A BRIEF CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
Dylan is mostly, laid back and fun loving. He loves life, or at least, that’s how it would appear, but this is vastly helped by the happy pills he carries around in his pocket. Yay drugs! Not that anyone knows about his little drug habit, he’s covert in the taking, hiding out in bathrooms when he does so, and keeps them in a tick tack box rather than the tell tale little orange canisters given to him at the pharmacy.
Dylan had a rough childhood, to say the least. His mother was schizophrenic, and his father had paranoid delusions brought on the by the crystal meth he took whenever he could get his hands on it. As a baby, his needs were always put after his mothers medication and his father’s drug habit, and to be perfectly honest, it was only the facade of the happy family that ever stopped social services from taking him away. His mother, when on the medication, was deemed healthy. His father could pass as mechanic, covered in grime, when he wasn’t high.
Things however, truly came to a head when his father convinced his mother that the drugs she was taking, the dopamine substitutes, were being used to control her. His mother stopped taking them, and by the time Dylan was five, both hi parents spent much of their time in paranoid delusions. And then, the delusions began to focus on him.
Convinced that their son was evil, was possessed by the devil, Dylans parents decided that the eternal sleep of death was better for their child than the waking pain of being the devils right hand. That night, they took Dylan for a bath, and taking a wrists each, the sliced through his skin with razor blades, and left their son to die.
But no five year old will simply lie down and die. Dylan was in pain, and with pain came tears, and screaming, and through the thin walls of their house, the neighbours heard, and came to investigate. Dylan remembered nothing of the following hours, waking in a hospital children’s ward with bandages thicker than his arms wrapped around his wrists. Dylan didn’t see his parents again, and moved in instead with his begrudging aunt, who saw the boy as nothing more than a burden. It was many years later, after receiving alter from his now drug free father, that he discovered both of his parents were serving life sentences, one in a high security prison, the other in a padded cell of a mental hospital.
After being diagnosed with depression at 13, Dylan no longer finds that he needs to take his pills so much. He dropped out of uni last year after bullies destroyed his work, and now finds himself a somewhat successful party planner, and has started designing again on the side. But the biggest twist in this tale? Dylan is dating one of the very bullies that used to send him home with a black eye.
