Athrun walked into his small empty house. He had lived alone for so many years that he was used to it. He threw his keys on the cluttered table and walked over to the fridge and grabbed a beer out of it. He smiled as he closed the fridge. He didn't know what he had to be happy about, The closest thing he had to a family was falling apart. He had already called Randy to track down Simone and keep a eye on her. He was sure to warn him to keep his distance though, because Simone would be able to sense him. He sorted through the mail on the kitchen table, couple bills, the rest junk.
He heard a noise come from his basement. He drew his gun and rushed to the stairs. He slowly walked down them and turned on the light. There he saw a young woman with blond hair sitting at his work bench crying her eyes out, "Simone?" he said lowering his gun....

Everyone had their breaking points. Even eternally positive, constantly smiling young mother to be witches. At least, thats what everyone told Simi.
Unfortunately, she didn't believe them.
James women were strong, she told them all. Told herself. No matter what, they kept level heads and their own emotions on lock down in order to maintain comfort for others. It was what her mama did and Simi wanted to be the sort of woman her mother was.
So the choking emotions she felt remained bottled up in her soul and a desperate sort of energy began to vibrate in her soul.
In hopes of disguising her worry and fear, Simi worked even harder at being the bright, cheerful person that everyone counted on. Baking filled the hours when sleep would not come and house remodeling took up the daylight time she shared with Ryder. When they weren't busy working around the lawn or inside, she made sure they were properly occupied so no awkward questions were raised.
When he was gone, she kept herself busy with substitute teaching and shopping for things for the house. Never did she allow herself downtime to think for fear of the cracks that might show through her dam of emotions. No self evaluation was allowed for fear of what might break through and there was already to much riding on her beloved's shoulders. She would not, could not, add to it by breaking down.
In her mind, to do so would be to show the man she loved that she didn't have faith in him, that she didn't believe that he could find a way out of the mess that they were currently in. And that was something she simply would never do. She loved him to much to offer that sort of pain on top of what she watched his suffer with when he thought she wasn't looking.
And so what did a girl do when she knew she was on the breaking point? When the world suddenly became to much and she felt as if she were coming apart at the seams? She went to the one place she'd always been able to find solace in no matter the storm.
There, in the darkness of that sanctuary, life finally caught up with her. Memories, whispers of voices and current realities all poured over her as she tore down the stairs and into the old office turned shop. For a long moment, she just stood there, not really understanding what had brought her there but knowing a bit of peace being there.
And then her eyes fell on a picture of her mother, father and Athrun sitting up on an old shelf.
Suddenly, rage, pain and mind numbing confusion swept through her and the dam burst through the tight reins she held on her feelings. With a cry that was almost inhuman, she picked up the small frame and tossed it across the room to shatter against the far wall. As glass rained down to the ground, she shook with the intense need to beat on something and then reached for everything and anything she could get her hands on to throw.
With a storm of emotion that shook the walls of the very house, the petite blond lost control for the first time in months and destruction reigned. When it was finally all said and done, she stood shaking. Grief, disillusionment and horror at her actions caused her to sink to her knees as the tears started to flood down her face.

Athrun looked around his shop at all of the tools and all of the wood working supply's scatted around the basement. Normally he would be mad, but he figured with everything going on he would let this one go this time. He sighed and picked up the photo that she had tossed across the room. He brushed the broken glass off of it with is hand then set it back on the work bench. He then turned back to a emotional wreck that was Simone. He gave a weak smile and walked over to Simone and then pulled he close and embraced her. "Is okay" he said softly. "Its gonna be okay Měilì" he said looking moving her back a little bit to look at her. Athrun pulled a stool out from one of the work benches and sat her down when she calmed a little. He waked over to the mini fridge which had a wood carving knife stuck in it, she laughed a little bit and looked back at Simone, "okay really? what did my fridge do!" He said in a attempt to make her laugh. He opened the door and pulled out a bottle of water. He walked back over to Simone and opened it. "whats goin on kiddo" He asked opening the bottle and handing it to her.

The feel of arms around her and a quiet voice were what finally brought Simi back down to earth. For a moment, all she could do was inhale great breaths of air and lean into the strength offered. Eventually, the tide of tears receded but they left her feeling embarrassed, guilty and totally exhausted. Eventually, she found herself deposited on a chair and she rubbed at the tears streaks she was sure stained her cheeks. The sound of Athruns voice made her look up and she blanched as she spied the knife.
"OH God... I"m so sorry.... I really , REALLY didn't mean to.. I just... I just .... I don't even know why I came here today...." she said hoarsely, voice husky from the storm of emotion just passed. "I left home this morning with the intention of going to Mama's but... I ended up here.... Ryder left on another hunt and I didn't, couldn't stand staying at home alone ... So i just got in the car and drove...."
Closing her eyes for a moment, Simi tried to gather herself before continuing.
"I guess I ended up here because its the only other place that has the ability to calm me....." she whispered before looking around and giving a choked laugh. "Belive it or not...."
Frowning at the mess, Simi reached inward and drew on an inner power she very seldom used and a powerful gust went through the room. As it whipped around, tools righted themselves, the work bench straightened and then the room was once more back the way it had been. Unfortunately, the glass still littered the floor where she'd thrown the picture but she was to exhausted to try to put broken pieces back together again.
Wasn't that just the story of her life?
"I'm sorry....I truly didn' t mean to come here and destroy your things. Theres just so much going on right now and I just kind of .. exploded I guess. Trying to keep it all together for everyone has been a bit wearing... I don't know how mama does it all the time. I don't see how shes kept sane.... This whole deal with Ryder is killing me slowly I think..... Each day.. I keep wondering if this is the day I'll get the call... and It terrifies me.. I can't eat.. I can't sleep... and yet.... I try not to let him see.... "

Athrun leaned against the bench next to her, He knew all to well what the toll was for the job that her husband and him shared. Her mother knew the cost of of the job all to well herself. He took a deep breath and then looked at the photo on the table. "Simone, I have said this a thousand times and yet it never seems to sink in until you loose someone, I'll be the first to tell you that this job sucks. Its dangerous, dirty, lonely and straight up hell. why anyone would do it I still don't understand. Ask any true hunter and they will tell you its the only thing they know how to do. It calls to you, pulling you in know matter how hard you try to pull away" Athrun said before taking a sip of his own bottle of water. "But like the military the hardest hit are the families that either are waiting at home or left behind, after a while you start hearing ghosts everywhere you turn" He reached under his work bench and pulled out the drawer that held his rifle. "I have taken 59 human life's with this rifle, over 200 demon life's its when you cant tell the difference between the two is when its time to quit" Athrun said pushing the rifle back under the table "Ryder is gonna get there sooner then you think Simone, and when it comes to that your gonna have to make a choice that your not gonna like" Athrun said as he started to have a flash back of his last time hunting. "I'm sure your mom never told you this, but I killed a 23 year old girl by mistake. Wind direction changed just as i pulled the trigger and the bullet went right through her chest. Her death was accidental, but i felt nothing and continued to fire. I completed my objective but it almost cost me my soul thats why I hate it when you kids go on a hunt, this job slowly sucks the humanity out of you" He said not taking his eyes off the photo.

Did Papa Knight think he was telling her anything she didn't already know? She'd grown up in this world and lost more than a few friends along the way. She'd lost her own father, in fact, to an early grave because of the illusion that they all had to save the world. It was the reason she'd tried to turn away from the path laid before her and chosen to lead a half life existence pretending to be something she wasn't.. by blood nor by birth.
She was tired of losing people she loved and cared about and there were times that selfish part of her reared its head and wanted to know why THEY were the ones who had to sacrifice everything for a bunch of people they didn't even know. Even though, deep in her heart, she knew why and understood that it was just something that they HAD to do.
Once a hunter, always a hunter. When you knew the evil that stalked the less fortunate, an honorable man could not lay down his arms and walk away. They fought for what was right and good and the losses along the way... Well, they were casualties of war like any other. Fallen soldiers for the cause of humanity that would never be lauded at any big official government ceremony but were heroes just the same.
At least, to those who knew them they were.
As Athrun went on to tell her about the girl, Simi wrapped her arms around herself and sighed. The world had no idea the hell their sort went through on a day to day basis. The military had nothing on the brutality that their sort faced just doing what they did during the course of a normal day. Simi could see and hear the heavy cost it had taken in the older man's voice and it was the same weight that any "old timer" hunter had. The things they'd seen.. The things they'd been forced to do... It wasn't any wonder that some of them went crazy or became hermits. Only the strong could do it and managed any sort of normal life.
After all... They did basically live a horror movie.
"I know, Athrun..... but... Ry's never going to live to that point, is he?? Thats not something we ever have to worry about if we can't get him out of this stupid deal.... IF we don't find a way around it or through it.. I"m going to lose him and my babies are going to be raised without a father...."she returned, anger and a wealth of helplessness seeping into her voice even as she tried to control it. "Being a hunter is part of who he is...I knew that from day one and I accepted it. I love him for that even as I worry... However, just like any good military wife... I support him in what he does. I know that he saves lives.. therefore... I understand his need to go. I don't care about that part of our lives... I grew up with this... But this deal... This eternal confounding suspense..... I feel as if I'm going to break apart every time the damned door gets knocked on.... I've put salt and other barriers all over the house. I jump at every little noise.... And even though I know theres nothing anyone can do to help?? I can't help the hope that theres someone out there who knows SOMETHING to help us."
Taking a deep breath, Simi closed her eyes and tried to gather herself. It wasn't Athrun's fault and he didn't deserve to have her shouting at him like some kind of shrew.
"God.. I"m sorry... I shouldn't have come here. I just..... I don't know."

Athrun set his water down and walked over to her. He put his hands on her shoulders to calm her down. "No no I'm glad you did you know your always welcome here. Now I really would like you to stay here tonight" He said looking down at her.
Simone knew she always had a place to stay, the door was always open to her. Athrun gave a heavy sigh, turned away from her and winced slightly in pain, hardly noticeable. What Simone did not know was that Athrun had been to the doctor that day. He had a rare heart condition. He had to keep his heart rate and blood pressure down or it could be fatal to him. In this line of work, it was damn near impossible. Athrun turned back around and smiled "Common lets go get something to eat" he said with a smile. He wasn't going to tell Simone or anyone about his heart.

Randy sat at the top of the steps listening to His father talk to Simone. He couldn't help but feel a tad annoyed with the way he was treating her. He treated her like she was his daughter. This annoyed Randy because Athrun was absent through all of Randy's childhood. Randy had pretty much come to terms with the fact that Athrun had no idea that randy existed till a few months ago. There relationship started off with Randy trying to take down his father, but now they were working on having a more stable father son relationship. Randy even stayed with his father sometimes.
Randy smiled when Athrun managed to calm Simone down. He leaned back against the stairs and lit a smoke "And that fokes is another heart wrenching moment brought to you by Athrun Knight, Join us next week as he tames the wild beast known as Alexis James" He said in a sarcastic tone. He took a few drags off his cigarette then poked his head down to look at them "O I'm sorry, Did I mess up your moment because I can come back..."

Emotional upheaval done, Simi found herself to exhausted to respond so she simply nodded her acceptance to his words. She was to tired and emotionally spent to drink home so staying would be a viable option.
Right up to the moment she heard the sarcastic voice at the top of the stairs and tensed. With blue eyes flashing, she raised her chin and glared at the young man there. The disrespect he showed for the older man grated on her nerves and his words about her own mother made her wanna drop kick him.
But she had more class than that. There were other ways to get even.
"Well, well... look what the cat drug in.... An eaves dropper. To bad you didn't let us know you were here for the party.. I'm sure we could have found something more interesting for you to hear." she returned coolly, glaring at the other man before turning to Athrun. "If its ok, I'm going to go out and get a few things from my car.... leave you two to .. talk...."

Athrun's eyes rolled as soon as he heard Randy's voice. Athrun turned around to tell him to shut up but Simone beat him to the punch. When she told him she was gonna go get some things out of her car he nodded and watched her walk up stairs. His eyes narrowed as they locked onto his son. He shook his head and then started to replace some tools that had been laying on the on the work bench.
"You know, it wouldn't kill you to be nice once and a while. Shes having a really rough time with things Randy, and the comment about her mom was not a bright idea" he said turning back to him. "And her mom his five times more powerful than Simone. Its not a bright idea to make them mad" Athrun reached under the bench and pulled out two baby cradles that he had been working on...
