SPECIES & ABILITIES.
Marie was, unknowingly at birth, possessed by the spirit of the phoenix, a mythical fire bird thought to be both eternal and beautiful. Dormant for the first twenty years of her life, a raise in sunspot activity on her birthday caused the creature to awaken, thus activating its latent power. Legend has it that the phoenix remains young by setting itself aflame as it ages, destroying itself, but then rising out of its own ashes as a new bird, a carbon copy of its younger form. The same is true of Marie – who once a year spontaneously combusts – and rises out of her own ashes – having not aged a year, but having forgotten everything. As such – she still appears 20, despite being much older. She is also somewhat pyrokinetic – her phoenix within her able to both create and control fire.

A BRIEF CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
Marie Bethany Morse was born on the 18th July to Michael and Stephanie Morse. She was the youngest of two children, and she looked up to and adored her elder brother, one Jason Morse, from an early age. She had a remarkably normal childhood, living in a suburban part of Chicago, middle class parents making sure she had a good education, and she was never short of anything she wished for.
However, on reaching the age of 20, a sun flare on June 21st would change her life forever, destroying the near perfect life she had lived up to that moment. The phoenix awoke within her, and with a vengeance. Unable to control herself or the new phenomenon at all, her first self-combustion set not only her alight, but the flat she was in, and the brother who she so loved. She awoke a day later in hospital without a scratch on her, the only survivor from what was presumed to be an arson attack, that had killed everyone on her floor. When questioned about where and who she was, Marie could only answer with her name. But she knew not why she'd been there, knew not her address, her family, or the brother she had killed.
And so began her life as the phoenix.
She left that hospital knowing just that she was Marie Morse, and with the intrinsic knowledge she was changed, that she was eternal. Again, unsure of why, all she knew was that she'd been made more than human. But even with many of her memories gone, more heartbreak was to follow. Past family came to find her, question her, try and ask what had happened. She watched them suffer as she had to admit not knowing any of them, she watched them weep as she said she'd never known a Jason Morse.
And each year, on the 21st of June, she died and came back to life, unchanged and eternal. At first the death remained violent, but over time she began to feel the change within herself, learned to control it, at some level, leaning to become one with the being within her. Yet any friends she had made that year, any lovers she'd come to be with...each rebirth left them wiped from her mind, and though she couldn't remember them, each time they tried to find her, each time they looked hurt they'd been lost to her, a lingering feeling arose from past lives, fleeting glances at the others she'd broken.
Thus, only few things were engrained into her memory; she was a phoenix, she hurt people, and she could never be close to people. Not without hurting them. She had taken to meeting a solitary life – until she met one Riley Dixon. While initially awkward and unsure about him – he and Marie fell deeply in love, and began a relationship. Unlike so many others, he supported her, and understood what it is she was – unphased by her forgetting him. Rather, he worked to make her remember. The couple are now happily engaged and expecting their first child – and yet while they may seem the picture of perfect bliss – not all is quite right in paradise.
