I'M NOT THE ONE WHOS SO FARAWAY WHEN I FEEL THE SNAKE BIT ENTER MY VEINS
It was a dark and stormy night.
The kind of night that every good horror started with and it matched AJ's mood perfectly as she stepped out of the black SUV. With a keen gaze that swept the street, there was something almost feral about her stance and the way she prowled forwards to the Cantina. Wind whipped out and tossed long ebony tresses about her face but it was the glitter in her dark eyes that lent true power to her petite form. Many a foe had lost their life by underestimating the small, almost dainty size of the female and those who were lucky enough to escape unscathed thanked their lucky stars.
The old sayign "Dynamite comes in small packages" definitely applied to the experience fighter her beauty hid.
Standing at only five foot and two inches, the tiny female was almost dwarfed by the huge men at her back but she didn't even seem to care as she threw open the door of the most notorious bar in the midwest and strode inside.
As the storm raged outside, a new one brewed within the she-wolf as she seethed over the information she'd just found out and her inner beast howled for blood. It was a barely suppressed need just below the surface of her skin but somehow, she managed to keep it hidden as she shook off the rain from her long black cloak and then raised her face to scan the crowd.
A quick glance around the room detailed a scene that set her mood to snapping even more. Had she not already been in bitch mode, the next events might have gone down differently but the sight that greeted her eyes made her inner wolf snarl and territorial instinct made her eyes narrow with ferocious wrath.
With an easy, slow stride that belied her inner turmoil, AJ gave a slight motion with her hands that signaled her own men to spread out around the room as she casually paced forward. Although she didn't completely trust the men Gabe allowed her to handpick from his crew, she knew each and every one were loyal to her lover. That, in and of itself, assured her they would do as directed.
Because the shit was about to hit the fan and AJ was relishing the coming fight.
But first? She had to deal with the bitch that was currently draping her no doubt disease ridden body all over HER man. Even as she approached, she saw the blonds eyes narrow at her with catty glee and it was all she could do to hold back the wolf that wanted to tear her to little bitty shreds.
MINE! she snarled inside. MY MATE. MINE
Coming within a few feet of the small group with Gabes back still to her, AJ allowed her eyes to take in the four men loitering nearby. Making a mental map of distances and positions, she smiled in a slow, cold, almost calculating manner before lifting her nose and sniffing the air. It was a motion that was all predator as she moved to square off directly with the woman trying to become a piece of Gabe's clothing.
"Well, well.... Look what the cat drug in... I smell.. Skank." she drawled out, giving the woman a dismissive look that rated her right down there with the filth on the floor. "Gabe, love.... had I known you were that... desperate for companionship... I'm sure that I could have found you something much ... fresher... This one isn't even a decent meal...."
Hissing in outrage, the woman did exactly as AJ predicted and launched herself at the smaller brunette. With a move that would have done her spec ops father proud, AJ had her pinned against the bar with a silver blade pressed to the slender throat that gulped almost audibly.
"Bitch." the blond choked out, earning a firmer press of the blade and drawing a thin red line of crimson on her fair skin.
"Yes... I am... Quiet literally..." the ebony haired beauty whispered into her ear. "And next time I catch you touching whats mine?? I will slit your throat and watch you bleed out here on this floor.... No one.. and i mean.. NO ONE touchs whats mine....."
Then, pushing away from the woman, AJ wiped her blade off on the whores shirt before negligently turning her back upon her and facing Gabe. As she did so, her own guards drew in closer and another cold smile spread over her face even as she took in his expression and tilted her head.
"Wolfman... It seems I can't leave you alone for a minute without some kind of trouble finding your door....." she said in a tone that was light and teasing even though her eyes were hard as stone. "Don't you know that a female like that can be used as a distraction as another plans to slip a blade into your gut? Whatever did you do before me?"
Even as she spoke, she moved forward and lightly positioned herself in between the two men at Gabes back and made her lover shift so that his back was to the bar instead of them. She saw the wolf in his eyes bit back the urge to strike out at her words but she let a warning light flash briefly for him to see. Behind her, she felt hte two men shift uneasily and knew they were exchanging glances between them. The predator in her licked its lips in glee.
"Oh yes..... Its funny how well those closest to you get to know your habits.... and how much those habits are worth to the right buyer." she continued to drawl, reaching and picking up a still full whiskey glass before tossing it back and gazing into her relection.
"Isn't that right, Eddie?" she asked calmly.
Quicker than a blink, the man on the right launched himself at her. Smiling in satisfaction, AJ felt as if time had shifted down to milliseconds as she watched him in what seemed like slow motion in the glass. At the last second, she felt her hand change and the tumbler shattered even as she spun and caught the traitor by his throat. Not allowing him time to use his much bigger mass as a weapon, she allowed her extended claws to rip through the flesh and sever his neck from his shoulders. As blood spurted everywhere, she tossed the body aside and sprang for the other idiot who was frozen in mid leap. His eyes registered disbelief just before her claws ripped into his chest and tore his heart from his body.
"This is a warning for all those who betray us..."she snarled right before she tossed the still beating heart upon the floor and watched the lifeless body drop. Her gleaming eyes then went over every man and woman in the place before her voice continued in a snarl. "Make no mistake that I am just the Wolfman's play toy.... I can and will kill anyone who crosses me and I'll make the deaths here look like mercy killings...... Am I understood??"
When only silence answered her, AJ's voice rose to an almost howl.
"AM I UNDERSTOOD??? OR DO I HAVE TO KILL MORE OF YOU TO GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULLS??"

you heard that i was trouble , BUT YOU COULDN'T RESISTJ U S T T A K E A B I T E L E T M E S H A K E U P Y O U R W O R L D- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ”Girl, if you don’t get your fuckin’ hand outta my fuckin’ shirt, I’ma fuckin’ rip it off.”
Scowling at the wanna-be seductive pout that resulted in his words, Gabe eyed the blonde currently trying to get him naked in the middle of his bar. It was strange; on any other day, he would have probably taken the woman into his little back room and had his fun. He was known amongst those who frequented the Cantina as one who was always open to a party. He loved knocking back his booze, loved it when the ladies came onto him…and loved it even more when they did more than flirt.
Tonight was the first night he’d spent in the bar like he normally did, since that spitfire ex-Huntress came crashing into his world. For the few weeks that she’d been there, he’d spent most of his time teaching her how to be a wolf. Well…that is, when he wasn’t giving her a tour of his bed. It was very unlike him; putting his business second, and a stranger, first.
Sure, she was one HELL of a stranger, with that hard ass personality and teasing smile…but still, he was a man who lived for his reputation. He didn’t have time to play ‘boyfriend tour guide’ to a wolf just coming into her own.
And yet…there he’d been; pulling his boys off the street to serve as her personal guard, and letting his business be run by one of his more trusted human counterparts. He’d even gone so far as to allow the wolf to take reign, and during one of the meetings he’d had with his guys, when AJ had been off…doing whatever the hell she did, he’d put some of the rumors flying around the gang to rest.
He’d told them the truth about himself, about some of the killings back home in New York. And then he’d offered them a choice; remain human and stay loyal, or become a werewolf. It really wasn’t surprising how many of his men decided on the latter, and he’d complied with gusto. The wolf inside was practically prancing with the thought of making a pack of males devoted to him; of animals that he’d trained to be loyal to him from the get-go, rather than those he’d have to watch as they entered the ranks.
Those that had chosen the furry route had taken their licks and went to rest in the basement downstairs. Tonight had been everyone’s first night attempting to act normal, and he was proud to note that his boys were doing a fantastic job blending in. Sure, there were a few mishaps now and then, but they were handling themselves beautifully. God…he couldn’t have been prouder.
”Come on, baby…have a little fun,” The blond purred in his ear, rubbing her body up close to his. For a few minutes, he allowed the petting to go on; even opened his legs a bit where he was sitting at the bar, so that she could wiggle her way closer. The human side of him rebelled, for those few minutes, against the seemingly random bout of possessiveness that he felt toward the Huntress, and pined for what it was used to.
But when AJ came storming into the bar with her little ‘guard’ trailing after her, looking like a warrior goddess in her prime…all of THAT crap immediately died away. Amusement lit up his eyes as the girl was immediately ripped from his front and bashed against the bar.
And there he’d been doubting his attraction to his mate. What an idiot his human side was, sometimes.
”I supposed I just survived,” He drawled in reply. ”I would ask if that was necessary…but I suppose if our roles were reversed, I wouldn’t have been so merciful.”
Sliding off his stool with feral grace, he began to pull his woman into his arms…but froze at the warning look she threw him. What the fuck was going on? A growl bubbled in his chest as he eyed her, then the man she was talking to. He didn’t like it when his gang troubles were being touched by someone other than himself. He’d have to get used to having a partner.
Eddie, Gabe thought, a dark cloud forming over his face. He was one of the guys who’d chosen not to turn werewolf…one of the newer guys whom some of the men professed to not trusting. He wanted to ask what AJ was getting at, but before he could, the fight was on…and then Eddie was dead. Good riddance to bad trash, but…fuck, did AJ even realize what she’d just done?
For as long as he could remember, Gabe had worked alone. He’d fought alone, protected himself and built up his little ‘empire’ of blood and bones…alone. His men answered only to him and his sometimes warped sense of judgement; he’d never allowed anyone else’s opinions to impact his own. And yet, with one little show of violence and the threat of dismemberment, the little woman- still a stranger to him, really- had claimed the throne next to his. He should have been enraged. He should have been shocked, irritated and defensive.
And yet…all he felt was pride. Raw, animal pride.
Moving to stand next to her, Gabe raked his men with a dangerous glare. ”What? Are you guys waiting for a special invitation?” He snarled. ”Answer her. Do you understand?”
And, in that moment, the one-time Huntress became the Alpha Female of their little hodge-podge pack.

I'M NOT THE ONE WHOS SO FARAWAY WHEN I FEEL THE SNAKE BIT ENTER MY VEINS
God, when had she become so volatile? On some level, AJ's rational self looked out of her dark eyes and flinched at what she'd done. The blood and gore that littered the floor and dripped from her hand would have disgusted anyone with half a brain but she found herself strangely unaffected. Maybe not to strangely though seeing as she'd put more than a few baddies out of their miseries as a human but... This... this was different.
This was cold blooded, premeditated murder of men whom dared to plot against what was hers. This was brutality on a level that she'd never dreamed herself capable of and the fact she'd done it without so much as a flinch when her bare claws had ripped through a freaking chest cavity?? It should have been enough to set her back.
But it didn't.
Instead, the beast inside raised its muzzle and howled with the need for more. It paced restlessly and made her body shudder with the suppressed adrenaline that rode her system hard. It watched and waited for one wrong move.. One signal that would unleash the wolf inside and tear through the defiance like a silver blade.
And then the she wolf felt her mate move.
Instantly, it gave deference to the male but didn't lower its savage gaze from the others. It wanted no one to mistake her for one of his little play things and it demanded its due.
It made AJ wanna smack it around and ask it if it was actually that insane.
Unfortunately, she already KNEW that answer. LIke any female in heat, it had scented and claimed the strongest male in the territory and it wasn't about to give ground to some punny human emotion called rationality.
His words only made the beast happier and she saw the meaning of them sink into the minds around them. Suddenly, the shewolf's toothy smile spread over her very human lips and more than one man stumbled back in haste to put more distance between them.
They were obviously terrified of her. Didn't that just make her all Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy inside?
As chorus's rose around them, the ebony haired beauty took it with regal air before relaxing a tad. Turning slightly, she lifted her chin and reached into her pocket, pulling out a packet of photos, bank statements and security footage that she then offered him with a fury that was only just banked. The envelope held everything Gabe would need to convict the others involved to the latest assassination attempt on his life.
"It looks like our mutual friend has been seeking to step up his game, Wolfman... He's no longer content to come after you himself... Instead hes making promises and taking chances that are going to get him caught..... "
Tilting her head a bit in a slightly submissive show that rankled as much as it was neccessary, she gritted her teeth and fought to control the energy still pulsing through every fiber of her being.
"He needs to die... and soon.... An example of what happens to someone who has the stupidity to oppose you should be a good show, don't you think??"
Then, as if she hadn't just muttered something so intense, she turned back to the bar and picked up a bottle.
"And now I need a drink..... The taste of that bastards blood in my mouth is enough to make me sick...."
