A BRIEF CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
Jodi-Beth was a love baby, it seemed a rarity these days, but she was born completely of love, to two parents that wanted her more than anything in the world. Her father was a soldier and her mother worked in a bagel store but really, all she wanted was to be a mother, and after 9 years of marriage, she got her wish. The problem was, her husband only got to see their daughter for a week and a half. Jodi-Beth was born late and a tender 10 days after her birth, her father had to lay a kiss upon her head and tell his little girl he'd see her soon. The way her mother told it, it was the hardest thing her father ever did when he left her. The hardest thing her mother had to do? Raise her daughter alone after her father died. She moved to one of the rougher suburbs in Brooklyn, she started to drink and hang out with the wrong people, get into the wrong things. Jodi's first introduction to drugs was at a very young age, a fried of her mothers encouraging a spliff into her mouth at only 5. She spent her life around those sorts of things, so it was hardly surprising that as a teenager, Jodi-Beth started hanging around with the same sorts of crowds, eventually meeting a guy. This isn't a love story. This was as far from her parents' story as you can get. Jodi met a guy who... didn't even seem to like her... He liked control, he liked the way she took care of him... Even Jodi would tell you it was unlikely he ever even liked her. But she loved him. It was why she put up with it when she knew she shouldn't. She put up with how he treated her because she was too scared to leave. That was until she was almost eight months pregnant and her mother noticed. She practically locked her daughter away to keep her safe. She wasn't brave enough to tell her mother what she'd already dealt with through her pregnancy. 5 weeks early, Jodi gave birth to Yasmin, this beautifully tiny thing that terrified her mother. Jodi wasn't parent material, if it hadn't been for her mother, Yasmin wouldn't have really had anyone. Jodi did her best to try for a while, but every time she screwed up it was met with outrage from her mother, so eventually she stopped trying. For the first 2 years of her life, Yasmin's legal guardian was her grandmother, and every time she got angry or upset, she went back to what she knew to make her feel better. Drink and drugs... Oh and Tyrone. Four years later and she might seem like she's grown up and you could never accuse her of not loving her little girl.... she's just... a screw up. Plain and simple. A messed up little girl with an inability to walk away from what isn't good for her.
