• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • UNABLE TO MAKE sense of the overwhelming flood of emotion and feelings that she could neither name or place, Prim pushed them away into a locked box for closer examination and dissection later, not dissimilar to the boxes she had built in her mind over her lifetime to hold the other memories and feelings she did not wish to dwell upon; though to say that some of these were gathering dust within the confines of the slight girls mind was to say that her hair was blonde. Obvious and unneeded, especially if you then factored in the more recent revelations and worries that was taking preference over these older problems, problems to ingrained that they had moulded the very girl you saw before you.
Maybe she really should think about getting in touch with her therapist once she got home, actually pick up the phone rather than just glace at the phone number tacked to her bedroom wall.
Still, she had no idea why the thought of Leo getting married to this random fairytale woman managed to do that to her, made her heart sink and her chest hurt with a pain that had no reason being there, no reason existing, but the blonde simply reminded herself that this entire world was rather messed up, that nothing here could really be taken too seriously. She knew better than most that Leo was not the picket fence, two kids and a golden retriever type.
So was she surprised when she heard the cries outside and the screams coming from Leo’s bride to be? Nope. But she couldn’t help the small grin that stole across her lips when she saw him being carried inside, nor the little tap dance her heart decided to play against her ribcage. Damn it. She was glad then that, despite them once more being at close quarters, Caleb was looking the other way until she managed to get the dopey grin from her face.
What Prim was not prepared for next however was the sudden movement of location, nor the thick fog that seemed intent on forcing its way down her throat, only to be replaced by fur as Prim found herself surrounded by cloaks made entirely of the stuff. PETA would have a field day if they saw this.
Thrashing around and twisting as she fought off her long dead assailants, prim yelped as she burst through from the darkness of the wardrobe and out onto the hard floors of a bedroom she vaguely thought looked familiar. Landing on her back, winded and with her head spinning from the pleasant, although choking thick smog that had surrounded them, prim took a moment to detangle herself from the garments and climb t her feet, glaring at Caleb unconvincingly. ”Bibbity bobbity boo?” She asked, her hands snaking onto her hips as she looked down at him. ”Really?” Unable to help herself she laughed, offering a hand to help him to his feet. ”I never would have pegged you for a Disney fan, Caleb.” She teased him as she glanced around the room. Yes. She knew this room, she’d been here earlier – her suspicions were confirmed of course when she spotted Leo on the bed. Forgetting that she was supposed to be helping Caleb to his feet, Prim ran over to sit at his head, leaning over him slightly to shake his shoulders. ”Come on Leo. Wake up. We need to get out of here.” She said softly as attempted to rouse him into waking.

Throwing up his hands in defeat, Caleb managed a strangled, ”I don’t fuckin’ know! It just came out!” before he bent forward to take some calming breaths. He was freaking, she was freaking, Leo had just passed out in front of hundreds of viewers…damn, but the day was really taking a cheap detour into complete FUBAR territory, and fast!
And while the ex-con was freaking out and muttering to himself, wondering why every time he swung his arms too much, random pieces of furniture were turning themselves into potted plants, Leo was in his own little world on the bed. He would have been fine passing out, but after having hit his hard head on the floor, and having one of the guard walk his face into the doorjam, the witch was having a hard time coming back to reality. He could dimly hear the sounds of his childhood friend cursing random inanimate objects and if he concentrated enough, he could feel Prim’s small hands on his face.
Mmm, that was nice. It brought up all kinds of memories; especially of the night he’d awoken her from her nightmare. She’d been so sweet, so damn good…that in the end, when he’d wrapped his arms around her and held her against his chest, he’d actually wanted to cry. Like a damn girly-baby, he wanted to…well, he wanted things that he just couldn’t have. That he just wasn’t built for.
Nevertheless, it was her voice that he clung to as he slowly floated back to consciousness. With a groan, he turned his head away from the pounding pain, only to realize that it was IN his head. Cracking his eyes open, he looked up at Prim, then at Caleb, who was currently dancing around in a small circle as one of said potted plants grew teeth and nipped at his heels.
Okaaaaay…
”Keep shaking me, and I swear I’m gonna barf on you,” He rasped, before he could come up with something witty. Grimacing in pain, he pushed himself up and glanced around the room. ”Hell, I was hoping that that was all a dream. Prim…I was getting MARRIED! To a freaking Bridezilla! WHAT’S GOING ON HERE?!”

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • IT SEEMED LIKE A LIFETIME had passed before Leo opened his eyes, a lifetime spent trying to ignore the man to her left playing with his new magic tricks, a lifetime trying to lull the dark haired man beneath her into consciousness so that the three of them could get out of this hell hole for once and for all, and when he finally opened his eyes, Prim could of kissed him.
In fact, she did, laying her lips briefly on his forehead before he sat up, a small smile of triumph on her lips at the fact she had gotten him to open those damned pools he called eyes. And anyway? What was with all the men around her getting bashed over the head and winding up unconscious? She thought the fairy stories usually went the way of her getting to be the damsel in distress, rescued from the tower by her dashing prince; not the other way around?
Deciding that the moment where her best friend had just woken up and a grey haired irish magician was playing footise with a plant plot was not the best one to be dwelling on the unfairness of that particular situation, prim let the thought go to the wind and float out the slightly ajar window into the noise coming from the courtyard. She could only presume that it was about the interruption of Leo’s wedding, but she couldn’t help but wonder how long before they crowds rage turned to the dungeons escaped prisoners.
”Well, if that isn’t the warm welcome i was hoping to receive?” She smiled, letting him sit up and drawing back from him, sitting on the edge of the bed and watching Caleb with his new pet for a second before turning her blonde framed gaze back to his. For some reason, since the night he had saved her from her own nightmares, prim had little trouble meeting his eyes with her own.
”I know Leo, we were watching, from a window. And you got the thing about Bridezilla down... her mother’s a real witch too.” She grumbled, rubbing her arms where the guards had grabbed her earlier. The grip had probably bruised her skin, but with everything else going on she had had little time to think of it. ”Come on... let’s rescue Caleb from the furniture, and get the next boat outta here, before she drags you downstairs for round two.”

Well, talk about the kiss of a maiden managing to wake a guy up. Even though he was freaking out inside, as memories of his ‘wedding’ started to come back to him, he couldn’t help but feel a little tingle where her lips had met his forehead. Had he always felt this way around her? The question echoed a bit, shushing the other ‘OH MY GOD’ voices currently having a field day around his eardrums. Had he always known that Prim would be the one girl who would make him think twice about his lifestyle? Was that why he never went after her, like he did every other thing in a miniskirt? She’d always been the quiet frield; the one he’d go to before anyone else in his life, even Caleb. She was the silid one, the girl he knew would always be there for him, no matter what.
Did he always know that she’d be the end? Somewhere, deep down…had he known?
Blinking, Leo found himself turning back to their current situation as a loud curse sounded. Looking over Prim’s shoulder again, his jaw dropped a bit as he saw Caleb waving his arm around, trying to dislodge the potted plant currently attacked there. Turning back to Prim, he let his shocked gaze lock on hers. ”Okay, if you’re not gonna say it, I will; how’s that for Karmatic justice?”
”Screw you both! Someone-bibity- help me before I- bobbity- blow something up by- bibity—WHY CAN’T I STOP SAYING THAT?!”
Pushing himself off the bed, he waved his hand at his friend. ”Shut up, you idiot! If one of the guards outside hears you, it’s endgame from here,” Turning back to Prim when she spoke, he ducked his head instinctively when she mentioned the Bridezilla. Man, that didn’t even BEGIN to describe the crazy chick, with her whining and the way the dresses had to match the tablecloth…UGH! After he’d been torn away from Prim, he’d had to listen to her go on for HOURS, and the ledge of the Palace walls had started to look pretty appetizing.
”I wouldn’t be surprised. You’re right; we’ve gotta get out of the Palace before someone forces me to marry a complete stranger. Have you guys found anywhere we can hole up? Or a secret exit somewhere?” Yanking the plant from Caleb’s arm while he spoke, he tossed the snapping thing out the window and picked up a candlestick from the bedside table. A quick peek through the bedroom door showed only one guard, and with one mighty thwack…the coast was suddenly clear.
Without waiting to be asked, Caleb helped drag the guard through the door and the two hid him under the bed. That done, Leo took Prim’s hand and started for the hallway.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • FOR A MOMENT the only thing Prim Thatcher, the Cinderella look alike wanted to know was how the hell to two of them were so damned synchronised. For a long moment it as all she could do to stand and watch the two of them (and kick one of the snapping plant pots away from her ankles) and try and figure out just what they had been up to in high school to be able hide a body so efficiently - but as they finished rolling the unconscious guard under the bed Prim decided that in actuality, she didn’t want to know.
Kicking another plant pot away, Prim was seriously contemplating finding some duct tape to tape Calebs mouth together when Leo grabbed her hand and pulled her out into the hallway.
Gah – why did that simple motion make her heart jump into her throat and her breath catch? Why the hell did her hand tighten round his, in case she lose it? What she had done that night had apparently opened a floodgate of un-explained emotion that Prim was not ready to deal with – was not prepared to cope with what she presumed to be the inevitable conclusions; but pushing it back behind her walls was getting progressively harder. At least now she could concentrate on making her feet move, and at least try and ignore them until they got out of here.
And then she would find herself a nice bottle of wine – hot running water, and drown them.
Hallways, doors, vast gold ornaments – they all passed in a blur as the three of them ran. The small part of Prim brain that as bothered with culture and romanticism wept at the speed in which they passed the wonders of the palatial architecture, but luckily for her the vast majority of her mind was pre-occupied with their escape. But even prim knew that dressed as they where – Caleb and Leo anyway, it was going to be sorta hard to get past guards and the public unnoticed. Generals attire and long flowing grey robes were not exactly every day street wear.
After what must have been the hundredth near miss they’d had with a guard, Prim Tugged on Leo’s hand and urged him to slow down, pulling both Caleb and Leo into one of the palaces many little sheltered alcoves and hidey holes, finding herself once more at close quarters with the two of their chests. Why the hell was she so small anyway?! And where the hell were a goddamn pair of heels when you needed them?
Breathing a little heavily, Prim told them the idea that had just flew into her head. ”I don’t think we're going to get out of here with the two of you dressed as you are – you’re kind of easy to spot. But... ” Prim chewed her lip a second and looked between the two of them. ”You’re both er... magical here right? Maybe you could... zap yourselves or something so that you’ll blend in a little more – we might be able to sneak out a little easier...?” Now that she had said it, Prim realised just how silly her idea was sounding, and turned her gaze away from the dark haired mans in front of her, and instead stared at the floor.

”Jesus—bibity—Christ, you’d think that the entire frikken Fairytale Army was in the damn—bobbity—Palace for your shindig, Leo.”With a growl over his shoulder as Prim yanked them into yet another hidden alcove, Leo watched a few of said guards march smartly down the hall. Letting his head lean back against the wall behind him, he took a few deep, calming breaths to calm his now pounding heart. There was a tingling in his fingertips that had started once Prim shook him awake and is seemed that, as his blood pressure proceeded to climb thanks to anxiety…well, now his arms were going into that happy territory. Gritting his teeth against the annoying feeling, he flexed his fingers, doing his best not to freak out. He had to think of something; take his mind off of the ‘oh my God, we’re gonna get caught and I’m gonna get married to Godzilla!’ situation before this was a magical place that they were in; what if whatever powers he had were being activated? Okay, so that sounded really Mortal Combat, but…ARGH! As if the day couldn’t get any fuckin’ worse— Okay, breathe, Leo, breathe; he told himself firmly. Who cares if Caleb wasn’t the only Fairy Godmother around? At least he didn’t have the old lady grey hair, or the dress-robes—which Caleb was NOT going to hear the end of, once they got back to reality. He had to take his mind off things, and concentrate on something else. On…something like the pretty face currently tilted up at him. Letting his head drop down from the wall, his eyes traveled over Prim’s face. There was a smudge on her cheek and her hair was sticking up in places, thanks to the static electricity of his wedding wear…but it was her eyes that really snagged him. Damn, had he ever really looked into them? He’d never realized that they had specks of brown and blue. It was like looking into a kaleidoscope…man, and that didn’t even cover what else he saw in them. He’d always made fun of those romantics who said that looking into a woman’s eyes was mesmerizing. But now? Woo mama, now he really got what they were saying. And then the realization that she was pressed up against his chest in just the right way had him thinking about other things. Bye, bye, blood! Have fun on your trip down Southward! His head drooped lower a tad as his eyes then traveled down to her lips. She was saying something, given the way that they were moving…and Caleb was shuffling around in their alcove, but his senses were a bit dulled by the sudden need to steal a kiss. It was highly inappropriate, given their current situation…but damn, she was beautiful in the half-dark. From his vantage point behind Prim, Caleb was now peering out into the hallway. It seemed clear enough, but after running around the maze-like halls for what seemed like forever, he’d come to realize that those guards were tricky bastards. Pulling his head back into the alcove, he practically glared at Prim. ”Well, you can—bibbity—frikken count me out of the ‘poofing’ crap. Don’t you remember what happened the LAST time I—bobbity—tried that? And now that I can’t seem to stop myself from going completely—bibbity—Fairy Godmother, I wouldn’t trust my ‘powers.’ For all we know, I could wave my arms and turn you into a goat.”Turning to his friend, Caleb was about to ask ‘what about you,’ when he caught the look on his face. Okay…now that was definitely creepy. He was all about the kink, but a threeway in the hall when they were being pursued by magical guards pushed the envelope a bit too far. ”Really, Leo? Dude, concentrate!”Blinking, Leo did just that. Okay, so this was a bit awkward…because with how Prim was pushed up against him, she had to be knowing where his mind had just turned. Turning beet red, he cleared his throat softly and started fidgeting. Then he realized it. He was tingling…which meant only one thing. ”Holy shit, I’m tingling!” He exclaimed, eyes shooting back to Prim’s face. Caleb groaned. ”Holy shit, I didn’t need to know that.””Shut up, you fool. Prim, I’m tingling! Look!” Holding up a hand, he revealed the shaking in his fingers. ”Guys…when I tingle, there’s something magical around. Maybe it can get us the hell out of here!”

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • THE WAY HE WAS LOOKING at her should be illegal. More than that it should be.... oh god dammit she didn’t know what. But he shouldn’t be allowed. Whilst staring intently at the floor she was all too aware of the gaze burning into her head, and the way she was pressed against him. And... oh god.. was that? Was that what she thought it was? Damn, it was her turn for her cheeks to turn to red, and she was glad for the interrupting voice of the man behind her. Even if she was somewhat sandwiched between the two, and she really, really wanted to take a step back from Leo right then – save them both the red faced-ness.
... Even if he did keep saying bibbity. Every time he said it, Prim was expecting something to happen, and in all fairness she would not be surprised if she did end up as a goat. Or a tail. Or knowing Caleb’s mind from high school, bunny ears and fishnets if he had any sort of control over his current turrets like syndrome. She almost let out an exasperated sigh at the thought, but then Leo grabbed her attention with his exclamation, and her red cheeks paled. Get out of here? Like actually get out of here?
Damn yes Prim was ready for this dream like hell to end. And she wanted her brown hair back. When he lifted his hand to reveal his trembling fingers, Prim took it in both her own to see if it was just nerves, if the trembling was being caused by something else; but no. Even in her grip she could feel his hand shaking, and had she had more room she would have started jumping for joy, possibly attempted a cartwheel. There was nothing more she wanted to do than crawl out of this hellhole and into her bed, and sleep for a week. Letting go of his hand, Prim tilted her blonde head up to his and wrapped both of her arms around his neck, before turning and doing the same to Caleb. It wasn;t quite jumping, but she felt the need to hug both of them.
”We’re getting out of here!” She laughed, only just remembering that she was supposed to be keeping her voice low. ”Wait... Do you know where it is? Like roughly?” She had no idea how he worked – whether it was like a metal detector and he’d what? Vibrate more as he got closer?

Okay seriously, his brain was starting to sound like Caleb’s, with all of those ‘OMFG SHE’S HAWT’ thoughts running around. He had much more important things to be concentrating on, than the fact that Prim was touching his goddamn hand, man! Like, for instance, the fact that he was hearing some armor clanking on the horizon, and if they didn’t get moving, they were going to get caught. Then, Prim and Caleb would either be locked up or executed.
And he would get married. Well…if anything, THAT definitely made his mind whip itself back into shape.
His insides felt like they were wiggling around and he had the urge to gag. When she dropped his hand, he pressed the palms to his eyes. Gah, but he fucking hated this freaking feeling. It was like he would just…come apart at any moment. If it wasn’t for the fact that he could act as a human GPS system, he’d have crawled into a corner and waited for the need to subside.
Surprise etched itself onto his face when Prim wrapped her arms around his neck. Warm fuzzies replaced the tingling feeling in his stomach, and the urge to dip his head down and steal a kiss was almost too much to resist. But then, thankfully, she moved on to Caleb, who threw him a big grin over her shoulder. It was even more disturbing how that simple show of emotion made him want to punch his friend in the face…but gah, now was definitely not the time to go soul searching down that particular path.
”I don’t know where exactly, but I know it’s close,” He said. Snagging hold of her hand, he tugged her into the hallway after another check and started moving…somewhere. The feeling in his gut got stronger and stronger, and his face got paler and paler as it culminated to one, major urge to find the nearest flowerpot and lose his lunch.
Finally, he stopped in front of a particularly old looking door and shoved it open. It was unlocked, thank God, and one step inside almost sent him down to his knees. Good fucking GOD, his insides were freaking swinging back and forth now, as disgusting as it sounded. Hooking an arm around his middle, he glanced around the room.
”Start looking…it’s in here somewhere. It might be something small, or really obvious.”
Caleb’s voice piped up, after the door closed behind them. ”You mean, like the creepy looking mirror hanging over the fireplace that’s giving us the evil eye?”
Spanning the entire length of the mammoth fireplace, said mirror, littered with dragon carvings, did seem to be looking at them quite crossly. Slipping behind Prim, Caleb gave her a slight push forward. ”Ladies first!”

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • THE NEXT FEW MOMENTS PASSED IN A BLUR. One minute Prim was hiding in an alcove sandwiched between a vibrating prince charming and a gangster version of the fairy godmother, and the next she was being pulled down the hall chasing the vibration in her best friends gut. More and more she was begging to wish this was all just a dream, that she would wake up and that would be the end of it – she had never been Cinderella, Caleb had never had grey hair, and Leo most certainly had never been about to marry a woman with a nose bigger than long island and feet the size of Nantucket. Yeah.... perhaps out of all of them in this situation, Leo was the one who was facing the more life changing predicament.
Either way, Prim wanted to get out of there.
Tugged into a room, Prim was thankful for the time she spent in the gym what with all the running around they were doing tonight, but she was still thankful for the breather, if not for the loss of Leo’s palmy embrace. Looking up at the mirror as Caleb pointed it out, her eyes widened, taking in the ornate carvings, the dragons who breathed fire around the frames. It was certainly sinister looking, enough so that she dug in her heels when Caleb pushed her forward, stumbling a few steps, and turning her head to glare at him.
”You big baby” She scowled at him, folding her arms just beneath her chest. Looking back to the mirror however, Prim took a step forward and quickly closed the expanse of floor between herself and the unlit fireplace, staring up into the shimmering expanse of the mirror. At first it just reflected back, and she started to turn, shrugging her shoulders, when something caught her eyes. Frowning, she stood on her tiptoes, and lifted her fingers to the glossy pane. She could see the alleyway they had been in earlier – and her eyes widened with the realisation. It was day now – but it was the same Alley.
”Leo! I can see the Alley!” She called turning her head to grin at the two of them as her fingers made contact with the pane. The smile soon faded however as her fingers slipped through the surface, and Prim was wrenched from her feet. ”LEO!!” The name left her lips as Prim rolled out onto the alley floor, falling heavily on her shoulder and rolling into the opposite wall, breathing heavily as she lay on her back and looked up into the sky. A quick search of her hand found her wearing the same clothes as had been the night before, Leather jacket and jeans... and a quick tug on one o her curls found it to be back to brown. She let out a sigh o relief, getting to her feet. She was home. But where was Leo? Caleb?

It was just something he had to do, he thought with a little grumble, blowing her a kiss when she turned to glare at him. For some reason, he just felt the irritable need to poke at her; to make fun and tease her until he was red in the face. Maybe it was because he knew there was something between her and Leo and resented it? Or was it ‘jealous of it?’
Either way, he decided that, from then on, the two of them would be seeing a lot more of his face. After getting out of the Pen, Leo HAD promised to meet up with him; help him get back on his feet. And while his friend had done just that, even going so far as to erase his prison record from his database file…the urge to stick around was pretty much ingrained in him just then.
He’d have to put off those ideas to head on over to California and get into some trouble there. The gangs and illegal industries could wait a few months, he decided. Prim and Leo needed somebody to watch their backs while they worked out…whatever was going on between them. And he’d gotten real good at all that, during his stint in prison. God knew that Barone had more enemies than fuckin’ God…
When Prim disappeared through the mirror, both men let out a surprised shout and bolted toward it. The dragons along the sides hissed and roiled, but the sight of the small girl moving around in the alleyway reflected in it had the ex-con practically charging right on through. Who cared if one of those annoying dragons bit him in the ass? HE COULD SMELL KANSAS, AUNTIE EM!
With a howl similar to Prim’s, though less concerned with Leo and more with ‘JESUS CHRIST!’ Caleb fell through the portal and back into their world. He lay on the concrete for a minute, breathing in the familiar smell of blacktop and gasoline, then jerked up with a laugh. He looked down at himself and the jean jacket he’d thrown on earlier that day, then up at Prim. Then, hopping to his feet, he pulled her up into a tight hug and turned to trot down the street.
”Let’s never fuckin’ do that again! Hey look, no bibbity’s! I’ll catch you later, sweetness. Tell your boyfriend I’ll be getting him back for that fuckin’ adventure!” And with that, he was gone.
About a minute later, Leo tumbled through the opening and scrambled to his feet. His first thought was ‘oh my God, am I still jet black’ and immediately started tugging on the short strands of his hair. At the sight of the regular blonde color, he sighed in relief, pulled Prim into his arms and gave her the kiss he’d been craving since the alcove.
Talk about one hell of a date, he thought hazily as he caught her hand and pulled her toward the alleyway entrance, wanting to get as far away from that portal as possible. And now, for the fun part.
Midnight coffee.
