Personality

--- >> Socially awkward is an understatement for little Thaila. The once bright and bubbly toddler is now nothing more than a little lost lamb. Thaila doesn’t really quite know her own personality. By force she’s become quiet and shy. She’s comparable to a stray dog, scared and beaten down, likely too hide in the corner and shy away from human affection and while you just want to hug her and look after her you never know if she might one day turn around and bite you. She’s terrified of conflict. Raised voices and shouting are guaranteed to freak her out.

History

--- >> Thaila Elise was born on October 2th 2019, the second addition to the Papillion family. While her mother would never have admitted it, Thaila was a last ditch attempt to save her marriage and make life better for their older son Dane. Thaila’s father was an alcoholic who severely beat Thaila’s mother since he was injured in a work accident and unable to go back to work or generally live independently. Dane had only been 15 months old at the time and he blamed having a wife and a child for everything that had happened to him. God knows why she thought having Thaila would help. Maybe it was how happy they’d been when Dane had been born or maybe it was the idea of a little girl that depended on him being able to mellow him a bit. No matter what the thought process was it didn’t work. Her mother could barely cope and as soon as Thaila started attending preschool, the beatings became worse. They struggled for money and it seemed to be the main source of her parent’s fighting. Thaila barely has memories of her mother but she does remember the day she died. She remembers Dane taking her out of the house and telling her one day he’d take her away and look after her. He promised her. Thaila was too young to know anything about her mothers death. She was too young to understand the fact her mother took her own life because she couldn’t stand the idea of living it anymore.

For years Thaila enjoyed the escape. If she could help it she’d stay at school all evening. She joined reading groups, drama groups.. Everything she could find to keep her out the house without asking her dad for a penny. She was bullied at school for the lack of everything she had. She had hand me down uniforms from her brother most the time, shoes that were a little bit too small, her hair was never perfectly put up and she was happiest jumping in puddles barefoot. She was perfectly able to switch off to any taunting and teasing. She’d much rather sit and talk to her teachers or do extra work than talk to the other children in her class. Dane stopped going to school after a while. He took to petty theft and hanging about with the wrong sort of people and once the government got wind of it they went straight to their dad. There were always fighting in Thaila’s house but this whole thing sparked more of the same. Her dad put their place up for sale and as soon as he could he left, taking them to what was practically the middle of no where. He never sent Thaila or Dane to school after that, they spent their lives hiding from everyone, struggling for everything had.

By the time they’d moved, their dads mood swings got worse. He started to beat Dane and Thaila daily and was usually so drunk he didn’t even know who they were. The house they’d moved too had an old laundry shoot so after a few months, Dane realized he could easily hide Thaila and their dad would forget that she even existed. It was the two of them against the world. Her brother did just about everything he possibly could for her. After a couple of years, Dane began going on disappearing acts, sometimes leaving for days at a time and when he would he’d leave Thaila down the shoot. He’d leave her with a book and a torch light. In the time he was gone she could read a book 6 maybe 7 times over. What else was there to do? Dane slowly got weird. Even the way he spoke to Thaila changed. But he kept telling her he had a way to help them, he had new friends that were going to make him stronger so he could keep them strong. One day when both her father and Dane were out, Thaila raided the house in search of things they might need, throwing them all into a case and as she went through her dad’s drawer she found an envelope filled with cash. She didn’t know how much was there, she didn’t even know how much things cost, but she ran to shove them in the case, hiding them under the small selection of clothes she had.

Thaila’s dad returned home sooner than she’d expected him to and found the suitcase of stuff she’d been packing. Her dad freaked out and started beating on her badly. By the time Dane returned home, Thaila was limp and barely conscious on the floor. Through the entire beating she’d cried out for him and he hadn’t been there. The moment Dane saw his baby sister lifeless before his eyes he attacked, beating his father savagely and then, from what Thaila could barely make out through the mist… Bit him. Thaila doesn’t remember what happened after that, but with her barely still conscious her big brother followed through with the rest of the plan. The plan to turn them both into vampires. With their father dead, he couldn’t hurt them anymore but Dane wanted to be sure that no one ever hurt his sister again. He’d been convinced that when he became a vampire he wouldn’t change, but he did. Thaila however didn’t. She was a scared little girl that didn’t know vampires really existed, let alone that she was one. She just knew that Dane told her she was different and that no one would want her. She slowly noticed the things that were different about her. That her senses were heightened, that she was stronger than she was before but more importantly, her heart was no longer beating. If she asked questions, Dane turned to violence. The way he looked at her, acted with her.. It was different. He started to hurt her, first by hitting her and then buy cutting her with special knifes. He warned her that no one else would want to talk to her and that if she spoke to other people he would leave her and she’d be killed for being different. Thaila continued to gather up money and things she might need, never telling Dane. Hoping one day someone different like her would save her.
