PERSONALITY »
Mason is a pretty straight forward kind of guy. He likes to deal with facts and figures, and likes for things to be explained in a logical way. He’s a problem solver, and often believes there’s a simple and scientific reason for most things, with a few exceptions; Girls, and the abilities he and his sister share – but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t stopped looking for the scientific explanation he craves.
Socially awkward, Mason often has trouble reading people and depends a great deal on his sisters telepathic messages to let him know when he’s said or done the wrong thing. Asking a girl why she’s crying, and then telling her that crying over her cheating boyfriend is silly and childish and explaining that she never actually loved him and he never really loved her, it was just the result of hormones making her feel giddy, is not exactly tactile and often results in more hysterics or a slap across the face. Sometimes both, and once a rather unexpected affront on his mouth.
Simply put, Mason is a geek – he likes science and maths, enjoys science fiction and gaming and ahs all the social ineptitude of someone who spends a great deal of time indoors. This said, he has the capability of being sweet and is surprisingly empathic towards his sister, even if he doesn’t feel comfortable expressing it as easily as she does. Putting up with Edison’s random hugs, her constant rearrange of his wardrobe, and the way she will occasionally curl up in his lap and watch him play COD is the way Mason expresses outward feelings – it is the quiet things he does and the way he will solve your problems and try to make your troubles disappear without you ever noticing him or what he’s done is a lot simpler way of proclaiming fondness that silly gifts or physical contact.
HISTORY »
Mason was born four minutes after his sister, and was a surprise to the woman who had been expecting a bouncing baby girl, and only a girl. Blue, with a foot curled at an awkward angle shorter than his other and lungs that were not big enough to sustain the small life, Mason did not come into the world breathing. Revived by the Doctors, it was with a warning that he may not live through the night.
It was then that Mason’s abilities, his powers, first started to show themselves. During the night, mason died several times, but never from the same thing twice. The baby boy’s body seemed to react to the environment it was in – his lungs were too small to sustain his life so they expanded, his oxygen starved brain re-generated with the flood of oxygenated blood; a miracle baby in every sense of the world. Of course this wasn’t without its own set of complications. Everything the Doctors did his body reacted too, sometimes for the better, other times not so much. Even so, within a few weeks the Ackers were allowed to take their perfectly healthy son home for the first time, every ailment of his birth gone.
Now, looking at the perfectly healthy, tall and lanky teen you would never expect the defects of his birth, the hell of his first few days on the earth. Nor, would you think him the younger of the two twins who are practically inseparable, despite being near polar opposites. Somewhat overshadowed socially by the butterfly that is his sister, Mason is more than happy to stay just where he is with his close friends, his family, and of course his sister. The two share a close clink, to the point where teachers and family not in the know would swear they were practically telepathic – but they are not the only children of the family. They have an older sister, Sara, who is somewhat jealous not only of the twins closeness, but also of the twins abilities being the only one in a family of psychics unable to so much as flick a paperclip across the room, let alone blow things up or whatever it is that Mason does. There is a quiet turbulence between the siblings, but as of yet, nothing more than heated arguments has ever come of it.
Nearly two years ago, driving home from a party, Mason hit something. It was the early hours of the morning and the roads were empty – a little over the limit, home was only a short distance away and so the Twins decided to drive home. Despite Eddi insisting that it had only been an animal, a racoon or something, mason pulled over to check. If it was an animal, he would take it the vets – there was little way he could just leave it there.
What he found however was not an animal, but a human. Checking vitals, for broken bones, the person in the road was not dead nor dying, but unconscious. Though he dialled the ambulance using the strangers phone, When Eddison started screaming and things started blowing up, mason made a decision that still haunts the teen to this day. He left them lying on the side of the road, and drove his sister to the safety of their home.
Neither twin had any clue they were being watched, and that mason was not the only witness to his twins abilities that night.
Though Mason rang the local hospitals the next morning, though he watched the news like a hawk for several weeks, there was never any mention of the stranger in the road, the body they had hit, and he is slowly starting to believe that they imagined the whole thing, that something had been slipped into their drinks at the party.
