The Big Ones*
[/font]Personality
--- >> Lillian is a loving, capable woman who enjoys spending time with people. She is an incredibly giving individual that strives to help those in need in whatever way possible. She has an infectious good nature, and she’ll go to the ends of the earth to protect those she cares about. Underneath, she has a core of steel, though. She is very strong willed and won’t hesitate to stand up for what she believes in. She can be incredibly stubborn, and she’ll let you hear about it if she feels strongly about a subject.
History
--- >> Lillian has always known about the occult. Witchcraft has run in her family for generations, and she and her sister, Rosalie, were raised learning about their powers and the supernatural. Their mother operated a new age shop, but back then, it was just a shop. No safe house, no clinic, no supply cache. Lillian and her sister grew up helping in the store while not in school, and they learned responsibility from an early age. They lived a simple, but happy lifestyle, and were content with what they had. They probably would have lived out the rest of their lives in comfortable anonymity had Rosalie not been killed.
When Lillian was a young woman, her sister was brutally slaughtered by a supernatural creature. Lillian and her parents reacted to Rosalie’s death in very different ways. Her parents, shocked and devastated by their daughter’s death, sought to escape the pain with a change of location. They moved far away, and eventually ended up in Ireland, the land of their ancestors. Lillian, on the other hand, was emboldened by the loss, and wanted to make sure that nothing like it happened again. She had always heard stories of fey creatures and evil beasties, and had learned how to stay away from many of them. Now, she began to research them in earnest, learning everything she could. She convinced her mother to sign over the shop before she left, and quietly went about turning it into a refuge for the victims and hunters of supernatural creatures. Lillian was a canny business woman, and her endeavor flourished.
When Lillian was still quite a young woman, she met an intriguing young hunter named Solphi, and the two became fast friends. They did everything together and had many adventures, fearlessly facing down any creature that stood in their path. Eventually, Solphi met and fell in love with Sastre Quicksilver, and thus the enigmatic young hunter and his even more enigmatic teacher came to join the group. Lillian and Sastre hit it off from the start, developing a unique love/hate relationship. The two seemed to enjoy each other’s company immensely, but they were both strong willed and opinionated, which could make for some real earth-shattering arguments from time to time. All in all, though, the group functioned well together, and the shop and safe house flourished.
Then, when Lillian was twenty-four, she gave birth to a daughter, Abigail. She flatly refuses to discuss the circumstances surrounding Abigail’s birth or conception, and the only other living person who knows would never betray her confidence on the matter. Despite having no partner to help raise the girl, Lillian did an exemplary job. But when Abigail was only two years old, tragedy struck. Sastre, Solphi, and Sastre’s mentor went on a hunt, but only Sastre returned. Solphi and the Old Man were dead, and Sastre was broken, seemingly beyond repair. A difficult time followed, and it was a long time before either Lillian or Sastre recovered.
Lillian had the shop and her young daughter to keep her occupied, however, and she provided everything the growing girl could want. Abigail loved helping her mother around the shop, and she learned everything she could from the people who passed through. Running a safe house could sometimes prove dangerous, but Lillian enjoyed aiding others in the fight. Since the death of Solphi, however, Lillian never again hunted herself. When Brennan was just a teenager, disaster struck again. Someone discovered Lillian’s safe house and burned it to the ground, forcing her and Abigail to flee. The two relocated to Chicago and promptly opened “The Light Within,” establishing a new safe house and makeshift clinic. The intent was the same, but this time, Lillian and her daughter took the utmost care in protecting their new home.
The event spurred Abigail into taking up the family trade, utilizing all the training she had picked up from the never-ending stream of hunters she grew up around. Lillian often worries about her daughter, but she respects Abigail’s decision and welcomes her home as often as she’ll come. She now runs the shop with her long-time friend, Izzy. She lives in the apartment over the shop, leaving Chicago only when necessary to help a friend in need.
