It was getting hotter outside and that is just the weather that Reed likes. He loves to hang by the pool or the Beach during the summers, but this year well it will be different. All those he knew are dead and gone dust in the wind or whatever you want to call it. He could never go back home and sometimes that made him feel a little bit down, but he faked a smile and carried on with his day. He had no idea what he was going to do now that everything he knew was gone he and Katie usually stay in the car or random motels and they seems to be on a search for her daddy. Right now, they are on the run. Well not on the run, run like some may think but they are currently traveling the world. They couldn't go home. Everyone was dead and if he set his feet back in Misery Valley, he would die too. At least he had Katie right. When they weren't fighting that is. She drives him mental sometimes!
It was why he was out for a drive now they just got done bickering and he left her at a motel. He had to get away and he went to the beach to calm down and watch the wave’s crash down. It was soothing to him. He needed that calming. Sometimes he sits there and wonders what he seen in Katie and why he just doesn’t leave her on the side of the road and tell her to go to hell, but he can't do such a thing he doesn't know why maybe he really does love her even if he can't say those words. He is afraid of being hurt. Who isn't, but I guess that is is just a part of life a part of life he has to embrace, but is afraid to. Driving around also cleared his head. His car is his baby even if Katie hates her. He loves the way she purrs. She is his pride and Joy.
He was driving down a highway, and his car began to overhead smoke was coming out the hood like crazy… " Just great!" he said as he pulled over to the side of the road to peek under her hood, and smoke came out like a big puff as he tried to swat it away with his hands so he could see what the issue was. That however didn't work, so he striped of his shirt and tried to fan it away with she shirt so he could look. He went over to the trunk and put the break down kit out so people would know and maybe would help. He didn't have the phone on him seeing as he wanted to clear his head from his girlfriend and he was mentally cursing himself right now for leaving it, but he probably had to let his baby cool off before he could really look under her hood and hoped someone came by so he could use a phone maybe get someone to come look at it and tow it.
He just knew Katie would have some wise crack about the car when he got back in. Once she cools down perhaps, he could fix it. Maybe... but for now he just sat with the drives side door open… Watching the sun as and hoping it would go down soon since it was in his face. Tapping on the steering well trying to entertain himself. "This sucks!" He stated under his breath as if someone could hear him. "At least it isn't raining." He said to himself trying to look under the hood in a down pour wouldn't be good, but he also wondered if the day would get any worse. He has gotten into a fight with his girl, and now his baby has broken down. What next?

It had been one hell of a day. For some reason, Eddie's dad had decided it was a good idea to let her drive the car on her own. She'd won a competition out of town earlier that day and he'd travelled home with Mason to let her and Bastian stay for the party for a little before he had to head off on 'family business'. They didn't have long together but Eddie had got used to stealing every moment that she could and making the absolute most of them. It wasn't easy when your boyfriend's family and friends were in New Orleans and you were all thirty hours away in California, living the beach life with your semi normal ( well body adapting, telepathic, and kabooming ) family. She cared too much to let him go so if she got those few moments, they were better than nothing.
Now she was heading home, her daddy's truck had her boards strapped to the roof and the Hannah Montana CD usually used to torture Mason was blaring as the scantily clad young blonde drove like a maniac down the highway. It was times like this that Eddie wasn't surprised that Mason kept her away from his baby. She wasn't exactly the safest driver. That said she'd never had an accident (unlike Mason). That didn't take away from the fact she was singing at the top of her lungs and dancing around behind the wheel as she kept her eyes ahead of her to avoid any accidents. "I'M UNUSUAL, NOT SO TYPICAL WAY TO GOOD TO BE WAITING AROUND, TAI CHI PRACTICING, SNOWBOARD CHAMPION--I CAN EVEN FIX THE FLAT ON YOUR CAR... I MIGHT EVEN BE A ROCKSTAR...."
It was the little wiggle of her shoulders she gave as she tried to cut up rah-ock-star, that made Eddie almost miss the car smoking on the side of the road. It took a double look for her to realise it was really there, before she screeched the car to a halt. The sudden stop wasn't enough with the speed she was going and the car travelled a few feet forward, the smell of burning rubber filling the air as she reversed, honking the horn and rolling down the window. As she brought herself level with the little orange thing seemingly stuck here, Eddie stopped and leaned her body out the window. "HEY??" she asked, using one hand to block the sun out of her eyes. "YOU NEED ANY HELP?"

Reed really didn't think that his day could get any worse… It had actually been going good while he was at the beach and it was good to have some peace and quiet from Katie seeing as they were fighting, and she could do his head in at times and he did like taking rides in his baby. It helped him clear his thoughts and the sunshiny beach and water did too. His car she was something special to him so when she was over heating of course he knew who was behind it… growling out a "KATIE" as he tried to swat the smoke away as his car was over heating…
He didn't know if anyone would come by, but one thing was sure at least it wasn't raining. At least he would enjoy the nice weather for a while and it made him wonder if Katie didn't do this would she worry about him? Would she try to find someone to come find him? It was a small wonder, which in his mind he highly doubted she would since she has made it her mission to take his baby from him since she HATED the color of her. Seriously, he didn't get her dislike for the color... that is a mystery that never will be solved.
He had his head under the hood trying to figure out what cased this damage, but with it smoking like it was on fire it was hard to determine till the smoke clears. A car had been approaching and he didn't hear it at first until tires screeched and rubber was burning at the last minute stop. The truck had then backed up, and the window rolled down, and a lady asked if he needed any help. She looked like she coulda been about his age and he had to admit she was nice on the eyes and could see Katie mentally glaring at him already... he could also hear his step father in his head moaning about woman drivers.. He mentally shook his thoughts off." Help would be great… " he had replied seeing her cover her eyes with her hand trying to block out the sun.” If you could give me a lift to the nearest tow place that would be great… If that isn't a problem that is?" He had asked. For all she knew he could be some psycho killer trying to prey on innocent girls or something. He was sure her daddy told her not to talk to strangers…
"I am Reed…” He said moving closer to where she had stopped and offered her his hand to shake making an introduction so he wasn't a complete stranger to the girl and he didn't want her to think that he is some weirdo or something because he was sure psychos didn't make introductions right? He really hoped he wouldn't be making her go out of her way to help him. If he was, she could call someone and he could stay here and wait for a tow.
He'd hope there was one that would tow it back to his motel and he can fix it from there with parts from an auto store. He hoped to god that it wasn't something he had to put her in a shop to repair that would just suck and he and Katie would be motel bound for days! "There is a tow place around town I hope. I am not from around here so I haven't the slightest clue how things work here." He admitted. Every place seemed to be different some hick towns closet places were the next town over or something. He hoped one was near by. He didn't want to make her go out of her way.

As she was informed that help would be great, Eddie opened the door to her dads truck, sliding out until her feet hit the floor. The miniature surfer looked so ridiculously small next to the beast of a truck. Her keys were still in the ignition so the thing purred gently behind her as she stepped towards him. When you lived where she did, it was a regular occurrence for a girl in nothing but a bikini top and a pair of denim hot pants to strike up a conversation with you, so she thought nothing of her appearance. Besides, with his own attire, she could only assume he was a native. "Not a problem.... I'm not a grease monkey so, its about all the help I could really offer you." She said, a hint of humor in her voice.
The guy before her had introduced himself as Reed and offered her a hand. She rubbed her hand on her shorts in an attempt to brush off the lingering sand but was pretty sure she was making it worse, so settled for just taking his hand, gripping firmly and shaking his. "Eddie. Eddie Ackers!" She smiled before turning and slapping her hand gently against the car, patting it a few times. "And this is Betty...!" She was half joking. Well.... Her dad had insisted that her name was Betty and it was often joked that Betty was trying to seduce him what with that sexy voice that told him after 200 yards to turn right.
"The nearest tow place is about 20 minutes away.... It's pretty much on my way home though so... Not a problem at all...." She looked over him and then a car. "You wanna hop in?" With that she motioned a thumb over her shoulder and turned to get into the car.

Reed really could not believe his luck to get stranded out there and with no phone no less. He had wanted to get away from Katie and now he did literally, since there was no way of getting a hold of her. If he had, he would probably have bitched at her. Luckily, a girl had stopped for help and he had introduced himself to her. She seemed like a nice girl who drove a truck that was far too big for her. You could tell when she stepped out of the truck. The engine did have a good purr to it so it defiantly was maintained well. Gotta love the way engines purr, or perhaps that was just him? Who knows? He was glad she stopped and helped he didn’t want to be stranded here forever. “Any help is good help, thank you for stopping.” He said politely he did have some manners after all. He wasn’t a complete jock with nor manors or morals.
“Pleasure to meet you, Eddie. Eddie Ackers. That is an interesting name.” He had retorted seeing as it wasn’t one that he heard daily and most Eddie’s he had heard of were males and she didn’t look male so wondered what her parents were on when they named her, but didn’t want to be rude and say such a thing. She may deck him one, but it definitely is a unique and interesting name that was for sure. She introduced the car too as Betty… “Well nice to meet you too, Betty.” He said giving the truck a grateful nod as if it were a real person and not wanting to hurt its feelings. Cars have feelings to…or well he thinks they do. It is why they need to be well maintained and perhaps his baby is having an off day. Who knows, but he still thinks Katie dicked with her. He and Katie would so have to have a talk when he gets back to town and can get his baby towed back to their motel.
She told him the nearest tow place was 20 mins away and that it was on her way home so she could take him. Thank god he thought. She asked him if he wanted to hop in. He made sure to grab his keys and locked his car doors, before slamming the gently placing the hood of his girl down, and slipped into her truck noticing the surf boards and stuff as he slipped into the passenger side of the truck. “You surf?” He didn’t know many girls that did so it may have came out in a shocking tone that she does. Some girls on the TV competitions’ could really ride those waves. He isn’t as good as them or anything. He just does it for fun and to clear his head, but not this girl was becoming more and more intriguing. At least she let him in her truck, was going to give him a lift, and didn’t think he was some psycho killer like the dude in the movie the hitcher or something.
He waited for her to get in so they could go inspecting the truck, and noticed a sat navigation. “ Does that thing work good?” he asked asking her making some more conversation. THe way he and Katie travel they may need one. He is tired of the fights they get into when they get lost, not as if getting lost is a bad things, but sometimes with Katie it can be, but he does in some way love the girl to put up with her and her rampages over silly things. He buckled up, got settled, and watched his car in the rear view mirror once they had left and got on the road. He kept watching until she was outta sight.

A lot of people make bum choices when it comes to making small talk, it would seem Reed Stansson wasn't one of those people. He mentioned surfing! There was this instant smile on her face as he did so. Reaching behind her, Eddie grabbed the trophy sat on the back seat and handed it towards Reed. "Indeed I do surf!" That trophy was one of many, they had a room in their house they called the 'office' despite the fact no one ever did any 'officy' things in it, but there was a shelf in there littered with trophies and plaques and medals. "Do you? You look like the type..."
Maybe she gave him too much credit for his small talking abilities. He appeared to be asking about the sat nav. Shrugging quickly, Eddie moved to start pressing buttons. "Do you want to play with it? You're welcome to... I don't know... It's my dad's car and I don't really drive much so I've never had to use the damn thing." She chuckled gently, her arm hitting the cd back on, the not so mellow and incredibly poppy sounds of Hannah Montana blaing through the car.

He was grateful this young lady picked him up and was giving him a ride to the mechanic’s. He had simply wouldn’t have liked to stick around there stranded and made some small talk asking her about surfing. He had seen that she had a board and was sure she was a hell of a lot better at it then him. She had showed him a trophy that she had won from some competition, which only confirmed to him that she was a good at it, and would so kick his sorry ass if they ever compete against each other.
“Yeah I do, but I am telling you I am no where as near as good as you are if you have won this. I have only been at it a few years. It is a nice activity to get away and relax as if nothing else mattered.” Reed had told her not knowing if she felt the same way or not about that, but for him it was a good way to get away and relax away from Katie and her bickering. Some days he really wants to smack the crap out of her and surfing helps dim down that stress level.
Sometimes he even wishes a shark would just eat him so he didn’t have to listen to her moaning, but hey at least then it wouldn’t have had anything to do with a curse that killed all his friends and would have killed him to. If he went out surfing with Eddie, it would probably make Katie jealous. “How long have you been in competitions?” He asked curiously.
He had also asked about the Sat Navigation asking how it worked seeing, as he was tired of Katie’s rants when they were lost. He seriously needed to get one of those so she could bitch at it instead of him when they get lost. She had told him it was her dad’s car so she never used the thing… “ Ahhh, I see. So this is one of the rare occasions you do. Does that mean that trophy was from today?”
