HE’S A REAL NOWHERE MANSITTING IN HIS NOWHERE LANDMAKING ALL HIS NOWHERE PLANS FOR NOBODY To Jim, funerals were like Disneyland. There was so much to see and do, he had a difficult time focusing on any one thing and sort of just found himself standing awkwardly in one place as if at any moment Mickey Mouse might pop his enormous not at all rodent-shaped head out from behind one of the surrounding headstones. The imagined possibility of this actually coming to pass in the middle of the ceremony forced Jim to raise a hand to his mouth and feign a cough. It really wouldn't do to have the family of his recently departed 'friend' to think he was obtaining any sort of amusement from the tragic passing of their child. It was a source of great pride for him, having looked on while she had shoved a handful of sleeping pills into her mouth and resigned herself to wait for death, as his current host once had, but a peculiar sense of propriety kept his features solemn and distant. That, and not desiring to be carried off and beaten before he got to really enjoy the suffering of the young lady's family.
Midway through the lowering of the body into the open mouth of the grave, Jim turned his head downward and thus obscured his eyes from view. Clear blue irises receded into oily black. The device that lowered the casket began to buckle under the focus of his demonic suggestion. One side gave way with a violent snap, then the other. The casket descended violently and landed on its side with a hard crack that almost rivaled that of the mother's anguished scream. Eyes having returned to normal, Jim's head snapped up to absorb her reaction with a cold, unaffected expression on his face that went unnoticed by the rest of the guests. Her sorrow was so noisy, he thought, and not at all to his taste. The remorse of the father was far more desirable, but he was so old and too unattractive to even consider as a replacement for his current body.
Not your type, eh? the other occupant asked, as if sensing the demon's purpose in attending the somber occasion. Quiet. Jim mentally ordered, growing annoyed and excused himself from the companions he'd come with under the guise of sudden sickness. They sympathetically allowed him to quit their company. Retreating further back into the cemetery, Jim felt his mood elevate. It was so exhausting to keep up such a tiresome, emotional charade like what was expected. He had no trouble being disingenuous, but the act did not come without a toll on his patience. Releasing a heavy sigh, Jim leaned against a tree and removed a pack of cigarettes and a thin silver lighter from his wool coat pocket.

Grace had been walking through the park that day enjoying God's creations in nature. Like always, she had nothing to do that day or any day. Maybe it was time for her to get a job now that she decided to stay a while in the world of humans. She was after all trying to blend in. For the time being she was sort of being a drifter. For sleep she'd pop into vacant hotel rooms, use the bed, and of course fix things before she left. Food was around, she hadn't a problem finding that and clothes she was provided with from Adeline's (her host's) closet. It seemed like a calm day. It was partly cloudy and there was an ever so slight breeze. No birds were out, not many people passed by, it was just her there alone walking on the cement path before her thinking about her life and the lives of those around her. As she strolled along a feeling of grief washed upon her and Grace instantly knew. Off across the way in a neighboring cemetery was a group of people who were mourning a loss. Grace could pick up on this easily for it was her job to bring peace to those in pain. So it was as if her duty was calling her. Grace looked and saw that no other people had been around her so she popped away and over behind a large tree that resided behind the group of people in front of a grave-side burial. Grace peered around the tree and simply watched as people paid their respects. Before long came a man headed in her direction, she could tell he hadn't seen her. Then she looked again and saw it, what he actually was. A demon. He then rested against the tree she was standing behind and sighed. Grace casually moseyed around the tree to the side of him. "Was that a sigh of grief or boredom?" Grace leaned against the tree on her shoulder with her arms crossed looking at him "You know it's really pathetic when a demon is getting his jollies from a funeral, I mean better than murder but still sort of pathetic don't you think?"Demons were a part of her life, there was nothing she could do about it. . .some where worse than others, she almost went as far as to respect the ones that weren't so primitive. Grace had been attracted to that area by the grief of the family whom she hoped to help, but since ty he demon was in the scene she had to wait and find out that he was there for, this was for the protection of the mass in front of the grave side even if they didn't realize that they needed such help. Grace simply stood there waiting for his response with a stern look and a slight smirk. [ INFO ] TAGS: Jim, Open OUTFIT: CLICKY MUSE (1 to 5 ranking): 3 THOUGHTS/IDEAS: I'm SO tired! Night for now~

HE’S A REAL NOWHERE MANSITTING IN HIS NOWHERE LANDMAKING ALL HIS NOWHERE PLANS FOR NOBODY Although he was alarmed by Adeline's approach, more so because he hadn't detected her presence prior to her announcing it, Jim tried not to let it show in his reaction. Placing a sin stick between his lips, he promptly lit it and leisurely took a drag before choosing to acknowledge her with a quick once over and a pained grimace. Was she really asking him whether he thought what he was doing was pathetic? He got her drift. She was looking down her holier than thou nose on him. But how did she really expect him to respond? Yes? Sure, right after that he'd be sure to save a puppy too.
Pulling the cigarette from his lips, Jim gave a harsh, humorless snicker. "More pathetic than an angel who lurks where she's not needed? No, I think not." Gesturing briefly at the occupied graves around them to illustrate his point, Jim shot Adeline a patronizing grin. "No one left to save here, so why not move along? I've no official business here or with you. I'm just taking in the sights and paying my respects." He jerked a thumb backwards towards the funeral. The commotion he'd caused earlier required the gravediggers to go back to work so that they might straighten things out where the casket was concerned. It wouldn't do to bury the poor young woman on her side.
In the distance he could still hear her mother crying and her father trying his utmost to soothe his wife, despite the fact that he too was coming apart at the seams internally. Jim's smile widened, feeling quite satisfied at having put in the proverbial last nail into the situation in addition to the literal one that was the cause of all this suffering. After taking another couple of puffs, he straightened and put the cigarette out on the trunk of the tree he had been leaning back against. It worried him not how the ashes fell onto the grass below, as all he could currently feel concerned with was what Adeline would do next.
Was she just there to give him a tongue-lashing or did she intend on doing worse? It was difficult to tell sometimes. That other angel, the blonde one, had done little more than tsk tsk at him before; yet he still felt as if he'd only really been let off easy on account of the human girl. His mind strained to remember her name but drew blanks. It was something quaint and feminine and he had put that along with her number in his phone for later use. Such details were lost on him at the moment but he would be sure to look her up again soon, especially since he was now in need of a new source of amusement.

Grace looked around at the scene in front of them when he told her there was no one to save. This was true regardless of the dead people or not. . .Jim hadn't put anyone in danger and wasn't hurting anyone physically. It was the mental trauma that she had sensed and was there to put an end to. It was a very low scale act this demon was doing which sort of raised a red flag for her. Most went all out and just killed and ransacked and raped. But there he was simply getting chuckles from the pain and agony of humans mourning a loss. Grace nodded in agreement "Yes maybe you're right, you aren't killing anyone here. . .but that is not what I am here for. I sensed great pain as I was just out on a walk and that is what brought me here. . .I did not know till I got here that I would encounter you nor what the grief was over. I simply sensed those in need and followed my instincts to help."She came around to his side and stood beside him looking ahead of her watching the group before them hustle around trying to undo the damage that had been done. "I'm curious, is this all there is to demons? Were you all seriously just created to cause others pain? It seems like a waste of energy. Are you all like that? Or do some have the desire to live an actual life in accordance with humans?" It was probably obvious by now that Grace was not like most angels. . .then again, maybe she was, it just depended on who you met. Most there on earth were pretty bad a$$. But she was passive and optimistic. Her purposes on earth was to peak her curiosity and to help make life easier on deserving humans. It was unusual but at this point Grace was having a hard time deciding where to start the healing process. . .humans were perfectly capable of getting through it on their own, but since the supernatural caused extra unnecessary pain she felt it was her duty to undo it, which she would soon enough, she just had to deal with the situation at hand first. HE’S A REAL NOWHERE MANSITTING IN HIS NOWHERE LANDMAKING ALL HIS NOWHERE PLANS FOR NOBODY News that the small but offensive commotion he'd created and the amount of emotional trauma it had stirred was her reason for finding him sent a tiny shiver of pleasure down Jim's spine. He could not help allowing a satisfied grin to slip across his lips. The pride her explanation evoked was comparable to that felt by a human when they are shamelessly complimented on some aspect of their appearance. She might as well have reached out and given him a congratulatory pat on the back, for her words moved him so opposite from the direction that she probably meant them to. Any half-decent creature with even the smallest degree of self-consciousness and sense of social responsibility would have felt at least somewhat sorry, but he was not even that. He didn't know what he was; just that he didn't care for anything or anyone.
Sure, he carried out his master's orders when they were given. But actually, he perceived he enjoyed the infliction of suffering just a little more than his superior. It was the only act that made him feel whole, even if only for the briefest of moments. And unlike some of his fellow demons, he valued different sorts of pain. For him, it wasn't enough to just physically destroy a human. He wanted to make them want their own destruction first. Emotions like grief and self-loathing were like some rare piece of candy for him to devour at his own leisure. He would not be rushed, pushed, or prodded to do it in any other way than the one he was accustomed to. Without the subtle process, the gratification was meaningless and only made him feel emptier. As she moved to his side, he cast a furtive glance her way through the use of his peripherals. Her question gave him reason to pause, to evaluate, and for a minute he stood in thoughtful contemplation.
It was such an innocent, almost naive, question and he could not help seeing a bit of novelty in it. He did not know where this angel stood in the hierarchy of things, but her questioning of what had always seemed to him a natural and indisputable way of half-living struck him as humorous. But upon realizing that this was only an excuse of a reaction for not knowing the actual answer, his expression darkened once more. Was there ever supposed to have been more for him? It was all he felt he wanted, so that had to be it. Right? He had been born from the very origin of suffering, so why should he not strive to visit that pain upon everyone else? He, of course, hated the angels. They were his enemies. The opposite side of a coin that could not be destroyed or altered. But what he felt for the humans was so much worse and he didn't know why. Something about them rubbed him the wrong way and he was quite sure that it had more to do with himself than any injury they had ever dealt him.
"You ask amusing questions..." he told her with a tired shake of his head, like he couldn't quite grasp why such things should even matter where they were concerned. Debating existentialism would not change things for them. Their purpose was already solidified in his mind and he was resolved not to waver. He would hurt others for as long as was demanded of him and he would carry out his duties with single-minded devotion to a path that was not meant to be illuminated for a demon of his rank. "To be perfectly honest with you, I can't speak for the whole of my kind and I sincerely doubt they would wish it of me. All I know is my own reality. And I think you've already tasted some of that, if that's what brought you here. I don't wish for redemption or forgiveness. And I think if that desire for an actual life, as you call it, exists among either of our kind, it's a stupid and unattainable one."
He turned his body toward her, looking at her from behind a smile that could never be real enough. "That isn't what you desire, is it?"

Grace kind of smiled inside when he told her that her questions were amusing. She knew that she had successfully baffled a demon. . . which depending on the demon, wasn't saying much. But this demon, though apparently lower on the food chain, wasn't a dumb demon. He seemed quiet intellectual actually. . .he was after all standing there caring on a conversation with an angel without resorting completely to insults. Hearing him tell her he didn't know about the rest of his kind made her wonder. . .did any demons try to actually live among the humans and blend in? Of course out of their nature they'd still do evil, but for a demon to successfully blend in and not draw attention to themselves. . .now that would be worth an Emmy. The demon told her that he never wished for what she spoke of nor did he think it was possible. . .even for her, an angel. She thought about that for a bit. He was probably right, the three worlds were separated for a reason. There was also a reason why she had never heard of any of their kind living life as humans with a family and everything. Some would come down as a temporary person in a human's life to guide them, but they had no real life of their own. It was interesting, angels seemed to be on one end of the spectrum (even though sometimes it seemed angels had some evil in them, but it was all for the "greater good") and demons were on the other side (though some seemed to have nice sides, even though it usually is still for their own benefit) then there was humans who were seemingly created just to be that middle ground. . .to sort of be in their game between good and evil, the winner is the one who can turn them all to one side. But the problem was, they were created from a being of pure goodness. . .their destiny could not end in evil, which came from Lucifer, an angel who was created by the very same creator as humans. Just by default it was obvious that good would naturally prevail. However, with demons who lurked around in every day life like Jim who had proved the point earlier. . .it seemed that evil was giving good a run for its money and humans were making it easy. That's when he asked her, after her long thought process ended. . . "that isn't what you desire, is it?". . . This sort of stunned Grace for a moment as she thought. . .the answer that she wanted to say and that should come out of her mouth is "of course not" but somewhere deep inside of her she wanted to know what it was like to directly feel the love of a family that was her own, and to feel the intimate love of another being. Angels of course knew what love was and what it felt like. . .but the love they knew was different from what humans experienced and she wanted to know what they had. But that didn't matter, it was probably impossible as Jim said and that wasn't what she was called to do. "No that is ridiculous, it's not what I am called to do nor is it possible as you said. . . so why even worry about such things?" she partially believed what she said, but not whole heartedly. . .chances were he caught on but she hoped he hadn't. She needed to leave him soon and go help, why she was still standing there she hadn't a clue. HE’S A REAL NOWHERE MANSITTING IN HIS NOWHERE LANDMAKING ALL HIS NOWHERE PLANS FOR NOBODY Her answer was to be expected, in that it was proper; but that didn't mean he believed it. The fact that she had played at being the Devil's advocate with no prodding whatsoever on his part was reason enough to suspect that she was a little more than curious about the messy little intricacies of the human condition. The notion disgusted him to the core but he did not convey it in his features. Cheekily, he allowed his eyebrows to dart upward in open challenge to what she had said and what he believed she was attempting to deceive him about. "I don't know", he replied curtly and allowed his brows to settle, "But humans make detours all time. I only wondered if perhaps you had entertained a similar possibility."
Turning swiftly away from her, he moved from the tree and began to pace restlessly alongside the rows of grave markers. A smug smirk tugged at his mouth at every freshly filled plot that had yet to receive a placard because the ground had not had enough time to re-harden. How many of them had met similar sad fates, like that of the young woman he'd assisted in making what he believed to be a very shrewd decision on her part? Looking over his shoulder at Adeline, he laughed. "I wouldn't blame you if you did. Now that you've got me thinking about it, I must admit that they do enjoy a very interesting position in contrast to ours. Certain trespasses are freely forgiven of them. And all at once they manage to express both vanity and self-loathing, a feat I have never understood myself but cannot deny fascinates me." Absentmindedly, he stowed his hands in his pockets and made his way back to the angel.
Glancing back at the grieving couple and what remained of the funeral guests, he exhaled loudly. Their sorrow failed to entertain him any further. That familiar post-gratification boredom had already begun to take hold. Returning his attentions to Adeline, he tilted his head to the side curiously. "You came to help..." he began slowly, narrowing his eyes slightly. There was obvious hatred expressed in the way he pronounced the last word. To him, it tasted as sour and acidic to the tongue as a lemon. "What do you intend to do, exactly? I put their daughter in the ground already. She is sideways, but nevertheless, dead and almost buried if they would be so good as to stop being silly and leave well enough alone. Short of filling her hole with dirt, I see no further role for you to play."
