Since her ‘experience’ in the graveyard, Prim had hardly left her apartment. Hell, the only reason she was even here at all, rather than the orphanage, was because of Leo – she figured it wasn’t exactly fair leaving him here on his own whilst she cowered at the orphanage. Though indeed she knew he could find her there, after all, she had been staying there as a favour to one of the night staff when she had met him, but for some reason she felt safer within the confines of her old room, the familiar smell of the old building brought comfort to the little blonde in a way not much else could. Yet, here she was amongst her rented furnishings, sat in the centre of her bed with her knees tucked up beneath her chin, listening to Leo rustle around in the kitchen.
She fell onto her side, fingering the material of her covers and felling... well. She wasn’t too sure. How should she feel? She had slept with a demon who had taken her soul in return for something she had forever wanted – the love of another human being. Someone who would love her in a way she had so missed. But was her soul truly worth that? If anything the girl felt confused, terrified, and hollow, a mixture of emotions that faded into each other, one flaring up as the other died. Guilt. That was in there too, the guilt of what she had done, and underlaying tone of emotion to the tumult of feeling inside her chest, much like the base in her favourite song – not always fully acknowledged, but constantly there.
She heard the door slam as Leo left and lay there for another few minutes before reaching across to the little stool serving as a bedside table and grabbed her phone. She pressed a button and the screen flared to life and for another minute or two, Prim wondered whether it was worth it. But the other girl was one of the closest things she had to a friend other than Leo, and there was little chance of the girl telling him all about her deal with the devil – at least not any time soon.
After all, there where secrets that even best friends kept from each other.
Finally, Primrose Thatcher rang the number most recently added to her phone and left a message before curling back up in the centre of her bed. She had no idea of the girl was going to ring back, or if she might simply ignore it. But – she would have to wait and see.
Please leave a message, after the tone. *beep* ”Umm... Hi.. Simi? It’s Prim. I was... wondering if i might talk to you.... I mean, if you’re not too busy. It’s not urgent or anything, so don’t worry, i just kinda need someone to talk too. Never mind. Ignore me. Bye...” . *beep*

Finally.
After a week of chasing her tail and spinning in ever loving circles, Simi finally found herself at a place where she could think half way rationally.
Damn, had it really been a week now since her world had come tumbling down? Since that cold Christmas eve night when everything had turned into a nightmare? Just the thought of it made her heart try to seize in her chest and she forced herself not to dwell on the "what ifs" and "could have beens."
Thank god for Tessa and her ability to sweep a person away with her silliness. She didn't know WHAT she would have done without her. She definitely owed her a big one. That was for sure. She didn't know how she'd ever repay it but she would definitely be there for her friend if she ever had any need of her.
Even now, the other woman was crashed out in one of the guest rooms at the James family penthouse after driving all the way from New Orleans on a "Girls Road Trip" as they'd fondly taken to calling it.
Which, would have been a lot of fun if Simi hadn't felt like either throwing up or crying 99% of the trip. Good god. It was probably a wonder that the poor woman hadn't left her sitting on the side of the road somewhere with all her gloom and doom.
Shaking her head at the thought, Simi glanced down at her open cell and frowned as she again tried Prim's number and it went straight to voicemail. That had been happening ever since she'd gotten her funny message somewhere about Kentucky. She was starting to get seriously worried by the time they'd arrived in New York City but had been to exhausted to think about searching her out last night.
This morning though, was different. This morning, Simi had decided that it was time she stopped being a poop and started worrying about someone else besides herself so... Here she was. Standing on her friends doorstep and scowling like a fiend.
Why the hell wasn't she answering her phone? It was bloody cold out here and she didn't want to be gone forever because her father was suppose to be flying in this morning and he'd promised her a serious talk.
Just then, another renter of the apartment arrived and laughingly let her inside the building. Thanking him profusely, Simi took the stairs two at a time until she reached Prim's level and then hurried down the haul. Pausing outside her door, she raised a hand and knocked as if the hounds of hell were on her hells.
"PRIMROSE?? YOU IN THERE?? OPEN UP MISSY!! SOMEONES GOT SOME SPLAININ TO DO!!"

Prim had worried about Simi ignoring her phone call – but within a few hours she had reversed the tables and started ignoring Simi’s phone calls instead, panicking about what she had done, what she had said. Should she tell Simi? Should she dump this on the other girl’s shoulders along with everything else? Prim did not think it fair – she had grown up living by the mantra that you cleaned up your own mess. She hadn’t even told Leo for god’s sake, though he had started to notice something was up – keeping the damned secret was starting to eat away at her little by little. She’d been spending all her free time in one of three places, at the library researching deals with demons, looking into souls and trying to see if anyone had ever got out of a deal, or she had been at uni barely listening to her lectures. If she wasn’t there she was here, keeping out of Leo’s way save his probing questions. But even she was starting to realise that she could not ignore the other girl forever – if nothing else, she might have some answers.
Now was one of the days she had been avoiding Leo, either by conveniently being in the bath or asleep – now she was locked away in her room and she had no idea whether that blonde boy of hers was even in the apartment anymore, too involved in the stack of books she had managed to get out of the library. Eventually, she heard the front door slam (that boy never learned to just close doors) and she got up, stretching out the cramp in her neck and shoulders. Gah – the burns on her back and legs often tightened when she was sat still for too long, or if she forgot to moisturise them, and right now they were being a pain in the ass. Grabbing her books, she moved into the living room and put them beside an old beaten up sofa, pacing up and down as she re-read a passage about souls in one of the old volumes she had taken out form the library.
Banging on her apartment door however soon brought Primrose Thatcher out of her dream world. Padding barefoot the short distance to the old wooden entrance, she turned the knob and looked surprised, several different emotions flashing across her features until she managed to get them under control. ”Simi!” Glancing around, she stood aside to let the other woman in, chewing on her lip.

She had DEFINITELY left the building on this one. If her friend didn't hurry up and open this door, she felt like she might just become like the big bad wolf and huff and puff till she blew the door in!
Luckily, that didnt end up being neccessary.
And if Simi thought SHE felt like hell?? Prim took it to a whole nother level.
"Damn, girl... I leave you alone a couple weeks and you look as if you've lost your last friend?? What the hell is going on with you?? Whats with the criptic message and then not answering your phone?? do you have ANY idea how worried I've been??" she practically shouted before storming through the door her friend held open and dropping her bag to the floor. Turning back with her hands on her hips, the little blond practically tapped her foot with impatience."Well, start talking, babe.... Something bad must have happened or you wouldn't be avoiding my eyes....."
Then, realizing that she was probably scaring the poor girl to death, she tried to tone things done.
"God.. I'm sorry... Things haven't been real great on my end either so please excuse my manners.. I've just been really worried about you...Whats going on?? Talk to me... Maybe I can help...."
Moving forward, she pulled Prim in for a hug and waited for the story to unfold. She didn't have a clue what was up but she knew that whatever it was... Her friend had her support.

Prim closed the door behind the other, older girl with a soft click. She was still surprised that Simi had even come here, all the way to New York simply because she had not picked up the phone – it was enough to create a lump of hard wood in the girl’s throat, to fill her doe eyes with moisture that she refused to let spill over her cheeks. She was beginning to realise even more how wrong a thing she had done – how she possibly already had the very thing she had always longed for but had been too blind to see what lay in front of her eyes. There were many ways she realised to be loved, without someone having to tell you such things every day, without promises of eternal kinship or whatever her romantic heart had once longed for. She may have only few friends, but they held a dear spot in her heart, and perhaps she thought as she glanced at Simmi tapping her foot, perhaps she held one in theirs as well.
However, when the other girl pulled her into a hug it was too much for Prim to handle, and she started crying, sobbing in the other girl’s arms. Everything that had built up in the last week or so had finally gotten to her, and now it poured over the top in a wave of silent tears and prim Clung to Simone James as if her very life depended on it. She had done a stupid, idiotic and terrible thing, given away everything that she could hold more dear in a single stupid night to a Demon who had sweet talked her way into her life, and changed it forever.
It took prim a moment to calm down enough to speak around the lump growing ever bigger in her throat, and she pulled away, brushing at her eyes with the heel of her hand. ”Oh, simmi”She hiccupped, not the most attractive thing in the world right then, what with her puffy eyes and bedraggled hair, but for once Prim did not care about what she was wearing (not that people would suggest she did normally, but in truth her attire was carefully picked, if a little strange) ”I’ve... i.. I should have listened to you, ... i should have done what you said... but I’ve done something terrible... i’m so stupid...”

Well, this certainly wasn't what she'd been expecting when she'd come over here. Honestly, Simi had only figured it was something like a bad grade at the end of terms or denial into vet school. Something minorly major that could be chalked up to a life experience but worked around.
This though.. This seemed like something more than a mere bad exam or a flirtation gone wrong. She didn't think she'd ever seen her friend in this sort of state before and it was disconcerting to say the least. What on earth could possible have gone wrong in the last two weeks since she'd spoken to the pretty little vet student?
First things first though.
Steering the young woman to the small little kitchen, Simi pushed her down on a stool and moved to the coffee pot. Staring at it for a moment, she decided to by pass it and began to search the cupboards instead. Knowing her friend like she did.. There was bound to be some tea in there somewhere.
Sure enough, there it was! THANK GOODNESS!
Working quickly, the slender blond soon had a pot of tea perking and a plate of shortbread cookies between them from her own bag. All the while, she watched her friend carefully and patted her back every now and again. Once the tea was ready, she poured them each a cup and then sat down across from her. Then, and only then, did she broach the subject.
"All right, Prim..... What exactly is it that I warned you about and what did you do??? Surely it can't be that bad... Whatever it is we can work through it.... But you've got to tell me what it is first, hon...."

She sat almost catatonic on the stool, staring at a crack in one of the floor tiles whilst Simi bustled around her. She knew know she had to tell the blonde everything, but it didn’t make anything at all easier for the tiny brunette who looked frailer than she had ever before managed. She barely noticed the appearance of a plate of shortbread, barely registered much in fact until a mug of warm ea was being pressed into her hands. Her finger closed instinctively, leeching the warmth from porcelain back into her hands. Since the night at the graveyard Prim had been cold – though whether she was actually chilly or if the feelings were a result of her mindset she didn’t know.
If she had to guess though, she would say the latter.
Prim looked up, and tried a half hearted smile in the other girl’s direction – but the expression was empty. Prim’s eyes might as well have been dead, for they lacked the sparkle of the girl that was there before. She straightened, and again brushed at her eyes through fear of escaped tears, and took a deep breath, swallowing the anxiety that was practically malleable in her throat.
”I’m Sorry Simmi... I didn’t mean... I don’t want to dump this on you... It’s not fair and it’s my own mess, I have to sort it out myself i know.... but I have to tell someone – it’s driving me insane.” her fingers trembled as she held the cup, and Prims eyes glanced about as if he might able to hear her, might be able to see her. ”You... You told me not to trust Deus but/... I couldn’t help myself.”She swallowed again, looking everywhere but at the girls face, and again settling on the cracked tile. She spoke next in a small, quiet voice. ”I sold him my soul... I slept with him and i sold him my soul...”Once again, a tear rolled of the edge of her nose, committing suicide as it plunged to the tiled floor.

To say that you could have heard a pin drop after Prim's little announcement would have been understating the matter. For a long moment, the slender blond could only stare at her friend and wonder if this was someones idea of a sick joke and her ears had been decieving her. Surely her friend hadnt just said the words she thought she'd just said. Surely she hadn't just told her that she'd slept with some demon dude, much less sold her soul to him.
Had she?
Fuck a Duck. She SO had.
WHAT THE HELL WAS UP WITH PEOPLE IN HER LIFE THESE DAYS? Where they all so intent on riding themselves of their pesky souls that they'd sell it to the first damned hellspawn that came along? Ok, so maybe that wasn't fair but Simi was agast at what she was hearing and she wanted to reach across the space separating them and shake the other woman for her stupidity.
Really?? First Ryder and now Prim?? Who next? Her brother? Her Mother? A cousin?
If she didn't know better, she'd swear this was the angel's way from above of getting even with her for her mixed blood. "Hey, lets just take the ones around the little halfling that mean the most to her and it will torment her so well that she'll loose her ever loving mind!" Boy howdy, if that had been true.. They might very well have been on the right track!
Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you looked at it, Simi wasn't nearly so self absorbed as to believe that nattering. Logically, she knew it didn't have anything to do with her but.. Damn, it sure felt personal right now. How the hell was she suppose to deal with all this at one time? It was going to be hard enough to break Ryder out of his deal, much less two deals in one lifetime. She had no idea how the hell she was suppose to react or to even deal with the facts being laid before her.
Damn it. She knew she hadn't wanted to get out of bed this morning.
Taking a deep breath finally, Simi opened the sapphire eyes she'd closed at the end of Prim's tale and stared at her friend with a detached expression that hid her inner turmoil.
"How long, Prim? How long do you have?"she spoke with a quiet, controlled voice that harnessed a boat load of power. "What did he promise you in return and have the terms of the contract been fulfilled yet?"

If Prim had known about any of this, she would not have even dreamt about bringing it up to Simmi – the young blonde had enough on her plate as it was without heaping Prims troubles on the top – Prim could almost feel the stress radiating off of her and it did absolutely nothing to help the guilt prim felt. She wished she could rewind time and never make the phone call, but as it was, as she sat cradling her cup, there was very little she could do about it now – very little but tell the other girl everything. It would not be fair to hold it back now after all, even if the actual terms of her deal, her deepest desire, was one of such... well. It was hard to describe why prim would want such a thing, if you came from a family who loved you unconditionally – for Prim such a thing was so far a distant memory she was not sure if it had ever existed much at all.
She stared into the light brown pool of liquid before her and watched as the rippled spread out from the edge into the centre, clashing against each other and making the tea choppy, all a result of her still trembling fingers. Finally, after a pause from Simmi’s words, she looked up again and wiped the tears from her face with the back of her hand. Those words were not ones that could easily be ignored, even if Prim had wished too, but it still took a calming breath to stop her voice from shaking as she told her.
”I... I’m not sure.”She said, for truly that was the only answer she had for her at this moment, for unlike most demon deals, there was not a set number of years on her contract. ”He said... I had the rest of my life... so however long that is. ”Who knew then, for surely it could be another fifty years... maybe it could be nothing more than a few days – no one truly had a way of knowing the answer to these questions – if she had known about the contracts other demons made, perhaps she would have preferred a time scale on how long she had felt. She was almost certain that that was what she would prefer...
Again, Prims eyes found the crack in the floor. It felt so silly saying what she had next to Simi – so very different form the easy way Deus had coaxed it from her lips. It rang in her ears, and prim was ashamed.”Love...”She said quietly. ”He asked me what my deepest desire was... and I told him to be loved.”

OH yeah.. this just kept getting better and better.
Staring at her friend with what she hope was some sibilance of "Hey! Supportive Friend Here!" manner, Simi resisted the urge to just bury her face in her palms. It wouldn't do any good anyways and she'd never been one to run away from reality.
Er... Well, not USUALLY anyways. If you didn't count the little escape manuever she'd managed to pull Christmas Day as she'd fled her house and all responsiblity for the going ons there.
But never mind that now. It wasn't important at the moment. What was important was figuring out this mess. Prim was obviously in a world of trouble and although Simi had NO clue as to what she was supposed to be doing about it... Well, it was just as obvious that SOMETHING had to be done.
"All right. So... For the moment, we don't have to worry about any hell hound or demon showing up to claim your soul. Since there's no point in dwelling on that part of things until we have too, I think the first thing you should do is quite moping. Whats done is done and there's no use crying over spilled milk. The deal is seal and although I could really kick your hinny for not taking my warning seriously... Well, Its best we just figure out a plan from here. I happen to know some people who.. um... specialize in this sort of thing so let me talk to some of them and see if there is anything we can do.... Meantime... You need to eat, shower and get yourself into something resembling a fashionable outfit .. cause girl... You look like hell... Just sayin!"
That said, Simi picked up her cup and took a long drink of her tea. As she waited for her friend to compute her words, her agile mind tried to come up with plans only to disguard them again. It was obviously going to be a tough situation but her first plan of action was to find out as much about this demon lover of Prims as possible.
"Then... We are going to go out and find some of that famous New York cheesecake I love and then we are going back to my place to wait for my dad to show up. I think that an afternoon of chick flicks and comfort foods is in order all around and I could use the help avoiding my dads questions anyways...."
