Merry Christmas...
"Sounds good to me." Peyton said, already having half a clue about his plan to watch day time tv as she got pumped with steriods. Her place against him was so nice, so comfortable, but eventually she had to give it up, handing him her juice as she shuffled from under his arm. "I need to pee... So. Bad." She said, slipping her slippers on to avoid the chill of the floor and heading to the bathroom. "WHEN I GET OUT YOU NEED TO HAVE A WORD WITH YOUR DAUGHTER ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF NOT SITTING ON MY ORGANS AGAIN??" Seriously? What was it with unborn infants and resting themselves against bladders, using organs as squeeze toys and kick boxing bags?
She was sat on the toilet, peeing for all of the united states of America when she heard the front door go, frowning for a moment and poking her head around the door. "BABY... GET THAT?" Who the hell would it be? Everyone she knew was either busy or already at her mothers house. She would never have guessed who it was either, not that Kai would be able to tell her... By the time anyone could reach the door there would be nothing there but an envelope with Peyton's name on.

Kai couldn’t help himself – he burst out laughing when she yelled to him about sitting on organs, and kai spent a moment just envisioning his daughter, laid out on her spleen with a pair of glasses and possibly reading of the books that lined Peytons shelf.... maybe great expectations. Yes. He fully expected their daughter ( or son, though the more he thought about the less plausible it seemed ) to inherit her mothers brains and maybe his skill with a gun. Not that he was bragging or anything... but you know, kai was pretty good when it came down to it. Probably had something to with the fact that he was given a gun for his eth birthday and had been firing since he could hold one... but still.
As the doorbell went, Peyton beat him to the punch of yelling he’d get it, swinging his legs from the bed and pulling on a pair of jeans he was reasonably sure were clean...ish, and made his way down the stairs, fastening them up. Spotting the letter he stooped to pick it up and unlocked the front door, peering outside and looking around, going so far as to trot up the stairs to the pavement and look for the apparently nonexistent messenger who had left a letter for... Peyton. He confirmed it as he headed back inside, glancing down at the unaddressed envelope with a frown.
The fuck?
Peyton! You got mail...

Merry Christmas...
There was post on boxing day? This was news to her.... Eventually there was a flush of the toilet and Kai's scantily clad fiancee came wandering out, curious about what it was. It was probably a christmas card from one of those relatives that always forgets till the last minute and sends one thinking they can pretend it got lost in the mail. But then... Who but her immediate family even knew her address?? And you'd think they'd at least write it to her and Kai. Curiosity was definitely getting the better of her as she skipped towards him and plucked the envelope from his hand, kissing him quickly and grinning.
"You know it was a terrible idea to only steal one cookie.... I'm thinking a cookie breakfast while we get ready is JUST what the doctor ordered." She said, a small giggle escaping her as she tore open the envelope in her hand. What she pulled from it wasn't a card, but it did claim to be a gift. A green post it on top of a few pages of folded paper read 'Merry Christmas, but we all know its too late'. A frown spread across her face, her nose wrinkling and smooshing her freckles together. She opened the pieces of paper, moving back towards the bedroom and sitting on the edge of the bed, all the while reading the pages before her, flicking to the next as she finished one like she couldn't stop reading if she tried.
The pages were a mess with information, there were phone logs, text messages, pictures.... If Peyton didn't know better she'd say that this was the work of a detective or something but she had not idea how a detective would find half the stuff that was in here.... Her heart practically stopped in her chest as she flipped past a picture of her boyfriend with a bullet hole in his gut and pictures of her with her wrist slashed. She learned more about her boyfriends childhood and his history in these pages than she ever had from him simply telling her, not that she minded, she'd always said that if he wanted her to know he would tell her, and he'd told her more than she was sure he wanted to.... She just didn't want to have to read it, not right now....
The thing that seemed to distress Peyton was the play by play account of what happened to her the day a shapeshifter came to her door, the night she'd potentially conceived her child despite spending every second of every day trying to convince herself the baby she was fighting for was most definitely Kai's. Then there was the text messages that Kai had been receiving of late from a certain demon.... One in particular catching her eye.... One that promised Kai his girlfriend would never get the chance to give birth to this child. Her heart stopped again, her hand going to her stomach.

Kai wasn’t a worrier. Not generally. He worried about the stuff he was supposed to worry about.... his pregnant wife to be and his unborn child, how they were going to pay next month’s bills – the important things. Like Peyton, he assumed the envelope to contain a Christmas card from a neighbour he hadn’t met, a friend of hers who she had given the new address, and thought it just easier to drop the card off a day late than post it and it not arrive until well into the new year.
What he wasn’t expecting was the look Peytons face as she moved away, back to their room, as she sat on the edge of the bed and read what was not in fact a Christmas card but a wad of paper. He knew better than to interrupt her, the pointlessness of asking a question whilst she read the words upon the page, but as her eyes stopped moving , he sat on the bed next to her and wrapped his arm around her waist in a manner that could only ever be described as protective. Peyton?

Merry Christmas...
It took a moment for Peyton to register the arm going around her, her eyes eventually travelling up to look at him, a tear falling from her eye like it has just run away before tumbling down her cheek. She couldn't seem to talk, she just handed it over to him, holding her bump as she pushed herself up off the bed. For a moment, she started to pace, moving a little faster as a sharp pain shot across her gut. "I...." She didn't know what to say.... How the hell could she know what to say? She was doing her best to be okay... to not let it get to her... she'd been doing so well with the whole not getting stressed thing.... But.... this? How could she not stress?

The feeling that wrapped its icy hand about kai’s life giving organ was not one the man was used to feeling. It squeezed his heart with every page he read, as he read his written so plainly on this paper, every memory he fought to hide, to forget, written there as clear as day. And then Peyton, and the pictures..... he wanted nothing more than to tear the pages into small pieces and set them alight, to banish the memories and the harsh truth to nothing but ash and return once more to the quiet normality of the life they had struggled to forge form themselves within the safety of these walls. A paradise that had been tainted.... and kai had an idea who by.
Tearing the paper to pieces, he stood and cast them to the floor, moving to peyton and wrapping her in his arms. i’ll fix this.

Merry Christmas...
She watched Kai intently, like his reaction might be able to change this, or make the images rolling around in her mind right now. She watched as he tore the pieces of paper, the sound of them shredding sounding like it was louder than it should be, right in her ears and so obvious, like her focus on it made it so. She swallowed thickly as he came towards her but something else hit her before his body reached hers. It was like something inside her just let go. Her eyes widened a little and her arms moved around him, her legs shaking a little as she realized what had just happened, more so because of the cold hitting her thigh and making her aware that they were now wet. But she didn't say anything, despite knowing she probably should, she just held her arms around him and whispered. "How?"

He held her close to him, though careful, as he ever was, of her stomach, kissing the top of her head gently. Because i’m going to find it and i’m going to kill it, and i’m going to make sure it can never hurt us again, i promise as he spoke, it took the Irishman a moment to notice the wetness growing on the floor, but once he did he looked down, and then back to her, his eyes widening. peyton? the question was evident in his town as he lifted his gaze back to her green ones, determined not to panic.

Merry Christmas...
Kai killing the monster that sent her those things was, to be perfectly honest, the last thing on her mind right now. Any other day, she'd probably be quite glad to hear it, but right now, it was taking every thing she had not to break down. It became increasingly harder as he noticed the floor, her eyes moving down with his, but hers looked up sooner, waiting for his eyes to lock hers before nodding, taking in a deep breath. He knew as well as she did that this meant their little one wasn't going to wait for them any longer, that it was coming whether they liked it or not. She was already breathing deeply, partly just to keep her from freaking out, but it me it a lot easier to cope as a wave of pain hit her, her hand flying out to grab his shoulder, her body bending the best it could and her head finding a resting spot against his chest as she groaned obviously through gritted teeth.

For the first time in his life, kai found himself panicking. It was an unusual emotion, and not one he recognised at first. It felt like his chest had somehow capture a bat within it’s cavity, one that seemed intent on escaping through his mouth, on pushing its way out of his skin. This situation was not one he had ever been trained for, it was not one he had ever thought he might find himself in, and as she doubled over the bat in his chest multiplied tenfold, attacking his insides in their attempt to escape.
But kai would not be kai if he could not master this. It took him a moment, a moment of clear wide eyed terror, but he did it, holding her hand through the pain as he reached for the phone and dialled 911, talking hurriedly to the operator. An ambulance is on the way baby... it’s going to be okay....
