Ah yes; the cool night air, the faint sounds of taxis passing by, the happy catcalls of ignorant drunks?
It was enough to make any true ‘New Yorker’ relax and put a smile onto their face.
…Well, almost any New Yorker. But at least he let out a satisfied sigh. That was always a step in the right direction, right?
Right.
Tucking one hand into the pocket of his coat, Cane strolled up to the crowded doorway of the club, nodding at the bouncers standing there.
“Heya, Cane!” The larger of the two men said, smiling widely. Dallas Valerian, one of the strange man’s aforementioned ‘family’, moved forward to unhook the velvet stop-wire that rounded the crowd up into a neat little line. “What’re you doing here? I thought you said you’d be visiting next week.”
“I left Hal’s earlier than expected.” He replied, the corner of his lip twitching a bit, in the faint semblance of a smile. “How are the children, Dally? Well, I hope.”
The polite chatter went on like that for a minute or two, both men standing comfortably in front of the door. At the irritated catcalls and angry hisses from the line beside them, however, Cane nodded again and moved to the door, waving at his friend over his shoulder.
The inside of the club was lively, as usual. The pit bosses were managing the gambling portion of the large building, and the interior bouncers made sure that the pit was clean and fight-free. Good. He hadn’t been looking forward to chastisizing any of the managers he’d hired to keep the place running in his stead, so this was a nice little surprise.
It was the underlying reason for such a surprise visit, after all; to judge how the ‘owners’ handled the club on a nightly basis, when the boss wasn’t due to arrive. He’d have to remember to add a little something extra in his employees’ Christmas cards that year.
Glancing around at the happy people moving around him, he was relieved to see that no one had recognized him.
Perhaps he could wander over to the bar and mingle with the crowd; see what kind of people The Pit attracted. If he didn’t like what he saw, he would shut down the club, or, perhaps, move it to another location.
His business was no place for the rowdy or obnoxious, after all.

I may seem unapproachable But that's only to the boys Who don't have the right approach Or the kind of ride That makes a girl like me hop in and roll
-------- It wasn’t often that Jade felt she could actually fully relax and just enjoy herself. Her life was filled with bumps and bruises, a constant fight to stay alive against varying degrees of dangers from demons to hangovers. It was a life she had accepted when she had first begged her father to teach her how to become a hunter like he had been and his father before him. It was a proud legacy to be apart of but it came with a price that her father had forgotten to mention when the training began. Not that even he could have known how his wife would meet her end and how he would lose his life despite still drawing breath. Not like he could tell the future of course but he should have better prepared Jade for that devastating moment when he looked at her with those pitch black eyes. No! Jade wasn’t here to think about all the misery she had endured that day and since. Her life wasn’t ideal, no life really was and there were still so many questions that she wished were answered, such as why she was still alive and no dead like her mother was. The demon could have murdered her right then and there but it had chosen simply to make Jade watch and then disappear. Even still, Jade was here at The Pit to relax and just enjoy herself. The music had a good electric sort of beat that got the juices flowing and made you just want to get up to dance. Place was run well from what Jade could tell. She had been to a lot of different clubs in her life and some were really nasty and had shit all over the place. One thing Jade noticed with some amount of disappointment was there were no fights. Sure, she hated seeing a bunch of douches getting into fights over the stupidest things but she couldn’t deny that it was entertaining to some degree as well. She had been at The Pit for about an hour before Cane had made his entrance and was enjoying herself. When he entered she had been sitting at the bar ordering herself a beer. She was a simple creature when it came down to it. She wasn’t into those weird ass drinks with long names and shit, give her the good stuff and she was happy. Clubbing wasn’t normally her thing either, she preferred to be out in the woods somewhere hunting but as a close friend of hers once told her, she needed to take some time to relax or she was going to drive herself insane. Down time was good to rest and unwind. Take a load off and not think about the asshole that had fucked her life up as badly as ‘he’ had. Shit…she was doing it again. Cane was given a quick once over by the brunette before she turned back to the bar, waiting for her drink. She was a patient person in most things but when it came to being served, she did tend to get a little grumpy. A few times she was more than tempted to elbow some fucker who was trying to push her aside to get his drink. She would have had it not been for her lack of interest in being thrown out of The Pit because she started a fight. She just wanted to enjoy her drink in peace and not have to fight to get it either. The music continued to pulse and a few times Jade felt tempted to actually get up and dance rather than drink. She may not have looked it but she could dance when she put her mind to it. Thing was though, she just wasn’t feeling it at that moment. Maybe later once she got more booze flowing through her system. Since she had come alone, it was understandable that guys would approach her and ask her to dance since it was apparent that she was single but she turned them all down because she hadn’t come to collect boys. She was there just to relax. There was plenty of other chicks that were drunk off their face that they could get home and bang. Not Jade. She had some standards, regardless of what Chloe or Jessie had to say. They were just jealous of Jade’s mad skills and total charm.
