Prim reached around to the chalk bag that hung at her hip, dipping her fingers into the white powder and smearing it over her hands, releasing the excess dust with a clap of her hands as she looked up at the wall in front of her. There were few people here today; a kids party on the learners wall, but that seemed pretty much it. Prim ran her fingers back through her Blonde hair – after Deus she had gone back to her natural colour, and now her fingers left a slash of white through the already light strands that floated loosely around her face as she started to climb.
Taking life by the horns for once, Prim had chosen not to bother with a harness this time as she scaled the wall. The fall was not enough to kill her – not with the pads that lay at the base anyway, but she might still brake or strain something. But if the events of the last few weeks had taught the petite, frail looking girl anything, then it was that she shouldn’t be afraid of life anymore. After all, she knew where her soul was going once it did come to an end, it wasn’t like she had death to fear anymore. It was not like it was all some great mystery...
Prim blinked, cursing herself mentally. She was here for a reason, to forget what ha happened. Climbing was a quick way to clear her mind, an easy way to escape the pressure in her head, the emotions that refused to allow one or another to break through – it saved her from sitting on her couch in her apartment – it saved her from Leo’s probing questions.
By the time she was three quarters of the way up the side of the wall, about 30 feet from the floor when her fingers began to slip from the stones. Cursing her luck, Prim reached back into her chalk bag with one hand, fiddling around until she got the drawstrings open. As she dipped her fingers into the white powder for the second time however, her grip on the climbing wall failed, and Primrose Thatcher, fell.

Climbing wasn’t one of his favourite sports, but he tried anything once...and he guessed it wasn’t so bad. Rather cathartic, actually. He wasn’t really focussing much for the first leg of the journey, just pushing his hands tight against the cold stone, feeling the jagged edges bite back against his palm. It was easy enough to start with, the muscles on his arms tensing as he threw himself up, shifting his weight and giving himself a further shove by pushing up with his leg.
He had noticed from the start, of course, that he wasn’t alone on this particular wall. That was half the reason he had chosen to climb this one. Not that there was much more choice, other than the wall that was raided by a kids party. No. He had seen her figure slightly above his, the way she seemed so focussed on the wall...and the way she moved with practiced skill. He felt oddly drawn, and not just by her beauty. Nick had never been one to just stand and watch, so he decided to follow her. That wasn’t creepy at all, right?
He had been halfway up when it happened. Letting his dark eyes glance upwards, he saw her reach to put more chalk on her hands. He saw her balance adjust, and then he saw her slip. Just one false move, and it sent you plummeting down. Even with a harness, it wouldn’t be a pleasant experience, and you could still get jarred in the impact. Kind of like how a seat belt can graze or burn into your shoulder if you come to a stop too quickly. Safety devices don’t guarantee you get out unscathed, they just avoid major injury or, well, death.
He reacted on instinct, so close to her now that he was able to do it. Forcing himself up that last bit, he threw himself to the side, his arm catching round her waist and pushing her back against the wall so she could get her grip back. He kept his arm there, gently, waiting for her to sort herself out. Almost protectively. His eyes caught hers, and he gave her a small smirk of greeting.

- - - - - - - - ❧ - - - - - - - - • • • • • we are just M I S G U I D E D G H O S T S - - - - - - - - ❧ - - - - - - - - For a second, time seemed to slow as she fell; falling back from the wall seemed to take a period of time that was far too long to be any actual reality. Despite the fact she knew that this fall wasn’t about to kill her, part of her hoped it would – a very tiny fragment of herself that longed for a resolution to her turmoil – one that was soon buried beneath the run of adrenaline through her veins as she fell, slipped down the rock as her feet scrabbled for some form of purchase against the air. A vain attempt perhaps, but even if her mind accepted the fall, her body did not.
What came next however surprised the girl only further – her back met resistance as something – no, someone caught her. For a wild second she thought it may have been Deus, here to protect his investment – but no. She felt herself pushed back against the rock and her feet found the purchase they were so longing to find, her fingers the rockface that they had sought out. Despite the sweat on her hands, the accumulated grease from her climb, they clung as if her life depended on it. Not exactly true, but she wasn’t about to let her grip slacken again now was she?
Prim Turned her head, and for a split second she met the gaze of the man who had caught her – a man, she realised, with deep brown eyes. She quickly tore her gaze away, her emerald eyes instead studying his face, never again meeting his eyes as they grossed over his jawline, his nose, the stubble smattering his cheeks. She bound her heart racing as she clung to the rockface, all too aware of the arm snaked around her waist – she hadn’t even realised anyone else had been climbing, let alone been close enough behind her to catch her.
She looked away, to stare at the wall in front of her and lay her forehead on the cool stone. “Thank you, ” She breathed, working on slowly her racing heart – though his arm wasn’t making it any easier. She had never been comfortable with people touching her, let laone people she had never met. Though she guessed.... he had saved her from her fall.

His gaze met hers for that brief second, until she tore away from his gaze. Glancing down, he swallowed uneasily, keeping pressure on her back to maintain her balance until she found her grip. Had he made her uncomfortable? Truth be told, he felt rather uncomfortable...reason for his awkwardness? Well, despite the fact he was a flirt, he found it difficult with really...well, amazingly hot women. And the woman he was holding right now? He felt his own pulse quicken, and, yes, he had to push down his lust before there came a certain noticeable bulge down there...nope, it wasn’t a gun I was talking about!
“Thank you, ”
He watched as she caught hold of the wall again, and his small, rugged smile returned to his features. Gently he withdrew his arm, seeing as it appeared to have such an affect on her. He was still ready to catch her again if needs be though. Switching positions, allowing himself to get a stronger stance with his legs, he also managed to turn towards her at the same time, his eyes fleetingly appraising her. Nick was skilled in that department, so hopefully she wouldn’t notice!
“You ok now?” his voice had the thrill of an Irish accent beneath it, mixed with something else, “I’m Nick by the way...nice to meet you. I would offer out a hand, but shaking hands up here might not be a wise idea. Maybe we should get back to some level ground.”

Not that she was about to admit to anything of the sort aloud, falling had shaken her to her very core – it was not something she had ever done before. She was always so careful, so meticulous in her climbs that even Paul, the guy who usually held her ropes if she was here, would joke that really she didn’t need them. It would be typical therefore that the one time she would take him up on such an idea would be the first time she slipped form the rocks beneath her currently trembling fingers.
Breathing deeply through her nose, Prim shut her eyes and blocked out the world for a second, working on getting the different parts of her body under control. During her years of therapy this had been a technique she had been taught to help when she was scared, after nightmares and the such, and now it was helping to calm the trembles running through her arms. Soon enough, luckily, she found herself able to movie and flex her fingers without fear of sliding from the rock face, found herself able to breathe without her heart racing or leaping into her throat. Then his voice cut through her thoughts again, and scattered what she had managed to collect to the wind.
Opening her eyes, prim turned her head to look at him, her eyes scanning over his face once more, taking the stubble on his cheeks, the dark locks of his hair styled to look like he’d just crawled from bed. That, or he had. She found a smile pulling at the corner of her lips, and she nooded in answer to his question before speaking up softly.”Yeah,yeah.. I’m fine, thank you. Getting down is probably a good idea...” She swallowed, her throat suddenly dry, and she averted her gaze back to the rock, planning her route down carefully, the path highlighting itself in her eyes as she started to descend. It was only once she was beneath him that she relaised he had given her name, and she should probably give hers in return, given that he ahd just saved her from a plummet after all. Looking up, she leaned back slightly on the wall and smiled up at him. ”My names Primrose... er... Prim.”
