his arms and said. “ I love you my little cookie” he then began to fake nom at her, and laid in the bed with her against his chest and hoped mommy would come and join them. He really did hope she was okay. He was worrying about her which took his mind off feeling sorry for himself. Eden just didn't want to stop crying. He looked at her and frowned at her pouting his lip. Sometimes crying at them and pouting would get her to stop and she would tell him daddy your silly.

Well, if kissing the toilet wasn’t fun enough, how super fun was it to have your child get hysterical.
The poor thing probably didn’t have the slightest idea what was going on. Tammy could hear Kellen in the other room shushing her and trying to calm her down with little success. The pretty blonde hanging over the toilet was sure there was nothing more left in her. She hated feeling this rubbish. Had she known she was pregnant she would probably be thinking ‘this is nothing compared to last time’ but the whole pregnancy thing had completely gone out of her head.
It was true her pregnancy with Eden was horrendous. She was barely able to get out of bed she was so ill and her big brother practically looked after her for 7 months. It was typical that on the thanksgiving, the first time Kellen had really let her do anything that didn’t involve laying in bed, the first time she’d been around the people she loved and was having something remotely considered ‘fun’ and her waters broke pulling the turkey out of the oven. It was true that it was quite hilarious the way Kellen freaked thinking she’d hurt himself.
All the pain, the illness and the bed rest was worth it though. Tameryn couldn’t begin to imagine a life without her daughter. Not now. Her life and her relationship were both so much happier and stronger for having had Eden. Guess they were a classic case of a life having been made better by having kids young. They took a leaf out of her parent’s book on that one. They were always who Tammy aspired to be. They were still so happy and in love. To see Karlieann and Damon around one another you’d think they were still in the love sick puppy phase yet the pair had been married for nearly 29 years. How crazy was that?
Morning sickness really was the pits.
Miss Rhys Damara let her head shamelessly rest against the bathroom tiles. Her body twisted and laid across the floor in a bizarre way that made even her wonder if it was natural. The sharp cold of the ceramic tiles was amazingly refreshing against her flushed cheeks. She pulled quick breaths in and out of her chest and finally deemed it safe to leave the bathroom.
Flushing the toilet, Tammy grabbed a wad of paper from the toilet roll and headed into the bedroom, wiping her face gently.
It was always nice to be sweaty and pasty, even nicer when you’d just spent a good long while throwing up what could have very possibly been your guts. That was literally all Tammy could think it could have been. It made her honestly worry about Kell more. This was what awaited them for the next few months and with the both of them fighting for the toilet it was surely not going to be fun.
Looking over at the bed she saw her boo and her baby laid there, despite the fact Eden was screaming they looked so cute, especially the way Kellen was pouting at their little cookie face.
Tammy moved to lay beside Kellen on the bed, her movements awkward as she slid onto it and tried to position her body in a way that was even slightly comfortable. The second her daughter laid eyes on her she began to wriggle and crawl towards her momma. She was hysterical and it was actually starting to worry Tammy. She was quite close to Kellen and Eden and it made it possible for Eden to crawl just far enough to lay her head onto her mommas chest and then suddenly stop, her legs still laid across her papa.
Tameryn stroked her little nuggets hair ever so gently and looked down at her.
“What is with the tears, you? Huh?”
Eden continued to cry but the way she looked at her mother made it clear she wasn’t quite sure why she was crying. In fact looking at Kellen, Tams was sure they shared the opinion; Eden was just crying because they themselves were crying.
Tammy’s thumb traced over her baby girls cheek trying too sooth her and sighed.
“I think someone needs her binky!”

His baby girl was so distraught he didn’t know what to do to help her. One would think he, her mummy had been fighting, and she was throwing a bit of a strop it made him wonder if she knew. She flew her around the room and it wore him out a little. It was what he could expect the next few month’s and so on. Kellen had laid her on the bed with him, shushed her, and tried to get his best to calm her, but that was a no go. He thought she wanted her mummy to. It made him wonder if he was every like this with his parents. Was she like this with hers? It opened up a world of thoughts.
He really did feel horrible about this whole situation, but was trying his damnest to be strong for the both of them it is what a father and boyfriend should do right? He really did hate crying in front of them both, but the tears well he couldn’t really control them. He hoped that Tams was okay in there. If he could, he would get right up and see if she was. His little munchkin was crying her eyes out and he couldn’t sooth her anything he tried wouldn’t work. He thought she wanted both her mummy and daddy.
He had even resorted to crying and pouting at her to see if that would make her stop, but it was a no go and she cried even more. When he mommy came in, he smiled softly at her, and spoke “Why hello Sunshine.” he had commented he was glad she came out and decided to join them. He hoped that she was okay. He was worried about his beautiful girls as they surely were worried about him. Perhaps that is why Eden was crying, but he couldn’t be sure.
Tams laid beside them and Eden crawled over to her mother crying at her and laying her head on her mother, and her legs were on him. If it weren’t for her crying it would have been the cutest thing in the world. She didn’t even know what she was crying about so it seemed, but maybe with the both of them there she would be happier. He had only hoped that would be the case. He watched in awe a totally adoring look on his face as he watched Tams with her and stroke her hair asking their little girl that she is talking about.
They both had been crying and that was the reason that there little one was crying and that is even more reason why he hated crying in front of her. Tameryn told him that she things someone needed their binkie, and he took Eden’s feet off him and sat up and sniffed them feet she had on him trying to play with her.. “Eww, Eden stinky stinky feet.” he teased trying to get a giggle, but that was a no go, and she continued to wail. He crawled out of bed and into the bathroom where the binkie had been.
He scratched his head and searched near the sink finding it on the counter top, and found something inside the sink that made him arch a brow. It was a test. A test he seen before and her just stared at it shocked. He couldn’t believe it. Could they possibly be pregnant again? It made sense why she could have been sick if it wasn’t for the stress of him telling her his horrific news. Could they have some sad new and good new in the same day? Was it possible?
Kellen was nervous as to turn the test over. It had been lying face down in the sink so he couldn’t read the results. Did she know already? He couldn’t believe it. He found the binkie too, closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He had been so excited last time she told him, she was pregnant. He didn’t want her to feel she should hide it this time or that they can’t have said baby in case he gets bad. He had picked up the test, and opened his eyes to look at it. “ Well here goes nothing.” he had softly to himself as if the mirror was going to tell him no don’t turn it over don’t do it.
It slowly turned it over to reveal the results taking far to long getting a binkie and Eden was having a good cry session while her mother tried to calm her. He had walked out of the bathroom and giddy grin on his face. Yes, they were indeed pregnant. It was the news of the day that surely cheered him up. “I took this test in the bathroom, and oh my word. I am pregnant.” he teased with some seriousness to it. He wasn‘t pregnant per say she was.
Coming over to the be with the test in one hand and the binkie in the other hand to give to his baby to make her feel better, he had slid in next to them and handed over the test to Tameryn. He had scooped up his little girl with the binkie in her mouth and gave her Eskimo kisses, and shhhing her as she was still trying to calm herself down, and daddy was trying to calm her down as he gave Tams time to process what was going on.
