It had been weird he hadn’t seen or heard from Anna in sometime now and she hadn’t returned any of his calls and made him wonder if she really was avoiding him or was really pissed off he had been telling her that she shouldn’t be drinking that much its not good for her. Yes, he knew the reasons why she shouldn’t but it wasn’t something he could just blurt out… it would throw what he is her way and he didn’t want to do that just yet… It made him wonder if she was okay… what if something happened to her… What if something had attacked her and she was hurt again?
Matt’s mind was bouncing all over the place right now with all the reasons of things that could have happened. Seriously for all he knew she could have fled the state, but wouldn’t she have at least said goodbye if she was leaving? He didn’t exactly know what was between them as of yet, but he really did want to find out and he loved how brave she was and in a way admired her especially with how her family is. Yes, he had done some digging slash stalking it wasn’t the bad kind at least he hoped it wasn’t…..
Matt decided to go out for a run before work later that night he was one that liked to stay in shape and as he ran down the street, a bakery was located on the street… It always had the most tempting goodies… That is when he picked up her scent and followed his nose right to the bakery seeing her inside…. He opened the door and stepped inside… “Why hello, Anna. Fancy seeing you here…” He had stated and waited to see what she’d say or if she was going to run. He hoped that she wouldn’t run that would be bad. He didn’t want to scare her just wanted to know what’s up with her.

There were many things that Annabeth Rhys-Damara knew she wanted in life, her goals and what she wanted to do. All those hopes and dreams were shattered in a heartbeat the moment the love of her life was taken from her in a careless hunting accident. From that moment she blamed herself, knowing that she should’ve done more to protect Jesse. She turned destructive, cold, distant from anyone that might try to bring her out of her shell. Anna didn’t want saving and she sure as hell wasn’t looking at her future. That was until her mother informed her in the fact that she was with child. Annabeth was so confused as to how she could be in fact pregnant after everything that she’d been through, everything she’d done. The alcoholic in her turned ashamed as she realized she was incredibly far along in her pregnancy and didn’t even know it. Quickly she tried to mend her ways, give Jesse and her baby a chance at life even though she had no idea if her little one was okay.
Now Anna was just trying to take her time and prepare herself for being a mother. A mother. That was something she didn’t think she’d ever hear about herself. Maybe that was why she shied away from Matt. He was her savior, she’d give him that. After her mess up with the vampire and he nursed her back to health she thought of him as a dear friend. Something about him helped level her out, bring her out of the destructive path she was running down. When she found out about the baby though she wasn’t sure how he would react, if he’d still want to be around her. So she cut off ties with him, as much as it pained her she knew it was the best thing to do. Who would want to be around a girl that was pregnant with her dead fiancé’s baby? No one. Atleast that’s how she saw it.
So Anna just kept herself busy at her mom’s bakery. Annabeth was sitting behind the counter, doodling in the schedule book as she sipped on some juice. The bell on the door jingled, letting her head lift up to greet the guest when she stops breathing. There standing before her in all his glory was Matt, and it made her heart drop into her stomach. ”M-Matt?” she frowned as she sat up quickly behind the counter, tucking her hair behind her ear, ”What are you doing here? How did you find me here?”

It was odd for him being in a bakery, the smell of all the scrumptious delights seemed to clog up his sense of smell, but there she was behind the counter sipping on juice, and he had to admire that she was drinking juice and loved the fact that she was okay, alive and well and wasn’t up to no good. It was something he sort of expected from her after how reckless she had been that night with the vampire, but he was glad he was there to save her and help nurse her back to health and she was looking rather well now and seemed as if she was doing good. What he didn’t know was she knew about the baby and he didn’t know why she had been avoiding him, but he was there to find out.
She seemed stunned that he had found her there, and he watched her frown, stand up, and tuck her hair so cutely behind her ears like she always does. “Who said I was here looking for you? It could just be some random coincidence and all, but lucky for me here you are… I was starting to wonder if the vampire got you or something since you haven’t been around and I haven’t been able to reach you.” Did she think that he was stalking her or something… yes he knew of this place, but the smell of her had led him here and it wasn’t something he could actually admit to her now could he. “I heard this place sells the best goodies in town… who would have thought I’d see you behind that counter.” It was true it was indeed something he had heard…
“Now that we are both here maybe you won’t avoid me?” he said with a shrug of his shoulders trying to make it seem as if he had no idea she had been here at all. “What’s been going on, Anna was your plan to avoid me forever or something?” He was curious as to what she’d say. Would she tell him the truth or just tell him that she has been busy. He could smell if she was lying, but she doesn’t know that he can do that either… Oh, he often thought she’d react badly and try to kill him if she knew the truth so perhaps that should be a secret to keep for a while. He made eye contact with her and then to the menu to make it look as if he really had came for the delightful goodies he heard about.

Annabeth continued to look at him confused, as if wondering perhaps he wasn’t really there. That somewhere in her messed up mind she was coming up with having Matt standing there in all his amazingness that she remembered. It had to be the hormones talking as she looked at him, that would be the only reason she would be thinking like this. As he spoke she couldn’t help but listen intently. He was her only friend, only one that really mattered. She had family sure, lots of it. But he wasn’t part of that, he was all different.
”You don’t exactly look like you were searching for a Bakery Matt…” she muttered questioningly not turning her eyes up to look towards him yet. Biting her bottom lip she turned her dark brown eyes up to look up at him. I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to disappear there’s just a lot of things that’s been going on….” she whispered pulling her sweater tighter around herself like she might be cold. ”Yeah…this is my mom’s place,” she said matter-of-factly, ”I just stick around here sometimes when I’m in town.” Nervously she bit her bottom lip, feeling anxious as she finally had him right in front of her. How many times had she picked up the phone to call him just to hang up again. He didn’t need to pulled into her messed up life, she was certain about that one.
Annabeth’s face fell as she heard his accusations. Of course he would assume all of that, hell it was what she was doing. She didn’t think he would want to be around some random former alcoholic knocked up mess of a girl. Groaning she looked up to meet his eyes, ”I was just…I didn’t know how you would handle some things…I was saving you from having to deal with everything.” It really was true. Most of the time in her life she didn’t care about others but other than her family and Jesse; Matt was one of the newest ones she cared about. Yes, she admitted it but that was the only time she was going to. ”You’d just do better not being around me.”

It was good that he had finally found her. He didn’t like being avoided and wanted to know what was up. Whatever it was, he could handle it. He already knew some things about her that perhaps she didn’t and he wanted to see what she did know and was curious now seeing, as she is okay. It was a relief to him that she was okay and that vampire didn’t send friends after her. She was in no position to be fighting and he knew that just didn’t know if she did and he stood there browsing the bakery’s contents as he waited for her to speak ands he so got him there he didn’t look like he was out searching for a bakery. He hadn’t been, but he did hear good things about the place. “Okay you got me there. I wasn’t specifically looking for one just was out for some exercise before work.” He had told her. It was partially the truth.
He had listened to he explain that she has many things going on and she didn’t mean to disappear…. It made him arch a brow at that as he listened to her tell him that this is her momma’s place ands he sometimes comes here when s he is in town. He did hear good things about it. He had accused her of avoiding him because it seems like what she was doing and he wanted to know her answer why. It often made him wonder if he had done something to make her avoid him, but hey he was happy she was alive and well and still breathing because he was thinking the worst…. She had explained to him that she didn’t know how he would handle some things and was trying to save him from dealing with things and it was starting to sound like the whole ‘its not you it’s me ‘type thing and they are nor even dating.
She told him that he’d be better off not being around her. He had shuffled on his feet and hmm’ed to himself, scratching a the peach fuzz he was growing from not shaving. “Don’t you think I should be the judge of that Anna? What do you think I am going to do yell at you or something….” seriously what was so bad that she didn’t think he could handle? “ You’d be amazed at the things I could handle and know about. Anna. You just have to be honest…. And if you didn’t want to explain things in person you could have called.” he had told her… He didn’t know that she had tried to call and hung up on several occasions, but he did think he had the right to be the judge of what he could handle and what he couldn’t. Looking around the shot he had to admit her momma had a pretty nice place going on here.

Of course Annabeth knew that he wasn’t specifically looking for the bakery. She was a hunter after all, she could pick up on the little things and having a hot guy dressed in sweats randomly show up in there was definitely not a normal thing. It wasn’t rocket science really. All you needed was to pay attention and not be so blinded by a pretty face. My how people will learn eventually that its rather hard to pull anything over on a person. Softly she nodded as he explained what he was doing out, her eyes doing their best not to take in how his clothes clung to his muscles in a delicious way. ”Right…you need to keep all buff for working as a bouncer,” she teased, a soft smile playing on her lips.
Even as she heard his words she knew he was right, that she was trying to take the cowards way out. It wasn’t even that this baby was his, she just didn’t want to lose a friend. Why was she so nervous around him? The way he was looking at her and how his voice enveloped her like a lullaby was a very foreign feeling in her mind. ”You’re right…You should be the one to decide what to do . That wasn’t fair of me,” she muttered softly, not turning her eyes up towards him just yet. Her nerves were getting the best of her and at that very moment she wasn’t sure if she could finish talking to him. All she wanted to do was run in the back and hide from him. ”I tried to call…I just couldn’t…Couldn’t tell you about this over the phone.” she said quietly. Nervously she licked her bottom lip and looked up at him knowing exactly what she had to do.
With a new found courage she moved around the counter, rubbing her hands on her pants to dry her sweaty palms. As Anna moved around the corner there was the obvious and tell-tale baby bump. Her baby obvious smaller than it should be but still showing she was absolutely pregnant. She didn’t look up, not wanting to meet his gaze as she smoothed down her shirt over her stomach. ”This is what I was hiding…” she sighed, gesturing down towards her stomach. ”Feel free to run now.”

It was true she had got him on the whole not looking like he was out looking for a bakery because his attire, and hopefully she didn’t ask what made him come in or anything of the sorts, because he may not have an answer for her, but he was glad he finally seen her and she did look well and it was a big relief to him to just see her and know that she was okay and wasn’t dead somewhere.. She had commented about him having to stay buff to be a bouncer… sure he didn’t really need to being what he is, but he isn’t going to tell her that.. He is not going to let that cat out of the bag just yet, but staying fit does help and makes him feel good about himself… Something about running just feels right and makes him feel free it was weird! “That I do…..” he replied with a nod.
He really didn’t want to lose Anna from his life it was why he had been so determined to get a hold of her and talk to her he knew things she had to learn on her own time and perhaps it was wrong for him not to tell her that she is indeed pregnant and that she shouldn’t be drinking…. He had made hints to her, but she didn’t seem to get him and they obviously hadn’t made sense to her if they had she’d be blasting him on the phone for sure when she had found out he knew with the subtle hints he’d left.. Sure those could blow that he isn’t human as well, but it was a hard subject to bring up especially to a hunter… he went down that road once and got burned big time and didn’t want that again… that crazy bitch is still out there somewhere too.. He hated it. Anna apologized and said it wasn’t right for her or fair of her to do that so she at least understood where he was coming from…
“No it wasn’t … I don’t scare easily, Anna… you don’t have to worry about dragging me into shit I can handle it… I am a big boy. he told her and it was the truth he wasn’t scared of getting thrown into things especially when he knows some of it. He was waiting to see if she’d tell him and she told him she tried to call and couldn’t which just made him arch a brow and have one of them why? Looks on his face… She was nervous he could tell… She was licking the bottom of her lips… was she scared he’d freak out at her or something why would she be nervous? She had finally had the courage to come around the corner and around the table, to reveal a small baby bump that she had been hiding it was probably something she didn’t want most to know and she even said to him that is what she has been hiding and told him to feel free to run.
He shook his head and let it as soft chuckle. “Did you really think that would make me run away screaming? Seriously!!!” He couldn’t believe that he had stepped closer to her just to see if she’d run away and flee herself…. “Why would I run?” he was curious as to why she would think that! All he has ever done was tried to help her and did she think finding this out would change things? It was something he already knew, but still it isn’t going to scare him away… It happens everyday woman get pregnant. It would surprise her to know how many showed up at his bar for drinks and he didn’t understand why…. He wasn’t going anywhere at all. Whatever she needed he’d be there and if she is pregnant that vampire may want her all the more for her and the babies nutrients so she’d need to be careful and safe and he wanted to help keep them both safe.. “Do you know how far along and what it is yet?”

Part of her wanted to believe what she was hearing, that what Matt was saying was true. Annabeth had known her fair share of people in her lifetime, and they all read the same way. Most people would bolt at the first sign of trouble. So why would she expect another person to want to stick around in her mess? That’s all this was. A sloppy mess that while she was already almost to her due date she still had a hard time grasping. Even as the little one would move around in her stomach it was like she was in another person’s body, trapped there in some alternate fantasy world, that’s the only way she could describe it. ”I really do hope you can handle this then Matt,” she whispered under her breath.
Chocolate brown eyes looked up in surprise as she heard him, already waiting for him to tell her off and run for the hills. He didn’t though, in fact he did quite the opposite and that’s what shocked her. Maybe he was a good guy, maybe he was one of the best guys she could or would ever find. Nervously she looked down, her hand stretched out over her stomach. ”Yes…I really do…did…” she said quietly before she looked up at him, ”Most people don’t stick around in this part so I’ve sorta resigned myself to being alone.” Oh how those words rang true. As he moved closer to her she didn’t move a muscle, almost scared that if she did he would pull away too. Sure she had her family but it was different when it was someone that didn’t share the same blood as her.
”I’m quite far along…I’m actually due rather soon…in the next few months,” she started as she reached up and tucked her hair behind her ear again. Eyes looked up to meet his gaze as she tries to understand what he’s thinking. What she wouldn’t give to have the ability to read minds in that moment. ”It’s a girl…another one to add to my nieces and nephew in my family,” she said with a small smile on her lips. She really was starting to get used to the idea that she was going to be a mother. The fact she was going to be having a child with her deceased fiancé almost made it feel even more right. ”It still shocks me that I am…ya know? The fact I didn’t even realize it and then…it’s all so crazy.”

Matt couldn’t believe that she thought he wouldn’t have been able to handle things and that he’d just screw off and be done with her and never talk to her again. After everything and him saving her life… hell no. He had known she is pregnant before she told him and he dropped them hints, but they never seemed to stick. “ Of course I can, Anna.”
She had looked sort of surprised when he said that he wasn;t going to run off asking her if she really thought that he would. He wasn’t like most guys she knew …. Didn’t she know that? He supposed she didn’t since her answer made that very clear to him, and he shifted, slightly moving closer. He could tell she had been nervous a little bit, but there really was nothing to fear and she really could have told him sooner, but he was glad he caught her here.
“I would never do such a thing. Maybe most people wouldn’t and that makes them am losers and cowards… I for one and neither of them things.” He had told her he wasn’t one to flee at trouble. He saved her from a rabid vampire after all if he could take that on he could take anything on. “ You really don’t have to be alone threw any of this… you are only alone if you make it so,” He had told her.
She didn’t move when he stepped closer so that was a good sign, and asked how far she was and if she knew what the baby was yet. ” Wow a few months that’s not far now at all.”He didn’t really expect her to be that far along so she had to have been pregnant for sometime before he patched her up. “ A girl. I am sure she will be gorgeous and look like you.” He said with a smile. “ I hope your family at least knows that you are.” He was sure she had to tell them, but wanted to be sure she wasn’t trying to avoid them too.
Anna had mentioned how it was weird that she is and had been and didn’t know .. “ It really is crazy I can only imagine it would have been a shock to find out. Must feel like the world is spinning to you.” Matt wondered how she found out did his warning make sense to her or something? “ How did you find out?” Did he finding out make her thing it seemed crazy? It could have been the whole thing.

Annabeth was so used to resigning herself to being alone that she almost wasn’t sure if she should pay attention to the words he said. Matt was her one good thing she’d had around her since Jesse died. He got her laughing again when she almost didn’t want to and he saved her from the monsters that took her own fiancé away. She knew that if anything she owed him both her life and the life of her unborn child. It was something that weighed heavy on her brain but there was something else. She actually wanted to be around him. He wasn’t her family and he just seemed to understand her. Hearing his words she felt the tears pool up in her eyes quickly she blinked them back before he could see them. Damn her pregnancy hormone, that’s what she wanted to blame it on but it was more relief that he was still going to be there.
A smile crept up on her face as she heard him say he wasn’t a coward or a loser. ”Well considering you helped keep me from bleeding to death I hardly think you’re either of those things,” she laughed weakly, her hands busily smoothing her shirt down. She couldn’t pinpoint why she was so nervous but it was one of those good feelings. Pursing her lips together she continued to look down, the alone comment striking a nerve that she wasn’t sure why it was. Anna very much had wanted to tell him that she didn’t want to be alone if he was there but she felt it was almost out of place for her. ”Do you…I mean…I like not being alone when you’re here…” she wanted to be honest with him, he was the only one she could feel herself being honest with. ”I know I don’t make it seem like it…but I do…”
As he closed the distance between them the only thing she felt was the need to touch him, just that simple contact with his solid frame as if to make sure he was there. Carefully she brought a hand up, resting it against his arm as she just looked at the middle of his chest. Part of her didn’t want to look up but she didn’t want to seem like a pervert. ”It’s not far…sorta scares me a bit…You find out you’re having a baby and realize you have no time to prepare,” she started with a forced snort at the end. Biting her bottom lip she started getting this almost nauseous feeling, pushing it off as just common pregnancy issues. Damn his ability to make everything sound amazing, his sultry voice just making her blush a scarlet red. ”Oh stop…I’m not gorgeous,” she laughed finally bringing her face up to meet his. How was it he could do this to her, make her almost feel something again. Anna felt like she partly deserved this….partly.
”Oh I can assure you that my world was thrown off its axis with this news. Just going from the existence I had before to now learning that I have to be the grown up and parents to another…It’s a huge change..” she muttered, being completely honest with him. Again something about Matt made her want to always be honest about things with him. Can’t say that she really has felt that with a lot of people, a lot of people that weren’t family or now dead… At that moment she felt this small pressure in her stomach, making her gasp quietly as she took a shaky breath. The huntress wanted to push it off as just the baby doing her little somersaults that she did on rare occasions. Hand held on tight to his arm for a moment until it passed, cautiously opening her eyes and just trying to play it off. ”Damn she’s having too much fun today…” she said in an attempt to push it off as nothing. Quickly she got back into his questions, ”My mom seemed to notice the symptoms…she’s very…intuitive so we realized I wasn’t just having a flu bug or anything. My family seem to be taking it well, they’re going to help since I have no idea what to---“ She couldn’t even finish that one as the pain started up again. Groaning at the pain she moved back from him and headed towards the counter, just wanting to sit down on the stool and grab a drink. Anything that might help make this feel just a bit better.
